Abnormal Scans----just started chemotherapy today.

Options

I started chemotherapy today. It was a breeze so far!! We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I was also given some interesting information about the scans I had last week. MUGA was just fine but my CT scans had some abnormalities. They found a cyst like lesion on one of my ovaries and also three axillary lymph nodes under my right arm ( the side of my good breast). THey were concerned enough to U/S my axillary region once my infusions were finished. Of course it was too late in the afternoon to have anyone interpret for me. Radiologist was very firm that I spoke with my oncologist.

I am scheduled for a PET scan and repeat CT on July 1 to confirm the ovarian problem. Anyone have any input? Am I likely to be going back to surgery and if so, will they wait until I finish my six Chemo treatments or will they just do it? I know there are no definites...I'm just looking to hear anecdotes, experiences or suppositions. Thanks.

Have you been told whether the PET is for your whole body or just the ovary region? If it covers your axilla, you will get some more information from it about whether there is activity in those nodes. Or it may be that the ultrasound has already ruled out node involvement, and you will find that out when you speak with your oncologist.

    Hi Jay,

I had 75 percent positive nodes before chemo (3 of four) and a nine cm tumor, I took the TCH as neo-adjuvant therapy before the mastectomy. At the time of surgery< after chemo, the cancer was gone- 24 clean lymph nodes and just one dying/dead nest of tumor in the excised breast tissue.

So, although our situations are not exactly the same, I just wanted to say that the herceptin is an amazing drug and I really wish you the best, and I hope that it clears up anything anywhere in your body!!

There is also a new approved drug, Kadcyla from Roche, for her2+ mets. It looks really promising in case of progression later, after the first-line TCH chemo. It is herceptin directly linked to taxane. I posted the link at the top. My doc told me about it since she wanted to let me know that "we have an option" if/when I relapse.

I hope you do well through chemo- best of luck!!
