Arnica pre and post surgery?

Options

Has anyone used both the homeopathic pills and/or the gel to reduce swelling and bruising pre- and post BC surgery? Any success if you have?

    Claireinaz,

My BS had me take arnica montana pills before my lumpectomy and mastectomy.  I had a very uneventful healing process from both surgeries.  Hope this helps.

I heard good things about arnica. My surgery was Monday, and I've been taking 3000 mg. of Vitamin C and 300 mg. of zinc. Both are supposed to be great for wound healing. Maybe you can take all three. Good luck!

GlobalGirly,  Vitamin C and Zinc are great for wound healing.  The arnica helps with the swelling and bruising.  I took Vitamin C, too.  There is no reason not to take all three unless the doctor says no.  I've taken arnica pellets and used the cream when I bumped my knee on the bed frame.  It seemed to be helpful.  Hope you are having a boring recovery from surgery.  Best wishes.

Hee hee. Thanks! Uneventful recovery so far.  Watching Long Island Medium and will probably take a nap soon. I love the quote in your signature line.

GlobalGirly-I took arnica after lumpectomy. I was put on a whole regimen for healing, and I've healed up good. I certainly don't think there would be any harm. Take care.

Thanks pattithenurse! I think I will look into it. The area is still sore. Maybe it will help with that. Smile

I took arnica homeopathic tablets around the time of mastectomy, and bellis perennis too. They were prescribed by my homeopathis doctor, and my surgeon said they were ok to take (I don't think he actually believes in homeopathy!!!). Anyway, I had no bruising and uneventful healing.

When I had my lumpectomy, prior to the mastectomy, I didn't use homeopathy and the bruising was terrible. Plus I never healed properly. Coincidence? I don't know. I'm just glad I took the arnica second time around :)

My BS was the one who had me take the arnica. I was glad she is accepting of alternative treatments

My naturopath suggested I use arnica pellets-either 30c or 200c-3 days before surgery and as soon as possible after surgery. She also sugested using phosphorous pellets (30c) during the same time to also help minimize bruising, bleeding and trauma.

Both my BS and my PS said I healed very quickly. I am now getting ready to do the same routine in a couple weeks when I go in for my exchange surgery.

Hi all, thanks for all the postings to my question... I had my nipple sparing procedure yesterday in prep for my bmx next week. My PS gave me an entire box of arnica caps to take when I left the office yesterday post-surgery.  I was already taking the boiron pellets and bromelaine, so I hope I'll see little to no brusing and quick healing, although I'll need them again on the 3rd (my bmx/immediate recon).

My PS believes in arnica and gives it to all his patients.

I had a lumpectomy and node biopsy about two weeks ago. I happened to be in the health food store just a few days ago and saw Arnica pellets for sale and decided to try them to reduce swelling under my armpit. I don't know if it's just time or the Arnica or both but I woke up this morning with significanly less swelling and pain. This is after about 4 days of taking it. I think it's worth giving it a shot. It seems to have worked for me.

I use the Arnica gel for yrs.for my sciatica pain...it works like a charm.

Yesterday after reading all you posts I thought I would try it on my breast that was really hurting. It worked..

The other day I fell and hurt my knees...couldn't put any clothes that had no stretch to it cause of the pain..tried it on both knees...magic..it was better.

    Yay for Arnica....

    Thanks for starting this thread...

A5/35 makes a cheaper arnica oitment that you'll find elsewhere with same %. Although it didn't work for me (either this one or healthfood store one) others have had success.

Hey I just want to throw out there for the nerve healing I used hypericom it literally saved my life. No amount of vicodin was enough and they had to double dose me for everything in recovery and I kept on my docs cause so painful. So after I left the unhelpful docs, they can only really do surgery... Not pain. I went to a remedy shop and nothing did anything except hypericom so yes really great, for me I have to take a remedy every hour for the first few hours and few days after for the cure to stick.

After reading all this decided to take arnica cause super itchy and a little bruised there still, but at least my nerves settled that were chopped during surgery.

Glad to hear that surgeons are recommending it. Just to be safe, I think it makes sense to tell your doc before the surgery--I was given a long list of drugs to avoid ten days prior to surgery, including some that surprised me, like Vit E supplements. I don't completely understand how arnica works, but according to a Dr. Oz website, it dialates the capillaries, so it seems good to get the cleared prior to surgery. But it sound like it's ok'd by many docs but just an FYI. Thanks for the tip.

Peggy, I got the same list but that's cause they used a special knife and all. Homeopathy microscopically has nothing in it except the sugar and lactose, but is memory water. And the more diluted the stronger it is and the farther back it can heal like 200c or 6x heals yesterdays wounds and 1M or 10M heals 20-60 years ago, plus there's a lot of schools of thought. Point being that don't really care how it works as long as it works.

Arnica is for broken bones and bruising. Hypericum is for nerves. So they both should help after surgery of breast.

    Good luck and feel better.
