Having zucinni 'pasta' with bolognaise sauce tonight. For breakfast I had 4 rice crackers with avocado and lunch was a clear vegetable soup. I'm rarely hungry and if I am I have a small handful of nuts.
I have been searching for paleo recipes and I found a downloadable recipe book yesterday and it includes some deserts and pseodu sweets so I'm going to be checking them out as I do miss the occasional sweet thing.

Wow Momine very inspiring...thanks for sharing!! I will be adding these two days of low calorie intake to my life style....I see nothing but benefit to it for me!! I juice...so on these days I am thinking it will be a juice ( veggies only) fast with your soup!!

Porridge made with water for breakfast splash semi skimmed organic milk over it as no berries ate them all yesterday.
Handfull of organic almonds for lunch
Normal evening meal so hungry completed 48hrs 2 days 600 calories each.

Is this 2 day calorie restriction about losing weight or fighting cancer?
I do remember reading something about it some time ago in relation to cancer, so curious to know everyone's reasoning behind it. I'm about to google & do some reading on it....

Kazzie61 ....i have been doing reduced calorie diet now for 2 months. 2 days at 600 cals..eat normally for 5. there is a book by Dr michael Mosely, its called the fast diet, you can lose weight on this diet, the reason i do it is for health benifits, it gives our bodies a rest, it seems when its not working hard digesting food its healing.
It is hard to start with, get rearly hungry, then it becomes the norm, may even look forward to fast days, not having to think about meals for two days is a bonus.
I feel rearly good on it, enjoy my food much more on non fast days

Kazzie, I am mainly doing it to keep my blood sugar (slightly elevated) and cholesterol (creeping up thanks to femara) in check. However, there are also some suggestions that this kind of eating may protect against recurrence of breast cancer.
So far I am finding it easier than tracking all my food daily.

So, I had blood work done this past week. My cholesterol dropped to 180 from 197. My A1c is still at 5.5, but I am hoping that it may come down some if I keep at it.

Yay Momine! So good to hear that the good things are starting to happen for you. I have no idea what my levels are but I guess I should get it checked next time I see the doc........just one more thing to remember when I see him.....lol.

I haven't posted much, because I have basically stuck to my original menu, more or less. Another breakfast is a green apple and 5 walnut halves. I imagine a banana would be ok too.
The cauliflower and carrot soup with the yogurt is very filling for me and easy to make.
My cholesterol was down 20 points on the last blood work, and the femara-provoked acne I had been struggling with is going away. A1c is steady and the fasting glucose was all the way down to 85, which is the best it has been in years. I obviously can't say if the fasting is responsible, but I feel well and intend to continue. I would really like to see if it is possible to get the A1c down to 5.4 or under.

Momine those numbers are really good! Have you noticed weight loss to go with it?

Chrissy, my onc wants me no thinner than what I am now, so I make sure to eat extra calories on the non-fasting days. But I would think that if you watched your caloric intake the other days, you could also lose weight with the fasting. For me it has the advantage that I can keep my weight steady, or so it seems until now, without having to count calories on the non-fasting days.

That's interesting.........usually with calorie restriction even if it is only two days the weight will reduce, but as you say, having loaded calories on your non fast days will keep you steady. Sigh.........I wish my doc told me not to lose any more weight........I must admit that he doesn't harp on my weight but I know he would prefer me a little lighter.....lol.....as do I. Oh well, I'll just keep on with the eating pattern I have and hopefully it wil keep coming off but with cold weather and the modefied cold weather fare its a little harder than when it's warmer and salads are on the menu.

Chrissy, yes, I know my "problem" is not one many can empathize with. I was quite heavy at DX, 25 pounds more than I am now. As the cancer shrunk, so did I. Part of it was that I had to get more diciplined about my eating, but I think it was also just my body somehow righting itself (I used to be thin).
Last year, I had gotten too thin, and both docs demanded that I put on 5 pounds, which I did. I am happy at my current weight, so I would like to hold steady where I am, if possible. Also, because you asked, I weighed myself, and I was down 2 pounds this morning, so I am in the process of cooking a giant lunch and had pancakes for breakfast. I see my onc next week, and he has a bad habit of weighing me

Lol Momine, maybe I was meant to ask that question to prompt you to weigh in and check. Your breakfast sounds delicious and I hope your lunch is just as tasty.

Chrissy, it was delicious, if I do say so myself. I got a big piece of salmon fillet, skin on. That I just cooked simply, with a little ginger and lemon zest. I have figured out that if you put it in a hot pan, skin-side down, then put a lid on and lower the heat, it cooks perfectly and doesn't get dry. It is so easy.
Then we had a salad/salsa made of baby roma tomatoes, quartered, finely diced yellow pepper and scallions, cilantro, lemon and olive oil. I also made guacomole, quite a lot of it, with more cilantro, green chile sauce, scallions etc.
For starch, we had some rough, whole wheat rolls from the good bakery down the road.

Momine you are making my mouth water....lol.....that sounds so good! You have definitely found the chefs way of cooking salmon so the skin is crispy and the flesh perfect. I must try it with ginger and lemon as that sounds great........I usually do it with lemon juice and a little browned butter with fresh parsley to dress.......now I am hungry......lol.

Chrissy, in Denmark they often serve fish with browned butter and parsley that has been fried in the butter till crisp. It is very nice, but I quit eating butter when I started letrozole.

Momine, I don't have it very often if fact probably only three or four times a year but it is my treat.......lol.......but I do remember the taste and it is heavenly!

Just to update. Thanks to Chrissy, I realized that fasting 2 days a week was making me shrink, which I can't really afford right now. So, I laid off for 2-3 weeks, and now I am trying again fasting just once a week.

Momine hope the one day a week is enough to cleanse and not to shrink anymore. Unfortunately my weight loss has come to a standstill and because my gastro doc wants to test me for coeliacs I am eating gluten for the next two weeks which is making me feel stodgy and yuk........hopefully not too much weight will go back on in the mean time but I know gluten is very detrimental to my weight control.........sigh.
Oh well, on the brighter side I may just get some answers.

Momine, I'm with you on slowing down the weight loss train so you don't disappear. I've also stopped counting calories as you can get obsessed with it and I also don't want to lose too quickly. I had a moment of panic when I seemed to be losing too quickly and then I started thinking my cancer cells will soon be eating from my muscles and bones might as well feed them some chocolate. Ugh.

Heidi, especially since I am not trying to lose weight. All I am looking to do is keep glucose and cholesterol staple, and maybe also help keep the cancer away. My doc already thinks I am a bit too thin (which I am not, I have a respectable BMI around 19, but it is on the thin side). The other plus I noticed with the fasting is that it cleared up the acne I got from the femara. It really is just too ridiculous to be 50, have no tits and no ovaries and then get freakin' acne!

Thanks girls. I have been afraid to jump on the scales but I think I will when I get home tomorrow.......at the moment I am in the city about to go for my regular six month with the breast specialist........unfortunately I have a few questions for him as well. Hopefully the answers will be all good.

Momine, I know, it sometimes feels like being part of a circus freak show. Asymmetric chest, thinning hair, lots of hyperpigmentation in my case.
Have another appt. with the dentist today, hopefully the last one, to put in my new permanent crown. I better get my calories in before then. So far I don't seem to be having any creeping ONJ issues.
I feel better eating a bit more. I think probably my glucose would drop too low on fasting days. For some strange reason I feel stronger getting the calories, then obliterating them with exercise as opposed to not getting the calories in in the first place. It must have something to do with the way my body stores and utilizes fat.
