April 28, 2006 was a Friday night - I'd just arrived home from work & my 2-year-old mini-poodle was with me as I clutched the phone & listened to the word "carcinoma" (my husband was unfortunately just a leeetle bit late that night). He got there minutes later so I could shove the phone into his hand and grip his shirt so tight I thought it would rip! Little did I know that I would survive long enough to not only outlive our precious poodle (we lost him this Christmas to kidney failure), but also to fall back into many of the same routines I was locked into before this ever happened. I do realize (every day) that a recurrence can still hit me at any time, but if I help even one newbie by showing that - even with scary stats like mine - life CAN go on, I will feel that my survival has a purpose.
I live for writing these yearly posts, and reading similar posts from others. Long may we thrive!

Thanks so much for checking in. So sorry about your poodle. I swear that one of the things that kept me going through treatment was that my poor dog would be sad if I died, so I had to do my best to outlive him
-
Julie, congratulations on your milestone - and thank you for sharing it with everyone!
-
Thank you...
-
Congratulations!
A wonderful thing to read this morning. I will toast you with my coffee (a little early for Merlot!)

Congrats!!! These posts really do mean so much to everybody here. I remember feeling at the beginning that it was a matter of time until recurrence not whether or not it would happen. Then I saw a post from somebody who was a long-term survivor and all the posts following it and I knew that there was hope that I would be done with this.
-
Thanks so much for coming back and posting! I think our statsl and treatment were almost identical. This gives me hope,
Wishing you many more years of happiness and health.
-
Thanks to all - and I'm toasting you right back with my bottle of water (sweetened with sugar-free almond syrup - that's the only way I can drink it!)
