Wednesday Weigh In

Back to my "lowish." Definition? The lowest I've been since joining this thread. But I've been here twice before....so not a LOT of progress, but at least I'm heading in the right direction.
-
down two more....two to go for the '6 Pound Challenge'!
-
Yay Ruth and the other "losers"! I'm a gainer this week - 1.1 pounds.
I'll keep plugging away and hope next week is better.
-
Hi Ladies, mind if I join your group? I put on 20 lbs with chemo, but really needed to loose 20 lbs before that! I am trying to make several life changes to eat healthier and exercise. I had my lumpectomy on may 7 (my new birthday!) and have walked everyday since. Chemo has really knocked the (#€*¥) out of me, left me very short of breath, and unfortunately I still have thigh bone pain. I just got a pedometer and managed a 2 mile walk yesterday, so I am very pleased with my progress. I hereby declare my starting weight at 179.2 - I realize numbers aren't necessary, but feel that seeing it in black and white makes me more accountable! Thank you everyone, makes me feel motivated to see everyone's results!
-
Hi slv good for you!! I have a pedometer too and am trying to get up to that 10,000 steps a day that is recommended, or normal, or whatever that guideline is. For me it is hard too because I still have neuropathy in my right foot. I am sorry about your leg pain but great that you are pushing through! Kudos!!!
I also gained 20 pounds on chemo- my doc said many people do- the steroids mostly, and less activity. And for me it was the "cancer card eating". although I tried to be healthy I felt I "deserved" nummy stuff. And I did! Now back to reality.
So far I have lost about half but am wavering around the ten pound mark- ten more to go.
Thanks for inspiration everyone! -
Welcome svl! Yes, it definitely helps when you have to report in. If you want some exercise buddies; check out the "Lets Post Our Daily Exercise' thread....and I know there is another thread where people check in with their exercise, but I'm not sure of the name.
-
The other exercise thread is Exercise - Working Back to It During or After Treatment. Some women who are just starting out feel more comfortable posting there instead of the Let's Post Our Daily Exercise thread - although the Let's Post thread is welcoming to all, many of the women on that thread are quite active and that can be a bit intimidating to someone just starting on an exercise program. The women on the Exercise - Working Back thread are just as dedicated, but are newer at exercising. I post on both - both are very welcoming to all, no matter where you are with treatment and fitness.
-
Status quo from last week. Ugh! Oh well I didn't gain so I guess I should be happy about that.
-
Down .5 to 131. Since it bounces around daily, my goal is to keep the high number from getting any higher - and eventually to have a lower high number.
-
hi all and welcome sciencegal and slv58. Down this morning - yay!
also 2 more to go on 6-6 challenge (2 more lbs in 2 more weeks).
This week, I'm avoiding chocolate, cheese, sugar and wheat.
-
What's left to eat?
-
LOL Ruth, I KNEW you'd ask that!
Meat, fruit, veggies, chickpeas, rice, nuts, yogurt, milk, coffee & wine (so far).
-
Thank gosh you still have the wine!!!
-
Yep, and margaritas, too!
Leftovers tonight: Spanish rice, refried beans, bacon & avocado in a corn tortilla - yum!
-
Down 8 lbs after taking 5-HTP (50 mg) three times a day. It is a supplement so you don't need a prescription. I took the 5-HTP to help with tamoxifen induced hot flashes. It didn't help the flashes very much but it did give me energy, took my blues away, and suppressed my appetite! Yaaaay!
-
Gailsun, sounds amazing! Over what time period did you lose the 8 lbs. Can you take it with Tamoxifen?
-
Hi, didn't get here Weds but was down and still down today. Thanks to loseit.com which really helps to keep me on track. Cheated today as a reward but not too bad and right back on track tomorrow.
-
Ali68......Yes, I am taking 5-htp with Tamoxifen (I can't believe I left that out of my prior post.....brain fog). I have lost 8 lbs in a month. I am so relieved because I was a couch potato with no energy. Now I have energy and I am exercising again. I still would like to figure out how to get rid of these hot flashes, though!
-
Attawoman patoo!
Please talk to your doc before taking 5-HTP if you're on an anti-depressant.
"5-HTP increases a brain chemical called serotonin. Some medications for depression also increase serotonin. Taking 5-HTP along with these medications for depression might increase serotonin too much and cause serious side effects..."
That said, glad it's boosted your mood and got you exercising again, gailsun1965!
-
I also googled 5-htp. Apparently Dr Oz did a program on it in January. Sounds okay, with badger's caution above (among other cautions) and it was also suggested to take it no longer than 12 weeks and buy quality to guard against contaminants and unnecessary fillers. But if you can get into an exercise routine that lasts 12 weeks, more than likely you will develop the habit and keep it up when you stop the 5-htp. May try it myself!
-
Down 300 grams despite pigging out on foie gras and dessert last weekend. Yummm! I doubled up on the Zumba to more than compensate.
-
down another .8.....which is good because I went to a family reunion Saturday and ate like a pig! I have 1.2 to go to meet the '6 by the 4th' challenge. I can do it if I'm good!
-
Up one, but that was after 6 days of travel and eating out, so I'll take it! (But I won't keep it for long!!)
-
Morning Ladies, I'm down 1 pound.....but in honesty I had a colonoscopy yesterday (yeah, clear!) I am exercising everyday and really watching what goes in so hopefully it will show in numbers.
-
Haven't weighed in 2 weeks, but I am actually down a pound to 162. So I survived wedding week and posted a loss - amazing. Even though there was tons of food all week, I guess I was too busy to pig out. Need to put some movement back in my life, and sensible eating.
-
I am still on my current plateau (12-13 pounds lost of the 20 gained during chemo) but will be starting radiation tomorrow so I dont know how much working out I can do with sore skin and fatigue, working full time?
I am going to keep eating healthy stuff and walking as much as I can. Will ramp up the workouts after I coddle my skin through the next six weeks.
I will keep posting though so I don't GAIN again!!! (playing the "I feel sorry for myself so will eat pie" cancer card).
Thanks for the inspiration girls! -
Down 1 pound. I'll take it. I've been very very good, no sweets, no junk, no eating out. I'm having 1 cheat day a week so I don't feel deprived. Gone are the days though when I could drop 5 pounds in a week if I put my mind to it.
-
Up .5 to 131.5. Wish I could figure out why it bounces around so much. All I can think of is water weight, but why?
-
One down, one to go! Been so good, only cheated twice. HAD to taste-test for quality control the choc chip cookies I made Sunday night and Monday afternoon I discovered and devoured a box of dark-chocolate Raisinetes I had stashed in my desk. It was a stressful day at work. So now I pack some fresh sweet local strawberries for my afternoon snack - YUMMY!
-
Increased my exercise and ate a lot less and lost 1 pound. I'm happy with it given my age and slowed age-related metabolism.
Everyone seems to be doing so well. We seem to have a free Weight Watchers online program and are super motivated to lose the weight!
