G-sleeve or sharpie??

Reading some of the threads about ignorant health professionals and LE. I have an upcoming surgery in a month. What do you ladies recommend? Getting a g-sleeve to put on during surgery or writing "NO needles/BP/IV" on the affected arm with a sharpie? What is my best option for this? I am already being seen at a lymphedema clinic regularly and definitely do not want to make my situation worse. Frustrated and a bit scared that patients are being ignored when it comes to this. (I remember being handed a folder at time of BMX with LE info in it, but being told by the nurse handing it to me "not to worry about it as I wouldn't have that problem anyway". Ugh! Lying nurse.

    Hello, BB,

    Why not both? I always write on my arm, no matter what I then cover it with, because there's no telling who might remove what while you're asleep. And for good measure, have your surgeon write it in the orders as well. Hopefully you'll find all this concern was for nothing, and whoever takes care of you will be aware and respectful. But going into it prepared does help you to be more relaxed.

    There's a good possibility that "lying nurse" would be horrified if she was ever to be taught the truth--they just don't know. All best to you for your up-coming surgery! Please do let us know how it goes for you.

    Some times the best answer is the one right below our noses that we don't see ourselves! Never even thought of doing both! Thank you Binney! Great idea!
