Mary they were also my favourites....lol. For cheese I use sheep cheese as I'm allergic to goat but use in moderation. For milk I use almond or rice milk but I make sure they are unsweetened. I also use a lot of coconut cream and milk.

There is a whole lot of dairy free recipes online and some of the things used will surprise you........the best thing is, they are really tasty so I don't miss the dairy.

Mary, hard cheeses such as cheddar, parmesan, swiss, pepper jack, etc. have no carbs at all.  The lactose is used up during the cheese-making process.  As a diabetic, I have used them for years, as opposed to soft cheeses (cottage, cream, etc) which do have carbs.  Mozarella is kind of in the middle, with only 1g of carb.

From Rochester (WA) to Tehachapi (CA).  Haven't posted for a looooong time (2011)  but have lurked off and on. I moved to WA from NV in 2009 to help with father until he passed away at 97 April of 2012.  My son and grandson wanted me closer to them so here I am in Tehachapi with my grandson.  Nice being close to my immediate family again and I certianly enjoy all the CA sunshine after rainy Rochester.  I must have lived in So CA and NV too long (over 50 yrs) the cloudy. rainy and dreary days in WA were depressing. ( I was born in Salem Or).

I have been on Letrozole since 2008 when tumor markers shot up and 3 nodules found in rt lung.  Zometa added summer of 2009 after bone scan showed mets to spine & sternum.  Change to CA insurance and they switched from Zometa to Aredia (from 20-30 min infusion to 2 hrs).

Been doing well but last CA 27-29 went from 32 to 47 so on a "wait and see what now".  More tumor markers and PET scan Aug.  Hate waiting but should be used to it after 16 yrs!

Enjoy all the news and pictures.  Don't usually have much to say so can't say I'll do much posting.

Anyone near Tehachapi, charming historical railroad town.  I do have to go to Bakersfield for medical stuff.

Encylias it's not the carbs that are the problem in dairy but the casein .........apparently it can encourage tumour growth according to my doc.

Hi Arlil nice to see you back........you sure have been moving around and such long distances too! I agree, being close to grandchildren is the best. Wow! Sixteen years! Congrats to you, that's fabulous! Hope the new scans don't show anything new.......oh yes, the waiting is the pits!

SoCalLisa...no I-5 and 405?  58 to ? to skirt around LA? I drove to Torrance last weekend, terrible traffic.  Big fire in Lake Hughes area about the time you went through?

Chrissyb..thanks for the welcome.  Lots of moving but sister needed help with dad and we promised him he would not go to a convalescant home. Very satisfying for us keeping him comfortable and he was so grateful.

Going around LA is the best for me...it is a few more miles but worth it.

We came down I-15. We took the 405-5 North because our son lives in

San Dimas, near Covina and heading to  Carmel,  and Sonoma then King's Canyon and Sequoia..

then later we swung thru Bakersfield...

Arlil, my son did his 4th year of medical school at Kern County Hospital. Then he went to USC for residency and then stayed in Covina to practice.

Lisa, how beautiful!  Swans look so peaceful.

Tonight DD and DSIL are taking a tour of the hospital where she'll deliver in August.  Later in July they'll have a one time childbirth class, which brings back memories of Lamaze classes for me and DH.  Apparently no one does Lamaze anymore but it was surely a big help to me when I was in labor and to DH too, since it gave him something to do even if it was only counting!

Good news--Mammo today and good to go for another year!  The radiologist read it immediately and gave me a big hug.  She's the person who recommended this site to me.

    Hugs to all,

    Kathy
