Hey Peggy! I didn't ask her yet but will be sure to and let you know. I'm heading into surgery today (outpatient) stage 2 for the DIEP so you might not hear from me in a day or two. :p

Peggy - Put me as a tentative for the 13th.  I am thinking I can make it, but have some kid schedules to work out first :) I am in PW county as well, though on the eastern side near Quantico.

Cuetang - Good luck today!  I am scheduled for my Stage 2 (implants) on Wednesday.

hey everyone. i have a biopsy scheduled on Monday and I'm pretty anxious. I went this past Monday to have a mammogram not giving it a second thought, was called back and had another one yesterday with an ultrasound and had a biopsy scheduled for Monday. So in one week I've gone from having not one single thought of any problems to being scared to death.

apparently my mass is about 1 cm. I was taking some comfort in the fact that it is a small mass but I've noticed many masectomies for women with small masses...

the terminology alone is overwhelming to me. i'm trying not to descend too far into the rabbit hole of anxiety yet since I won't know anything for another week or more but it seems like I'll have an abundance of decisions to make.  my primary dr (my gen practitioner who wrote my order) has referred me to virginia hospital breast center if my results aren't negative and I have Dr. Sebastian's name. Has anyone used her/them? i asked the radiologist yesterday if the mass had characteristics of malignant masses and she said yes (rough edges, etc) but they had been wrong many times.

Relocatedtarheel-- sorry you're going through this scare and glad you found us. Please realize a vast majority of lumps and masses are benign, so hang in there. It's not cancer unless the doctor/biopsy tells you so! (Hugs)

I didn't go to virginia hospital center (I did my stuff at inova fairfax). I've heard of good things about Stephanie Akbari at virginia hospital center. Hopefully someone who used Dr. Sebastian can chime in later.

Relocated Tarheel, many of us had a routine mammogram and ended up with a biopsy. I hope you don't have to join our club. If you do, getting all you docs under the same roof has a lot of advantages. Breast Center doctors tend to communicate with one another more. Virginia Hospital Center is small, which can also be a plus. Don't be hesitant to get second opinions about your treatment plan. Any good doc will be fine with this.

Try to distract yourself this weekend. I'm hoping that Monday will show it's all a false alarm--benign as Cuetang said.

We're here all the time so if you get too anxious over the weekend, post again and feel free to personal message me.

    Hugs,

    Peggy

PS, let us know how Monday goes if you want to

Dear Relocated: I join the others in saying sorry to have you here. I went for a second op at Virginia Hospital Center. I couldn't get in with Sebastian and saw one of the other doctors. I ultimately did not choose her for various reasons. I would go with them if you can get Sebastian. Please note that I do not think that all doctors are under one roof there. I believe that the oncology practice is separate. Previous discussions here among these ladies has led to inconclusive on anyone to recommend in oncology in Northern Virginia. I also did not like the Inova system. At the time, I blamed their radiology for missing my tumor on mammogram--7 cm. 8 months after a benign mammo--but I now realize that I had a sneaky form, ILC. That distrust plus having them send me out of the mammo and ultrasound without any clear path forward (don't call us, we'll call you) led me to call Georgetown University Hospital. I was biopsied there and subsequently did all my treatment there except radiation, which I did at Inova Fairfax for convenience.

I cannot praise more highly my treatment at Georgetown. I highly recommend my onc there, Dr. Robert Warren. My surgeon, Dr. Elizabeth Feldman, is now in a practice associated with Reston Hospital. I also recommend her highly. I think anyone they would have there would be an excellent choice.

Relocated, just read Mary's response. She knows more about VA Hospital Center than I do. Also I've heard from others that Georgetown University is great.

Relocated, sorry you are going through this wait and see. Good wishes for good results tomorrow. You mentioned that you saw many on the boards that had mastectomy (MX) . If the lump or lesion is larger than a certain cm the usual recommendation is a MX. If not large, a lumpectomy is the way to go. To early for this info.

Cuetang - how did you surgery Go?

So I'm waiting on the results if my core biopsy...I should hear today, which is ironically my birthday. The radiologist already prepared me...apparently my tumor/mass is 'ugly'...spider looking. I've cried all week long. From all I read, the surgery doesn't sound nearly as bad as the chemo. I don't know if I want to go through it.

    Hi relocated,

Side effects of chemo vary so much from person to person. Many who post here, like me, have had trouble with side effects while others seem to get thru with minimal side effects or very short lived ones. Some of these women are too busy working full time with family responsibilities to post. I know some of the women. Their main side effect is fatigue.

Chemo is one of the best cancer fighting tools we now have. You could be one of the lucky ones and I really hope that you are. You won't know until you start chemo how your body will respond.

I'm hoping your results and treatment plan are coming ASAP so you can be free of this anxiety-high waiting phase.

    Hugs,

    Peggy

Been lurking here for a while. I kept wanting to make it to one of the lunches but the timing was hard with two kids and sports schedules.

I finished chemo in May and had surgery last week. Rads to follow.

Relocated - pm me - I live right around the corner from you. Once I get these drains out we could get together. Chemo is totally doable I promise! :)

    McCatherine,

Totally understand about the lunches. You can always wait until last minute and we can expand the reservation if possible. Next lunch is a week from this Saturday at 12:30 in Reston. More details to follow when I catch my breath (and my mind).

    Hugs,

    Peggy

relocatedtarheel  - hoping that you don't have to join this club.  Please let us know how the biopsy went.

I am recuperating from my exchange surgery...was very easy. However, I am not happy with the results thus far...I have been posting on the Exchange board.  Long story short they are not even at all.  "They" look like two totally different foobs.  I know it is early, but from what I read the Natrelle 410s don't drop/move etc as much as others.  They also still feel like bricks.  Is it too late to do something with my own tissue vs implants?  I will wait it out of course and hope for the best.  I feel bad complaining sometimes.

Anyway, as life would have it, I can't make it on Saturday :(  I am bummed, but have way too much going on with the kids.  I guess I will shoot for another month.

Fredntan - I am...live right by the gate to Quantico :)  It is a drive for us to get all the way out to Reston, especially with the traffic on the weekends.  I wonder if we can do a lunch closer to Potomac Mills one day.

Hi, I'll talk with those who show up for lunch this Saturday and see if near Potomac Mills is an option for one of the next lunches.

Someone will post back here about this. Summer is crazy. Fall should be more stable.

I just got my biopsy results and as I feared, it wasn't good. Can I come to the luncheon on Saturday? I have my appt with the dr tomorrow and should be over the hysterical crying by then.
