Hi Caryn! Thank you for your input. My whole family is grossed out at the thought of AlloDerm. But not me. They use is in many other types of surgeries too, such as for burn patients. I am really leaning towards this option and I'm so happy that you've shared your experience. It gives me hope that I can have a good result without the TE's.

Oh, Donna, you have made my day. I know I'm on the right discussion board now :0) Caryn weighed in on AlloDerm and now after reading your post too, I feel to encouraged about having reconstruction. Thank you, thank you for your informative post!

    Nancy,

Alloderm is also used with final implants after TE's. It helps prevent bottoming out of the implants, since there is no,support from breast tissue. If you go the one step route, make sure your ps has a lot of experience with them.

That was my thought. Sounds like the PS might be a bit unsure since he said the TE's have better looks. I'd ask how much he does of the one step and find another PS, if need be.

This is a great post. I'm scheduled on the 3rd of July for a BMX/immediate recon using alloderm with supplemental fat grafting (here's hoping, I've got a bit of extra to donate!).

Most of hte stories I've read are all about horrible complications with any kind of recon.  I won't have TEs because my skin apparently post-rads is in great shape and I am going to  stay my normal A cup size.

I'm glad to hear this and welcome more good stories about alloderm, recon, etc.

Yes, there are good stories and positive outcomes. I think people tend not to post very much if they've had a good experience since they don't need support or advice. I do think that the key to one step is being the right candidate for the procedure and having a ps who is very experienced with the procedure.

Oh I thank God for you ladies!!!!!! I have an appointment with the bs tomorrow morning. I have my list of questions, and I plan on making my final decision about reconstruction over the weekend. I have follow-up questions for my ps so I'll be putting a call into him as well.
