So...whats for dinner?

The sourdough starter is ready to work. It's sourdough bread time....
-
Carrie, you should go out on the lake tonight or tomorrow for the super moon.
-
Fruit in the cocktail form? Carberry, laughing. Eric I am jealous of your starter. I vote for Eric for Man of the Year.
I have had a very bad week. I had an endo biopsy that was the worst pain of my life. Trying to play it off, but I feel like a caged animal. Woke up this morning at five a.m., crying. Results in two weeks, but I hardly care about that. The GYN said it was going to be uncomfortable, and I got blindsided. Involuntary screaming. And then she said she was going to walk out, and I would have to make another appt and start over, if I couldn't stop myself. So I bit down on a twisted piece of kleenex. Sorry, Eric, for TMI.
Haven't eaten anything since. Dinner tonight: a beer. That is carbs, right? Don't know what I can do about this. Have to have these biopsies going forward whenever they are indicated.
-
Oh bobo, I'm so sorry, that is awful. You deserve more than a beer. (((bobo)))
-
Bobo- That is awful! Throw in a percocet with that beer! I am so sorry you had such a painful experience. Please be gentle on yourself and take it easy. Also, I LMAO at your previous post of the hulk baby and the destruction. I am right there with you!
Carrie- I agree with Nancy, you should hit the lake for the super moon. I love your stories of boat rides. MAkes me miss ours. One day again soon we will get another one.
Busy day today. We got stuff done this morning and then took the boys to play their first round of mini golf. It was SO hot. We all had a great time and DS1 actually got a hole in 1! We all came home to the a/c and went to our own corners and cooled off. I honestly felt sick from the heat. So after a while we all felt better and hydrated and hit the pool, did some yard work etc. I am ready for bed but the Bruins are on and we have neighbors coming over to watch the game with us. Boys are about to go to bed.
Dinner tonight was chicken kabobs with zucchini, onion and mushrooms, some rice and an awesome salad. I had thirds on the salad as I was just in the mood for it.
Carol- I hope you get to play a little more golf and am glad your SIL is doing better. Enjoy the night- I have been thinking of you in your camper!
-
Oh, Bobo, feeling your pain! You certainly don't deserve or need that, ever! I thought physicians were supposed to be caring and compassionate! Geeze!
So hot around here lately, hate to make dinner or cook (A/C causes lymph pain so I turn it on only under dire circumstances). Made tacos Wednesday night with seasoned chicken and leftover steak from precious night one night, used the leftover chicken for taco salads another night, DD came home Thursday night so made her the char Sui pork she likes with ramen and steamed veggies. Went walking around a lake today with some friends, when I got home, my "D"H "cleaned" out the fridge - every bit of leftovers in their containers sitting on the counter (even the leftover pork I made last night AND the homemade tiramisu my daughter brought home for me yesterday that her friend's mom made yesterday. WTH? So looking forward to eating it today after i got home, just because he doesn't like coffee or cheese doesn't mean it's ready for the trash!). He didn't throw anything out, didn't wash anything, just left a huge mess. Good thing he had done it just before I got home, things were still cold. Not wasting the dessert! Think I'm leaving the mess for him to do tomorrow..... -
Bobo That is NOT ok to be treated like that!! If they know that the procedure is painful or stressful, there are things they can do for either case...drugs! WTH? Maybe get another Dr. I am so sorry you had to endure that. Sometimes I am so ashamed of being part of the medical profession....seeing things from the patient side. Praying for good results for you.
In all of our silliness...we decided last night (on the boat) that we would tie all of our boat lines together and lassoo the moon! It was beautiful.
Catered pull pork from the Dinasaur rest was amazing. Having a family picnic today and my brother is bringing the leftovers. Yum I am bringing a pasta salad. Was gonna do deviled eggs, but not feeling the love of peeling alot of eggs.
-
Bobo. It can't fix what's already happened to you, but I would certainly tell the doctor how unhappy you are...It won't help you this time, but it might help next time and help others as well.
30 years ago, my complaint to a doctor about Mickey's care, in loudly delivered blunt and earthy terms gave the hospital security staff something to do...but it did get the problem resolved. I can still remember the doctor's face turning white and the nurse...smiling...
2nd, had the stuff been left on the counter here...the yellow lab would have left the counters completely spotless..... For what it's worth, her (yellow lab) food preferences, in order of preference are people food, cat food, pre-digested cat food and dog food.
-
Very heavy buffet lunch today so dinner tonight is a Spanish tortilla and salad.
Eric, sounds so like my dogs lol! -
Eric... Thanks for my laugh today! Your dog would love my hubby. I have a similar story. We had 3 cats not too long ago. My fav one (passed away in Feb), would sit by my kitchen window, furthest from food prep so she could be near me and watch the other two. NEVER begged, walked to another counter or swiped food, only ate what was in her dish or from my hand. Great cat! After steak dinner last week, a bit left on a plate, hubby said he'd do dishes but didn't happen. Couple hours later there was something funny by back slider, looked like dead something. Turns out our thief cat must have gotten up on the counter (we didn't see her), stole the small piece of steak and somehow it ended up by the back door! I love doing dishes right after eating......
-
About 5 more minutes and the sourdough loaves will be coming out of the oven....
Eric
-
Yummmmmm. Standing in line Eric! What do you do about sour dough starter? I love sour dough, no one else here does.... Hope the dogs stay away
-
Still in Jersey, watching a gorgeous sunset, by myself ( a needed break after a chaotic houseful of DDILs relatives) on one of their decks by the pool.
Was hot here today, but delightfully cooler now....and amazingly, no bugs! DH and I escaped into Manhattan this afternoon to see "Once". I loved the movie, and the music did not disappoint today.
Times Square felt not much different from the constant overstimulation in this house!
Well, maybe a slight exaggeration.
Here there is no naked eighty year old cowgirl with pasties! We have decided, however, that our 2 year old DGS might try out for the Naked Cowboy role since he has a current penchant for running around au natural.
Friday night's "birthday" dinner ended up being at a place that was like a tribute to James Gandolfini's longest role, if you get my drift. Then DS2 ended up arriving from doing a major emergency surgery just as his cioippino (sp?) arrived at the table....very efficient! I had a sea bass dish with various hot peppers on it. The panna cotta dessert was to die for!
Last night we had local pizza that was delish....thin crust with mushroom and onions.
Then sadly watched the Bruins lose game five (once I figured out how to turn on DS2s complicated TV). Oh well....Monday is another chance!
BoBo I would like to yell at your doc....then fire her! Hope you are recovering from the trauma....
Eric, I would be tempted by your bread if I didn't eat the biggest and best bagel in the world this AM! Lordy....I get off this carb train tomorrow!
Today I did make a white gazpacho soup for DDILs' relatives. The recipe (modified), from the Sweet Life Cafe (martha's vineyard) restaurant was easy....if I did not have three unsolicited volunteers "helping" me make it...I am so independent in my cooking style, that this was hard. But it turned out fine.
Checking out that gorgeous moon again tonight. Love your boating friends's fantasy, Carrie! Can't wait to get to our lake later this week....
Loved the pet/counter stories....reminding me of another good reason why we won't get another pooch. Of course, now that DGS has been inventive about getting up to the counters, nothing is safe here anyway...minus the counter surfing dog they gave to my sister.
Nite all...... -
My next door neighbors, when I was going to college, gave me some of their starter from St. Louis. When I got married and moved, I used chlorinated tap water by mistake and killed it.
I managed to get another one going....put flour & water in a bowl, cover it with cheese cloth, put it outside and hope....It took something like 8 tries to get something going, The starter is 24 years old.
A sourdough group had a posting about using grapes to make a starter and as luck would have it, I have a grape vine shading the back porch. I pulled some grapes off, smashed them, added a tiny bit of water, a pinch of sugar and covered it up to sit in a warm place. It's starting to get a bit of froth (wine?), so tonight I'm going to strain out the solid stuff, add a bit of flour & water to the liquid and watch what happens.
Between mom, my brother & sister-in-law (they're living in China for the moment, but are here for a couple of days), Sharon and DD, both loaves were eaten up....and the dogs were very disappointed...
I believe that starter can be dried, shipped and "re-sprouted". If anyone would like to try this, PM me with your address. The next time I feed the starter, instead of discarding the excess, I'll dry some and mail it out. I can't guarantee it will work, but...I'm willing to give it a try.

Cooked all weekend. I decided that I wanted to make some Indian food for Sunday dinner, so started on Saturday by marinating a deboned leg of lamb in yogurt, onion, garlic, serrano chile, coriander, cumin, cardamom and salt. When baking on Sunday I added cinnamon stick, peppercorns and cloves. Very delicious. I also made palaak paneer and coconut rice. In addition I made enough vegetables (green beens, peppers, broccolette, asparagus and onions) to last a week of healthy eating!
-
Such a busy weekend with people coming and going from the house. Also we got a round of mini golf in as well, it was so HOT! DS 1 got a hole in 1! We had left overs last night- everyone had something different. I had the left over raviolis with salad.
Today we had friends over for pool time and spent most of the day outside in the intense heat. We came in and enjoyed the a/c for a few hours after they left and headed back out for the afternoon. A big storm just came through so we are back inside. Dinner tonight is pork chops and apple sauce, corn and egg noodles. A childs delight!
Bobo hope you are feeling better.
Lacey- See you on facebook while we watch the game tonight!
Carrie- Love the image of lassooing the moon.
-
Laurie, we're on the same wave length. Tonight is pork chops on the grill, applesauce, pasta salad and sauteed spinach with garlic and cream.
-
Sauted spinach with garlic and cream--yum!
We're back on the road after spending Thurs. thru Sun. at the home of SIL and BIL in Decatur, IL. Had a great hamburger for lunch at a little family restaurant along Hwy 39 North. Tonight's simple home-cooked meal will be pasta with tomato sauce and Italian sausage and a tossed salad with some crumbled blue cheese and vinaigrette. A few slices of Eric's home-made bread would be nice!
It's nice to be back in our little rv home after days of socializing.
-
ERIC, that bread sounds so good.
All the grilling sounds so good. I don't fire up the grill just for me, though. Next time my husband is home. I'll have him put on steaks and brats and hamburger so I can freeze them , well, not the steaks. We'll eat those right off the grill. Of course, if he goes on lake Michigan and gets a fresh salmon, we will grill that too.
Today I had salmon, rice and sugar snap peas. Yum. Of course I didn't make it. Went to Highland House. They have amazing food. -
Off subject, we went to bed before the hockey game was over but learned this morning that Chicago won. All the IL relatives were ecstatic. They stayed up until the game was over. From the periods we watched, dh and I agreed that Boston looked like the better team, controlling the play, but apparently they didn't score.
Being from the deep south, I've never been an ice hockey fan and find the action too fast to follow on tv. It's probably easier at the rink.
-
Many thanks everyone for your good wishes. Biopsy negative -- no endometrial c. Great news! Still recovering from biopsy itself. Laurie, percocet sounds like a good idea for next time. I am going to have to do one of these every time I have spotting. Since I am 43, I suspect I will have some spotting.
It's been great to follow what you guys are up to -- especially traveling RV people. DLLP does NOT want to get an RV. I have always wanted to build my own container house! I believe she is nixing that idea as well. But... she is suggestible, so I have hope.
You guys, I am a little shattered by that test last week. Obviously great results. But I can't think straight, still. Liquid diet. Laurie, not sure if you have ever had this feeling with your two -- doing a great job mothering, my best job, reading books, making great dinners for them, and then hiding in bathroom when DLLP comes home. Not crying, really. Just hiding.
-
Bobogirl I am SO sorry you have been through this. Yay for the results though but geez.
You are strong to put on a brave face for the kids. We all break down sometimes, especially after playing the "nothing wrong here" game all day, You deserve your alone time to reboot.
Since we often talk about using our cancer card on the retail therapy thread, can you use yours to talk your partner into the Rv or container house??? No time like the present.....I also dream about little houses in the back yard. I hear 'ya.
Hang in there and I hope you are back to yummy dinners soon. I had a green smoothie for dinner if it makes you feel any better. Healthy, but lassagna would have been better.
((((((hugs)))))) -
Bobo I am so traumatized that you were so traumatized...I agree with what Eric said...maybe a formal complaint so that this does not happen to anyone else. For whatever reason, me getting the tatoos for my radiation traumatized me and I cried all day over it. They were just very insensitive...6 people staring at me naked...talking like I wasnt there...stabbing me with a needle without a pre-warning...manipulating my body in ways it didnt want to go...on and on. Cried all the way home.
Did a crockpot meal of sausage and peppers and onions in marinara sauce. Hubby ate it on roll, me just plain with pasta salad.
in spite of the heat, everyone sounds like they are cooking up a storm! Meals sound great....wish I wa a more adventurous cook.
-
Bobo my girl, you deserve a break today. Take it where you can find it. And kiss that doc goodbye.
DH has requested spaghetti and meatballs tonight. Fortunately I have sauce frozen so that's half the work done. I worked in the flower bed this morning and got overheated (high humidity mostly) so now I'm feeling kind of wiped out. A gallon of ice water and a cool shower will revive me hopefully. I had intended to wash the car but I think that's off of today's agenda now. -
Carberry, I totally 'feel' your story about the tattoo! All of it. Funny how those things can affect you. And then if results are okay people expect you to just immediately get past whatever happened. In fact, some people expect that even when results are not okay..

Difficult to lodge complaint without looking like hysterical c patient (or drug seeker). In fact, the V I took that morning -- .5 -- was my first V ever!
Scienceg, good thought about the card. I want a container house badly! Green smoothie for me as well. For someone who can't swallow, I'm doing pretty well: coffee, smoothies, watermelon, berries, etc. XXX
-
Nancy -- drive through car wash!
-
Laurie, for your amusement...
Here is a picture of the hulk baby this year at Halloween. She is my darling.
-
Bobo- I hide too! Don't feel bad about needing a minute to yourself. I hide when DH first gets home- I just go to my room and lay in my bed and shut the door for about 10 minutes. Then I do it again after dinner is done and cleaned up and the kids have been bathed. While DH watches the last cartoon with them I play candy crush saga in my room. Then I do books , teeth, rub backs etc. I get sick of hearing the word mommy all day. Not to mention mine fight a lot. They play well a lot too- but I can't stand the fighting! The other day DS1 asked me why it takes so long for me to go to the bathroom, lol!!!! CAUSE I NEED A BREAK FOR A MINUTE!!!!! Also, on camping. I did not want a camper. DH convinced me 3 years ago to get a cheap one (with a bathroom) and try it. I loved it and we upgraded this year. I never would have thought I would like it. But if you do it right you have all the comforts of home. It is cozy and the kids have a blast and go to bed exxhausted! Don't give up on trying to get one!
My tummy has been off all day. Tonight's dinner I think will be turkey burgers.
Hockey- I was very disappointed that the Bruins lost. But there is always next year. I think everyone was stunned at the results of the game last night. Carol- It is easier to watch hockey in person. I grew up playing hockey and watching my brother play so I get pretty into it. It was fun this year that DS1 got really into it too.
-
Tell the doctor, "quit yelling or I'll leave" is not a suitable response to, "THAT HURTS REALLY BAD!", that you expected better and ask "Why did you do that?"
-
Bobo, I asked my DDIL (a gyn surgeon who we were visiting this weekend)about ways one can experience that procedure in a more "humane" way. She said that while many women have it in the office with tolerable pain, some need to have anesthesia and she performs those procedures in the OR. You might want to push for that next time.
Tonight we (actually, DH ;)grilled rosemary-balsamic marinated lamb kebabs with red and yellow peppers and onion...along with "go to" cuke salad with scallions and oregano. Boy was that lamb delish! Totally satisfying no carb meal.....we had way too many carbs while visiting in NJ....and very little exercise! Need to get back on track!
Yes, sad for the Bruins, but Chicago clearly had the strongest show this season. I am new to following hockey, thanks to the Celtics bagging out of the playoffs so early...I needed another fast spectator sport before succumbing to the slow pace of baseball.....and hockey is so unbelievably fast! Wow! You don't even have time to sneeze! I did get used to it, but not sure I could follow the puck in the Garden. I marvel at the strength of the players. DS2 warned me that I am better off watching from home, anyway, given some of the over exuberant fans at the Bruins' games (like my father used to be....which turned me off to hockey for all these years!). So I will happily watch at home next season, too.
Mothering ladies, it has been many years since I felt the need to hide, but re-experienced that this past weekend at DS1's home...with the babies' constant needs and adults' (the live-in grandparents) constant chatter....guess I am getting really old and oriented to a quiet home life! I think it would have been a bit easier with just us and the babies, but who knows.....I think the operative word is the "constancy" of it all. Everyone needs a bit of quiet, private space for their sensory systems to "re-boot". Bathrooms can provide a lovely multi- purpose spot.
