"What have I done for me lately..."
Today I started a list of things I've been doing for ME lately. The song from Janet Jackson 1986 album "what have you done for me lately..." was ringing in my head and I realized I should start documenting the things I've been doing for myself since my diagnosis just under a month ago.
I can keep track for myself but wanted to share with everyone here as well - for inspiration for myself and to help inspire others to take those all important baby steps to nurturing ourselves as well as our friends and family through this adventure called breast cancer.
I intend to keep my list updated, but here is what I have as of today:
Had my friend who is a photographer take budior photos to celebrate my sexuality and curves. I intend to have them taken again during treatment as well to serve as a reminder that I am STILL sexy and feminine.
Picked up note cards and started writing a letter a day to people I care about - AND mailing them!
Shopped with my girlfriend for a ridiculously colorful and tacky ring to wear just for fun!
Laughed so hard with a friend about the mammorgram experience her bra came unsnapped!
Taught my daughter the difference between a solemn "I love you hug" and a "HAPPY HUG of love".
Ticked a baby on his first birthday.
Finally started filling those requests for "what can I do to help?". I asked my DJ brother to create a music CD for me. My aunt to knit some hats. My kids and close friends and family to help embellish some scarves for me - regardless of how crazy they may end up.
Took a bubble bath and I wasn't even dirty!
Sat in the grass even though it makes me itchy.
Had a "two nipple" celebration dinner with my husband and two close friends upon hearing the good news about keeping both boobs.
Sat on the floor and played catch with a toddler.
Went to the drive in movie with family and friends.
Shared confetti cake with creme cheese frosting with a friend.
Ate a relish laden hot dog for the first time in 3 years.
Read a book on the recommendation of a friend - My sisters keeper.
Listened to my friend and her two kids play dominoes.
Laughed out loud with my brother till my belly hurt.
Took a friend to a scary movie as a last minute suprise.
Now its your turn! What have you done for YOU lately?

I drove for 2 hours to visit a new friend with an old friend and a grumpy GPS. I sat in the shade of a tree and just relaxed. Doing for myself is getting easier and never more important - even after all this time. You should try it!

Woke up early for work, took a leisurly bubble bath while listening to music...
I drove the long way home from work and stopped at all the beautiful pull outs to just marvel at the scenery.

What a great idea!! Well I am recovering surgery so can't do too much but I have been watching a ton of tv show that I never have time to watch, I like House show & decorating.
Also I got to encourage a friend - she said she didn't want to bother me with all that I am going through & I said Please bother me, it really helps me too!!
I love the idea about sending a card to people you care about - I have a ton of thank you cards to write that I didn't start yet.
