2 wk post mx new pain like sunburn
Just started having skin sensitivity over chest that is like a sunburn. Wondering if my cut nerves have woken from their slumber and are mad. Anyone else have this and does it go away?

I had problems where it felt weird, almost like novacaine wearing off after going to the dentist. It was sensitive and burny when clothing touched it, but was numb when I touched it with my hand. Think it's just nerves regenerating and it will take some time to go away. It's not as bad for me now, I'm about 4 weeks ahead of you fo recovery.

I felt that same burning-type feeling all throughout my chest and the underside of my right arm after my BMX and ALND! It does go away....but it did take some time. If I recall correctly, I slept with an ice pack in between my new foobs at night....that was the only thing that that eased that burning pain. I remember telling my PS about the ice pack and he recommended that I not do that, but it was the only thing that kept me comfortable. ALl the best to you. It does get better, but it takes several weeks...hang in there!

Thank you!

I had the burning sensation under my arm, to the elbow. It took two years, but it went away.

2 years? Ugh.

I'm having same excruciating burning- so nervous it will last years! Anyone have the pain relieved sooner? And when? I'm going insane, I can't even put a shirt on

I had something similar. My physical therapist had me take a textured towel and rub it over the part giving me trouble a few times a day. The thought was that it would kind of work to "deprogram" the nerves and get them used to every day sensations. Drove me nuts, but seemed to work over a period of time. Worth a try.

Maybe I'll try the towel thing on one side and see if there is a difference over time between the two. Or maybe massage one.

Mine definitely didnt last two years. I think its safe to say that it lasted three months, but it wasn't excruciating that entire time. By three months post-op, the burning was a minor discomfort......

I've had some type of burning since 2008 after my bilateral mastectomy. It does get better with time. What we have is called allodynia. Google it. Yes it is caused by nerve damage of intercostal brachial nerves. I know all of this because I've spent years researching and going to different drs and pain clinics. I didn't get much help from my surgeon as he was one who caused it. Gabapentin (neurontin) is the only med that worked for me and also myofacial release done by PT. I do hope this info helps you. I don't want anyone else to suffer like I had to not knowing was awful. Maggi

16 days since bilateral and I have it....sucks!!!! Hope it goes away quickly. Any words of encouragement?

aweate- words of encouragement: one day at a time. Words to help: pick up some vagisil cream at the drugstore or Walmart. Apply to the affected areas as needed. Be sure to avoid any still healing incision lines. Vagisil active ingredient is benzocaine which will numb the pain. The other ingredients in it are skin soothers for irritated skin. Works like a charm! (Be sure to wash your hands well after application!)
