sweetpickle-So will you have to go back to BS again? any more surgeries..I was planning to go to Charleston, mainly because sister lives down there and there is good surgeon there..my inlaws are in Charlotte though..love them, but couldn't imagine staying there. If I ever can get through all my issues with MX site, start chemo and whatever else..Im doing the DIEP..is it not so bad? I think with it, unlike MX, there is happy comes from it..new breast! So may be worth more pain.

CKmoss, I believe the place to put in a signature line is in your profile.  You have to click a button too if I remember correctly for it to show publicly.

Which reminds me, it's time to change my ringtone on my phone to that.  :D  It humors me.

Catey- Good luck tomorrow, let us know how you are doing when its done.

Ckmoss- I still have to do the oophectomy (sp?) and stage 2 of diep where they will smooth things out but that will be a couple of months from now. I think the diep may be harder to recover from at first, long term I like the results. Its a bit harder than MSX but mostly because I have more drains to deal with.

    How are you feeling today?

Sweetpickle-the port pain is down a tad..not sure if because of meds or not..too much a wuss to find out..but is manageable. I am very fatigued ..any little thing just gets me..almost feel like Ive started chemo, but was told is this infection in my MX site..Ive got to call oncologist tomorrow..not sure if chemo will be put off or not. I guess it will if infection still there. Im in better mood though. Not great, but not growling at everyone..lol..I actually got dressed, put on makeup and brushed my hair..something that for the past 3-4 days the thought was beyond me. So better I think.  baby steps. Thanks for asking!

Ck- So glad you are feeling better, Im sure they will delay chemo if you have an infection because chemo tends to drop your white blood count. I had a horrible time with my blood counts during chemo but made it through ok. Mine wouls drop like clockwork five days after chemo so I would lock myself away from people for three to four days so that I didnt catch anything (I would drop down to zero) and then Id bounce right back up.

Give yourself time to heal for sure!

HI everyone!  This is my first post to the site as I feel like I can get rid of my tunnel vision after diagnosis.  I was diagnosed 5/7 and had left mastectomy on 5/20.  Started the reconstruction process which has gone well over the last three weeks, but it's hard getting used to the hockey puck boob on my ribcage.....  All my tests are back and I meet with the oncologist tomorrow.  I'm 47 and still pretty freaked out.  Hard not thinking about cancer and my 6 and 11 year old kids about 500 times a day....does it get easier???  Hope so!   I am stage 1 but had two small spots on the left....don't know what that means having two.  ER/PR pos Her2 neg, BRCA neg, sentinel nodes  all three negative, oncotype 14....  I am in the medical field and actually am a PA.  I worked with general surgeons assisting with breast cancer patients and their surgeries,  but the game has changed now that I'm a patient! Hope to connect with some kick A women for support and when I'm feeling stronger, want to reach out to others!!

My surgery wasn't too painful.  The drains were painful especially where they come out of the skin.  I wanted to start running again, but that got blocked by the plastic surgeon....my recommendation to those in the early stages of reconstruction is....protect your investment and listen to your doctor!!!

Thanks for listening and strength to you all!  Jen

    Hi Jen,

Sorry that you have need of this board but glad you found us. I also have two twelve year olds and a nine year old so I know what you mean about kids and worry. I think it does get better the further through the process we get. Hang in there!

Wow, you guys have been super busy posting!

Ck: glad you are finally on the mend. I haven't done chemo, so I'm definitely no expert, but I agree with sweet pickle: wait until the infection heals. A lot of people have a side effect of lower white blood cell counts when going through chemo. Not a risk you should take while you are fighting an infection.

Jen: it seems our dx is very, very similar. Same age, same hormone receptors, same oncotype, etc. did you have ILC, IDC, or a different type of cancer?

Everyone: I felt the positive vibes you sent my way over the last few days. My nodes (2) were clean, my flap procedure done, and I'm home :) I expect to sleep in the recliner tonight. Came home with 3 drains. Not too annoying, probably because I'm so glad to be rid of catheters, IVs, and the epidural. My nurses kept telling me how great I look. Ok. Whatever. I know I look like crap. My PS, too, is very pleased with the way everything looks, especially the "tummy tuck". I guess they probably all mean I look great considering the stage I'm at.

Everything is tiring, even typing, so I'll check in later. Love you guys. Thanks for the prayers and positive vibes!

Sweetpickle, remember, if you "make it up to him" within 48 hours of chemo, he must wear a condom.  Cool

Hi Ladies. Hope you are all feeling a little bit better and stronger today.

3 days post chemo and I'm still doing ok.

Couldn't visit my Dad today because he has pneumonia. My kids (21, 19 & 16) are having dinner with their Dad.

I'm going to go into work for the first time since my surgery tomorrow (been working from home) and I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by this stupid cancer. My youngest had a lacrosse tournament this weekend and I only had the energy to go to 2 of the 4 matches. Still have some limited range of motion with my arms and that stuffed surgical bra resting in my TEs just hurt all day. I feel like the goal of feeling good again is so far away from my reach.

Sorry, ladies. Just feeling a little overwhelmed. :(

Steph- Yay, so glad you are doing well! Congrats on clean nodes too!!!!

GoWiththeFlow- LOL, I am so far away from needing those but thanks for the reminder. :-)

Ambnh- Sounds like you are doing great, it is easy to become overwhelmed during chemo. Be easy on yourself and try not to push yourself to much with work and life. I did that after my first treatment and landed myself in the hospital.

Thanks Sweetpickle. I needed to be reminded of how easy it is to push myself too hard. I have a big tendency to do that. Seeing where you are now, past the chemo, past the surgery and just completing the diep shows me I will get there! Thanks so much! :)

Steph-Congrats on the clean nodes and I am so happy everything went well for you!!  We will discuss drains later..not sure how thankful you are going to stay.

AMBNH-My onc nurse likes to say..you can't eat an elephant in one meal..one bite, one day at a time..this is a mighty big elephant!  Cheesy , yes but fitting.  I think with this, you have to just do what you can and say the hell with the rest. I had been still cleaning house, cooking after only week or so post surgery (both of them)..when this port thing hit with infection behind it..I finally threw up my hands and said the hell with trying to do eveything like I did , and always have before. Its hard to give that up for awhile..but the quicker you do , the quicker your body will heal and you will get better...HUGE, easy HUGS for you!!!!  Hoping the chemo goes easy on you.

Thanks, Ckmoss! Your advice is well taken. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I need a dope slap to make me not try to be super woman. Siiiiiggghhhhh, why do we women do this to ourselves?

Well goodnight all! I hope everyone sleeps well.  We have made it through another day of this craziness!

Chimneymae=any decision yet? I know this has been stressful for you and I hope it all turns out well.

Jen-Welcome to our group! You sound like you have a great attitude!

AMBNH-Im not sure why we do..it felt great saying the hell with it for the past 4 days..no stress and for the first time in my life (literally) was able to take a couple of naps a day ..normally my brain won't shut up, I feel like I need to be doing something,etc..however, because pain finally dialed it down a notch where the meds actually worked on them..I cooked supper and did light dusting , etc..So I understand how hard..but when its time to give up the goat its time.

Run with-You are in my prayers..I know you are hurting..my port was in the right place and killed me..on my neck..I still shudder..prayers and hugs!!  remember only 3 days and it gives some..tomorrow is your 3rd day..so one more and it will be over.

Catey=I hope everything goes easy for you..well wishes for you!!

    Night all!

Hi Ho Hi Ho, it's off to work I go. I'm a graphic designer in a marketing department at a community college district, so it's not physically demanding, just mental. We update all our recruitment pieces in the summer, so I've gotta get those creative juices flowing.

Today is also when I Skype with one of the Mayo doctors. I'm looking forward to getting answers to my questions.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Morning ya'll!  My oncologist nurse called (shes great at returning calls and talking/giving advice..loads of patience!)...Dr Chung wants to push me out another week for chemo...said that this infection needs to be cleared up and fluid evaluated before they can start..much of what you said SweetPickle.  I called surgeons nurse (takes forever to call back, and non-empathetic..Id say she is "polite"..Ive said other words on other days..lol)..of course, two hours later haven't heard from her..told her that he said change gauze/cloths 3 times daily..having to do 7-8 times a day..honestly, I would like my drain back) also have blisters, again, at each end of every single steri strip at port incision. BURNING /ITCHING INSANELY..having to use lidocaine on it....Believe it or not, in fairly good mood today. Amazing what we get use to.....however, stomped my toe on chaise yesterday  evening and burst into tears..my husband thought I had broke my toe due to all the wailing..I was like, "I CANT STAND ANYMORE PAINNNN"..(say this with loud wailing to get full effect)...I think I have just reached my limit for pain..its at the line that says "Do not cross!..violators will be met with hysterics for the tiniest infraction!"

Sorry you have to wait another week and are still having problems CKMOSS.  I'm in a pissy mood today.  DO NOT want to start rads.  Don't want them, scared to death, would rather go back to chemo.  Thankfully I'm meeting with my MO an hour before my rad appointment so I can whine and complain to her.
