chick peas

I've read all sorts of opinions on the merits of chick peas. I have breast cancer and was told by hospitals that chickpeas were good etc. My experience is the exact opposite. If I eat a can over 2 days I can guarantee having breast pain. It doesn't take a sackful, just a canful. This indicates to me increased oestrogen and I now avoid like the plague. I can't take Arimidex etc so get the full effect. Other beans don't seem as bad so I stick to peas.

I avoid anything in a can due to the effects of BPH.  I simply cook a large batch of dried beans and put part in the freezer.  Chick peas don't bother me, but if you have a concern, you are right to avoid them.

Have you tried them in a jar or natural ones you cook yourself?

Almost anything in a can is not healthy for us due to BPAs used to prevent corrosion.  There are a few brands, such as Eden Organics, that disclose what their cans are made of on their website.  Most of Eden's cans are BPA free.

I purchase frozen cooked chickpeas because I just don't have time to soak!!  :)

I buy a packet of dried chick peas, soak them overnight and cook them. Just use a large bowl and a lot of water for soaking, because they swell up to 4 times their size. After cooking them, I use some to make a salad, or hummus, and freeze the rest in Ziploc bags with some of the cooking liquid. It tastes way better than the canned stuff,  and is really very easy to prepare.

I avoid chickpeas as they are phytoestrogens and I try to stay away from them the best that I can just as I do soy.

Canned beans have way too much sodium for me, that's why I use dried. Perhaps the breast pain was due to water retention?

Last night I ate almost the whole container of homemade hummus from a local Lebanese restaurant.  I'm on Arimidex now and only have one breast.  Anyway, I had SEVERE breast pain.  I won't be eating hummus again at least not that much all at once.  The only other foods that have given me this breast pain are peanuts.

It is all way to estrogenic for me.  I can feel it within an hour or so.
