Sherry- Hoping your house sells SOON so you can move on!
Janet- sounds like you are doing fantastic.
sweet pickle- you keep pampering yourself. Our heads always try to convince us to do more than or bodies can at these times. My PS said to find a balance of doing enough to get stronger but not too much which could cause a set back. Balance, then every few days, reassess and rebalance.
I kept very busy with birthday celebration for dd yesterday. She is 10. We had taco bowls and cake at the house, packed food at Feed My Starving Children and then everybody went to a local pool to swim. She also asked for no presents and wanted donations to FMSC instead. She raised$387. Sweet girl, very proud of her. We has a lot of fun but I barely hobbled into the house last night. I was quite done.
dh is making father's day/youngest sons birthday crepes for brunch while I sit with coffee. points for dh today. -
Lynda- sounds like a busy day for you! Sounds like you are raising a wonderful little girl!

Morning ladies,
Welcome McCrimmon - you'll find everything here that you will ever need to know about DIEP.
Seems this week's DIEP ladies are all doing fine? Sweetpickle, Janet - way to go!
Sherry, good luck on selling your house this weekend! What a pain in the backside it is to always be show ready - yep, been there myself a few times.
Was looking for a recipe yesterday, then happened upon this one. The name was what caught my eye . . .
FLAPPER PIE ! ! ! ! ! !
1 C wafer crumbs, 1/2 C brown sugar, 1/4 C melted butter, 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Mix together. Place 3/4 of mixture in pie plate, saving the rest for crumbs on top. Bake 8 min. at 350 F.
Filling
2 C milk, 2 egg yolks, 2 Tbls constarch, 1/4 C sugar, 1 tsp vanilla
Mix sugar and cornstarch in a medium size pot. Add milk and beaten egg yolks. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring all the time, until it thickens. Add vanilla. Spread in pie plate while hot. Beat 2 eggwhites till stiff, add 3 Tbls of icing sugar, and beat. Spread on filling. Sprinkle remaining crumbs on top and bake at 300 F until golden brown, about 15 - 20 min.
Haven't tried it, but it sounds delicious, and very easy.
Enjoy the Sunday!
-
Hey Janet M, so lovely to hear everything went well, good wishes for a great recovery!
-
It's so nice to hear everybody doing so well today. The girls in the hospital are doing great, everybody seems to be having a nice Father's Day, and all's well with the world for the moment. Yeah!
Flapper Pie....lol. Just might try that recipe!!!!
-
Lol, love the flapper pie!
-
Sweet pickle- My pain level's about 6/10, and it's isolated above my abdomen. When I'm in bed I can get pretty comfy, but walking is still tricky.
How about your pain level?. -
I'd say about the same, my lower stomch is still pretty tight so it takes some doing to get comfy. Im taking vicaden during the day and percocet at night which helps. I also had to take an ativan a coupe of nights to get to sleep but I think thats getting better too. Im hoping to move to tylenoyl after I get my drains out.
-
I was up and at'em this morning at 7:45. coffee, breakfast for the hubby, had to clean the kitchen first (grrr). Anyway, I'm feeling energetic again today. Feeling better every day. 3 wks 2 days post op. No more trouble getting up and down. Not using the walker at all. 95% upright. I do get tired, like wiped out yesterday, but able to sustain with frequent rest.
Hubby goes back to work tomorrow. I have one more week. Longer if I ask. I'm going to go back 1/2 time and work my way back to 40 hrs +. I feel like I'll do better on a routine. Kids go back to school, summer school, on 6/24 as well. So, target is 6/24 for back to normal routine and we'll see how that goes.
Slept pretty good again last night. I did wear the binder. It's pretty tight feeling even without it, so why push.
sweetpickle, you are coming along fine.
Janet, you ,too, keep on moving.
This week's upcomers: BEST OF LUCK TO YOU:

Welcome Heather! Theses ladies are great and they will keep your funny bone tickled,
Yikes....this week! Yes, my turn is almost here. I alternate between nervous, ready to get this tumor out, and cleaning house. Lol -
Congratulations to our 3 ladies who are up this week! So happy your wait for THE DAY is coming to an end!
-
So I was talking about my surgery today. I call it my build a boob surgery ( like build a bear) - my joke- and my brother comes up with a new name for it. He says I'm getting anti gravity boobs! I say what do you mean? To which he replies " at your age your boobs should be touching your belly and now your belly is going to be touching your boobs!" OMG, I was laughing very hard but then wanted to slap him ( in a funny way) as I'm only 41. But hey that's our weird sense of humour. Hope I didn't offend anyone. It was good to have a good laugh!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Good luck to the three ladies that are up this week. I will be thinking of you.
Cheers,
Sherry -
Sherry- Its good to laugh, I try to do it as often as possible! :-)
-
Sherry, that's what brothers are for! I have two of them, just 3 years apart from me to the youngest and one in the middle! The youngest one was with me at a wedding last weekend, I had the first strapless dress on that I've worn without a bra in FOREVER - and he came up to me at one point and said 'nice boobs' - LOL - only a brother!
That is too funny about the anti-gravity boob! Very funny! -
Hey Ladies...just finished a loooong day of moving daughter out of our place and into her new apartment.
Shechirple....thanks so much for "posting" this weeks dates!!!!!
Just want to say "well done" to the newbies healing this week, and to this week's "class"....safe surgeries and easy recoveries. We're all behind you!!!!
-
Hi ladies -
So I am new to this board. I am having the DIEP surgery this Wednesday 6/19!
I had silicone implants placed 3 yrs ago and was very unhappy with them so now I am going this route.
Any quick last minute advice for me and this surgery? I have been so busy finisihing up the school as a teacher and my daughter just graduated from HS and her party was yesterday so I just have not had time to do research on what I need to take to the hospital or will need after to recover!
Thanks a bunch and good to the others who are going in this week,
Kelli
-
Welcome Kelli! I'm up this week too. There is tons of great information on this thread including packing lists. Good luck!
Sharon -
Kelli-
As someone who is still recovering in the hospital, I can say that you won't need much. I packed a very large bag - as though I was off on a jaunty holiday - but the only thing I've needed is my robe. My sister brought me some organic towelettes, which have been useful, and I suspect that I will also be using the granny underpants that I picked up. I'm also getting a lot of mileage out of my iPad, cus sleep is intermittent, but the tv here is probably just as good.
I also got a pre-surgery pedicure, and I'm really glad I did, cus I'm pretty sure I look like sh*t, but I can see my feet sticking out the end of the bed, and they make me happy.
I'm three days post- op, and these are the things I've needed
Towelettes
Lip Balm
Face Soap
Robe
iPad/book
Reading glasses
And I've also got my going home outfit, which is a baggy shirt which buttons down the front, and large yoga pants. Slippers are probably a good idea too, but I've just been wearing the hospital ones.
I wish you all the best - and hope that you have fabulous summer of healing and relaxing,
Janet -
Kad22, I love the Olay cleansing towelettes for face. Toothbrush, Hairbrush, lip balm, Biotene for dry mouth, moisturizer, some kind of Internet connectable device, I brought a little make up in case I ever felt like putting it on. Never happened. Leave all valuables at home, wallet, purse, jewelry, etc. I put my ID in my husbands wallet in case they ever asked for it, but they never did.
-
Kelli - I forgot to mention the shower chair. I rented one for when I'm home, and I'll also have to ask someone to pick me up a hose that fits onto the bath tap. At this point, I don't think m steady enough on my feet to risk a shower, but who knows.
And I second what Goldie said about valuables. I brought my wallet with me on surgery day, and sent it home with Jim after I'd checked in. I also asked him to take my favourite necklace home. It's s butterfly symbolozing re-birth, but he's just been carrying it around in hid pocket. Said it makes him feel good. -
Good luck to the ones going in this week. Lip balm is a must!! Your mouth and nostrils get very dry from the oxygen. Shampoo and conditioner. Trust me, you'll want to wash your hair. Gum was also good to have around.
I've been wearing this stupid brace all day and the knee still hurts, and the side if my chest is been hurting too on the other side. I'm not sure if this is nerves reconnecting, but I feel like the princess and the pea when I lay in bad. Something positive is that the blister on my right side is all healed up and throne on the left is looking much better!! I can't wait for that sucker to be gone!!
Hope everyone had a good day celebrating Father's Day! -
Kuka, hope you and that knee get to feeling better. MRI this week?
-
Sharon and Kelli, welcome and good luck this week.
I'm 3 wks post op.
I used very little in the hospital. I agree with lip balm, there is dryness. I prefer my own toothbrush/paste to that they issue at the hospital.
I have medium length straight hair, and I knew from previous experience there would be no washing, so appropriate hair clips/bands to put it up nice and everyone complimented me on my hair. A brush/comb. What was oily/dirty looked freshly cleaned/damp, turned up into clips.
Facial cleanser or wipes. I have little pocket packs, like baby wipes, of lavendar cleanser that you just wipe on, no water needed. Refreshing.
Several changes of underpanties, one size larger than usual to fit over the dressings.
I was in and out of sleep on the drugs, so the hospital TV was enough. I had my kindle fire so I could access the web if I wanted to, but I never even tried. My cell phone was handy.
I couldn't beleive it, the day I was sent home hubby did not have my bag in his car. When he left me at the hospital I assumed he would leave my bag in the car that had my sundress in it that I wore into the hospital. I mean I had it on all of an hour on the way there and intended to just slip it back on to go home. He actually had to run out to the local KMart or Target or something and buy me a new sundress to throw on to wear home. In all fairness, he did not know I was going home that day and had come straight from work. But, I truly thought he would just leave my bag in the car. So, yes, clothes to go home in.
I feel no modesty what-so-ever when it comes to my breasts anymore. I have shown my brother, my sister, my sisters friends (female). I just don't feel like they are me. My brother is genuinely medically curious and we talk, serious and laughingly. He got the biggest kick out of the 'pubic hair on my boobies' comments. I wont even tell you where that went!
Good luck to all.
-
Good morning ladies, including Kelli, welcome! Reading this thread was my best primer for surgery and you will find all these experienced flapper girls holding you up every step of the way! It is awesome. I will add my two cents on the lip balm and shower chair at home....essentials for me!
-
Best wishes going out to all ladies having surgery this week.
kad22.....sorry I didn't respond last night...just too tired. But all our gang certainly have jumped in to help you out. I agree with everything already said about what to bring....not much...but my hospital does expect you to bring your own slippers, and you want the non-slip, slide into kind. Soft, loose clothes to go home in are important, you will likely be swollen throughout the tummy area...I also had swollen feet, so shoes that can be adjusted, like laced runners, or flip flops are good. At home, definitely, I needed a few things....I was able to rent all my at home aids... electric recliner chair really was a blessing for me, but not essential if you have help and lots of pillows at home. Shower chair and commode were lifesavers. I needed a wheeled walker for a few days...I used it in hospital, thought I was "over it" by discharge time...found out very quickly, my back still needed that little bit of "help"....was done with it about 3 days after getting home (I was in hospital for 7 days). I had almost an hour drive to get home....I found a couple small pillows tucked between me and the seat belt saved my sanity, too. It is a very different recovery than from implants...I had been that route before. But you will likely be very, very happy with the final result.
Janet...Your Jim sounds so lovely. Do you know when you are getting sprung yet??
Kuka....the brace is probably more to keep you from putting anymore stress on that knee, not specifically to sort out what's wrong with it, or give pain relief. Sorry, though, any joint pain is a PAIN.....my shoulders agree with that!!!! Have you kept up with icing your knee....might help, won't hurt it any.
Bailey...how's that last drain doing now???? Ready to get pullled???
Hoping for a great week for everyone.
Off to yoga, then physio, then I'm going to sit alone in my condo and just smile!!!!!!! Hubby plans on doing the same thing when he gets home from work.
-
I also swear by my "reacher" - a grabber type thing that I can pick stuff up by not bending down or reaching. And a back scratcher! Good for reaching stuff on the tray or at least moving it!
I always bring an eye mask and ear plugs to help me sleep right after they give me the meds- even during the day.
Best wishes for an uncomplicated surgery day for the ladies up! -
Nihahi - I might go home tomorrow. I've still got all my drains - but will lose one tonight. My nurse is newly pregnant, so we're comparing who's barfier.
Newsflash - I just had a drain pulled one minute ago! In the middle of this post! Stung for a second but calmed down within a moment.
I'm envious of your yoga. I'm going to shuffle down the hall with greasy hair - but one less tube. Yay! Kelli - you might want to add a bandana to your list. My hair's short - and I use it to push it all back. Feels good -
My hospital list:
lip balm, shampoo/conditioner (I washed my hair in my bathroom sink!), a big plastic double-walled iced beverage container (ice water will be your best friend), battery-powered electric toothbrush, robe, slippers, facial wipes, lotion, tweezers (who knew anesthesia made chin hairs grow?), reading glasses, phone and charger. I wore no panties, granny or otherwise, in the hospital. Why compress those drains?
I also left anything remotely valuable at home. Wedding ring, watch, earrings, purse, everything.
Just finished my Monday morning shoulder physical therapy and I feel great. Ready to insert my head into my computer here at work and get on with my day. Happy Monday, everyone!
-
Janet, did you have to spend any time in the icu? My ps tells me I'll be there for 2 days. (mostly because of the hourly doppler readings on my new bellyboobs.) :sigh: no phones or anyway to get online from there
so I'll have to wait to tell you guys how I'm doing. Also when they took out the cathether, did that hurt?
-
I agree on the wheeled walker and used it at the hospital and at home for about 3 days until I felt confident.
