Exercise - Working Back to it After or During Treatment
Comments

rozem - hi! Good to "see" you here! One thing I can tell you is that losing muscle tone and strength happened much more quickly than regaining it! I have been very frustrated that I am not rebounding very quickly at all, but that is why this thread is about baby steps!
-
I'll admit too, exercise has been the last thing on my mind these last couple of days. My house is a true disaster so I did laundry, vacuuming, washed floors on Tuesday. Cooking dinners for DH and kitchen clean up this week. At yoga yesterday, was catch-up time as we haven't met for 3 or 4 weeks. We were considering going on a hike, but so glad it was just me and she did very gentle yoga which really relaxed me. Errands in the afternoon then spent a bunch of time on the computer updating my résumé (a friends company is hiring so she's taking in my résumé while its still just company internal notification before it opens to the public). 3 hours of sleep last night so moving slowly today, some organizing around here, errands to pay bills (looking my worst so of course ran into someone I worked with years ago) and a meeting. DD just came home till Saturday, maybe we'll walk tomorrow. Tires me out just thinking of exercise - maybe I can sleep tonight!
-
Wow second just reading your day's events wore me out.
Special I need the secret of that spray I am just reaching the over sixties so I need all the help I can get.
Gritgirl my exercise today is using my finger to type this then I am off to a show. A nice slow downhill walk with a lift back .
Bye everyone Mara -
mara - me too on the spray! I just have three years and the big number 60 will be here for me!
-
Low key for me last couple of days. Seem to be having nausea and other things I think due to blood thinner (xarelto). Sure hope it's not the cancer back. Very annoying. What's a girl with a blood clot to do?
Specialk. I should have gone shopping in uncomfortable shoes. :-) -
Oh. And I agree with Mara. 2nd time's list was exhausting. Can you come to my house?
-
Hi Mara, I'm in line too. Sixty is coming pretty quickly for me too!
SpecialK, no way, you're part of the approaching 60 club! Must have been a mistake in the math!
Gritgirl, hope you're feeling better!
Laughing you think I'm busy, I have my days. When I don't posted, it's probably because not much accomplished. Like Friday, after only 3 hours of sleep, lethargic all day. Vacuumed and washed upstairs floors, that's all I got done Sat down at the computer (not the lap iPad parked in front of the TV) to update my resume and my list of questions for my PS for pre-op appointment tomorrow and found myself there for hours (BCO was calling loudly too). Planned to go to the grocery store for a couple items for dinner but never got there. And never got to exercise.
Did get some sleep Friday night, but not much. Yesterday, a group of ladies (support group) went walking around a lake, would sit and talk for a while, repeat. Mostly sitting and talking but the walk was nice, there were ducks following us, a sail boat race out on the lake, a gorgeous rose garden where a bride, groom and their wedding party taking photos (at first we thought it was a quinceniara, they were so young). Nice for a couple hours. Came home, sat down, out for a couple hours so not tired last night. Wound up waiting for supermoon (it would have been better to sleep), couple hours sleep, here I am. Planned to go walking, it's delightfully cool with a cool breeze but my stomach is holding me back. Need to get off my behind and do something.... Messes, laundry, and ironing are calling me. Can you hear them? -
gritgirl - sorry you are not feeling well - do you have any anti-nausea meds around the house? Also, pretty much all my shoes are uncomfortable these days - my feet are unhappy ever since chemo.
2nd time - I will turn 57 this summer - so it is a fact!
-
SpecialK, you don't look your age! I want whatever you're taking/doing!
-
2nd time and specialk. You both look young.
Might be xarelto that is making me sick. Found stuff that says take med with food so started doing that.
I'm hoping to make it to 60 myself.
Didn't do much today. Yesterday did do some house cleaning. Hoping I can be more motivated next week. -
Hi gritgirl
Sorry your not to fit. Hope the sickness is easing off.
Hi 2nd time at least over sixty is one hill I managed ok.
It's amazing how saying your over 60 sometimes makes you feel old. I forget I am still the mad hippie from way back. I intend to wear purple as the poem says and be disruptive in my old age hopefully for as long as possible.
No exercise today finishing my book for the book club tonight.
Special get the formula I know you and second don't need it but lots of us do. I do intend put my picture on here when I have finally told everyone about my dx to stage iv.
Take. Care. Mara -
Thank you ladies! I will take that compliment! The interesting thing is that I had a hyst/ooph 12 years ago so have been estrogen deprived all that time. I expected to look older, and expected chemo/surgery/aromatase inhibitors to age me more. I feel older, but do not usually look it, notice that I said usually - if I don't do hair and makeup and a cute outfit I am sometimes shocked by what I see in the mirror! Of course, I color my hair, growing it out from chemo showed me that it is really much more salt than pepper. Most people do not guess my age, but put me at about 10 years younger - I am older than my DH (and he is ripped and has a tan so I make him stand far away from me - the contrast is too much!) so I need to stay looking at least the same age he is, right? Or I could just settle for looking like a cougar, lol! I don't do anything unusual so it must be in my genes, possibly along with the breast cancer - so a trade-off...... P.S. - I think everyone on this thread looks great!
-
Specialk. It's genetics. My mom looked much younger than her age. And for me the breast cancer is definitely not genetic. I am the pioneer in the family, lucky me.
Today am more active. If it's cool enough tonight, will take the dogs for a walk. Temps are going up fast in the DC area.
-
SpecialK, I laughed at what you said about ur DH. Mine is 6 years younger than me, his premature gray looks dashing, mine needs peroxide camouflage. I never would have guessed ur age.
I wish everyone the best with beginning exercise. For the 1st time in my life, I am jogging. (Can't be called running, I'm so slow.) I can only manage once a week and I can't do anything else that day but nap, but I actually like it. Not sure how I'll feel in July. Like gritgirl, I have to watch the afternoon temps. -
gritgirl - I am BRCA neg but I am adopted so I have no access to fam history - seems that so many of us have BC there have to be undiscovered genetic pre-dispositions, along with so many other factors which are not well understood at this point.
tarheelmichelle - my niece is a tarheel, right now! Why is it that men with gray hair are dashing, but we just feel old and color it, lol! My hairdresser said I needed to stop covering my gray with brown and go to blond because I had too much gray and was starting to get that line in my part like a skunk! Yay on the jogging! I was all set to start back to running and developed a problem with my knee and the ortho doc said no running, so.... walking it is!
I feel you ladies on the heat - Tampa is already hot and sticky! Makes outdoor exercising a challenge unless you are getting up at 0 dark-thirty, which I am NOT!
-
SpecialK, Where does your niece live? I used to live in Tampa. I lived 2 blocks from Bayshore Boulevard, which is a superlong sidewalk for running or other exercising, for those of you who've never been there. As I recall, the weather was tolerable for exercise ... in March!
-
i have done zero today
all you florida ladies...it feels like the same weather here in toronto! omg hot and sticky. I am friggen melting especially when i am flashing
tomorrow im off to the gym...maybe
-
tarheelmichelle - I have no idea where she lives, but can ask my SIL! I will be in touch with her in the next few days and will inquire. My DH drives down Bayshore every day on his way to work at MacDill AFB.
-
today was a mid-level active day. too dang hot to walk the dogs, so i just did my regular too and from the subway walking.
-
I had thought I would have time to walk today but ended up having one of those days where the list of errands took twice as long because of road construction, forgetting to bring half the stuff I needed, forgetting to get cash first before I went to the cash-only dry cleaners, Forgetting that I needed to stop at places until I drove past them, etc. It was a Monday kind of Tuesday!
-
Hi rozem good to meet you did you know flashing has a totlally different meaning over here in the UK (I won't explain in public lol)Its strange how our language is so different sometimes. My last couple of days have been very lazy.
Well gritgirl today I have excelled my self I went swimming today in an outside pool. Unlike you hot ladies it is still not that hot over here fortunately the pool was heated.
Mara -
I worked in the garden for about an hour today. I've really been taking it easy the last week, because I hit my head on a door frame a week ago and gave myself a mild concussion. I think I'm just about over it now, though.
-
Curveball. I'm so sorry about the head.
Mara, flashing means the same thing in the US. That's just Rozem's fun way of describe a hot flash. Guess it does make you want to take off your clothes.
One language difference I do know. I switched my GPS voice to the British voice.instead of ramp, she says slip road. Took me a minute, but it's fun. Might switch to Australian voice next.
Today was a mid level activity day. More walking to and from subway. Still hotter than Hades here. -
Ugh! I don't like hot weather and it is supposed to be nearly 90 degrees here by next Sunday. After more than 30 years in the Northwest I've totally lost my ability to cope with heat, and as soon as the temp goes above 82 my brain starts to shut down. I won't be doing anything but lying around the house if the hot weather materializes as predicted.
-
Hi gritgirl it sure does. .I am hot and cold all the time. I had just got though the first menopause. Now I am at it again my poor dh.
I t must be awful for all you ladies in the hot temps.
Today I had my shopping delivered so putting it away will be my only excersise today. Hope to make up for it tomorrow.
Sorry about your head curveball take it easy in the heat.
Special. I love the Monday kinda Tuesday day . I have a lot of them.

Hi, I haven't posted for a little while so thought I'd check in. I've been cleaning carpets for the last week or so. One room at a time, but boy I sure love the new Bissel deepcleanx2 pet. I've been doing each carpeted room twice because it's been so long since I've been able to clean. Did my room today, ahhhhh so nice and fresh! I'm down to 2 bedrooms left to do, and I'd like to do the office again. One a day as long as my hip holds out is good for me. Going back to the Dr. today and going to ask him for some anti inflammatories to see if that'll help. Darn thing is swollen, and not getting better on it's own. Scans were all negative though, so that was great news, but walking can still be quite painful at times.
Curveball - hope your head is better, and your feeling better with that concussion.
MaraUK - putting groceries away after time spent shopping is great as you're still active.
It's been hot and humid here too, with a daily thundershowers. That reminds me, time to close the windows in some attempts to keep it cool in here. We have fans running all over the house to keep the air moving which seems to help. I hear you Curveball in regards to coping with the heat. I used to be outside all the time in the summer, not anymore. And draining! Did I mention how draining the heat was?
-
Cleaning carpets sounds like hard work, is this for real.
Today was an active day. Walked to the appointment with the nurse practitioner (aka Hitler in Heels) then went to dinner with Specialk who is in town. Lovely dinner and lovely to meet her.
Think I overdid it a bit. My back is aching. Get my tumor marker readings tomorrow. That will comfort me that it's not the cancer. I think everything is the cancer. I think ear wax is the cancer. Oy. -
grit so nice that you got to meet up with SK - i havent met anyone personally from the boards, all of the friends ive made here are either in the US or Australia - i hope your TM are good and that the back ache is a back ache
i went to the gym- 30min of cardio and weights
pooped tonite
kids are done school today so i see not so much gym time in the near future!
-
@gritgirl, I didn't do much in the way of exercise today. I did my stretches in the morning and that's it, but that was the first time I did them since I knocked my head last week.
"I think ear wax is the cancer"...what a great way to put it! I got a giggle out of that one.
-
Rozem. Good for you.
Curve ball. You should lead us in stretch exercises.
Walked to my herceptin so got a good walk in. Heading home to sleep it off.
My tumor markers were good so my muscle spasms are probably from not stretching. Curve ball?
