I meant to write genes* in the subject, but I don't know how to edit my typo!

Anyways: Woot! The Supreme Court's unanimous ruling makes me feel hopeful today : )

As a lawyer and as a BRCA2-positive male, I think yesterday's Supreme Court decision was terrific! I was so pleased in the Court's unanimous(!) ruling that Myriad Genetic Inc. does NOT own the gene mutation that triggered my cancer. I was surprised and very, very pleased by the fact that it was a unanimous decision. You can't get more definitive than that, eh?

The effect will be quite positive for my two children, who’ve been told that they need to do the screening test by the time they are 25 (they are now 18 and 13). I trust you’ll join me in hoping that they beat the 50/50 odds and both come up negative.

It's a great decision, but I've always said that I would happily let the company own the mutation ... as long as the company's board of directors "own" that mutation like I own that mutation.

    Hello Charles,

Nice decision by the Supreme Court!

But when it comes to the challenge of seeing what commercial interests actually DO with genetic testing, I am for the time being, more reserved about it. I'd like to see MUCH more effort being made to clearly define the parameters for the ethics involved in genetic testing.

If you want, you can look at my thread in the clinical trials forum. I am "just" a breast cancer patient expressing an interest in the topic.

Yay! I was so happy when I heard the news I started clapping! Yes and it was unanimous, too. Whoohoo!!

If Myriad had won the patent for BRCA - I would've started a class-action lawsuit against them for a defaulty product and make them issue a recall !!! ... and pay a Hefty Settlement !!!  Ha !

--so glad it was a unanimous decision against them !
