Hi I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I am a 5 year breast cancer survivor. I worry constantly about my family's health ever since my diagnosis. Anyway my son found a small lump in his breast near his nipple 4 months ago. It has not gotten any bigger, no discharge, dimpling, etc. Anyway today he went to the Dr about it and the Dr is sending him to a surgeon for a biopsy. I'm freaking out. its dejavu all over again. What are the chances this is cancer? What are some other kinds of breast lumps that men can get? I'm pretty sure this isn't fluid filled. are there benign breast lumps that can present as hard or firm in men. I would appreciate any feed back you can offer. thanks!

I don't want to worry you, but if they are sending him for a biposy, they are probably thinking cancer.  The good news is that young men usually catch the cancer very early and it is very treatable.   I am wondering if you had the genetic test done?

21 year old men (and teenage boys) with breast lumps are almost always hormonal and benign. It's called gynecomastia, and will resolve. He needs an ultrasound, not a biopsy. Hopefully the surgeon will know that...if the U/S is suspicious, then a biopsy.  This is common!!

Kdholt, I don't know anything about this but I can imagine how worried you are. I'd be a wreck. Just wanted you to know I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this turns out to be nothing to worry about. Hugs.

My brother had a suspicious lump near his nipple around age 18 I believe. Doctor performed a physical exam and ultrasound and it turned out to be gynecomastia, not BC. Doctor said it was very unlikely to be BC and he was right. As another poster mentioned, a biopsy seems a little extreme as the first course of action unless you carry the BRCA gene which could drastically increase the risk of your children getting cancer. I wouldn't get too worked up about it yet as it is likely just a small benign mass that will resolve itself.
