Congratulations websister!!!!!!

Websister, so happy for you! Nobody will fault you if you decide on that prophylactic left mastectomy. Some things are just too much for flesh and blood, and this is one of them.
Momof3, glad you have more clarity re DD. Vigilance is the best weapon we have.

Hey guys, not been posting the last couple days but reading and thinking of you all. I'm just too tired and in pain still. MO last Thursday told me its all after effects of chemo and tamoxifen. Plus because my body has been thrown into chemical menopause its basically going into a revolt. She said it should ease after a few months as my system gets used to the different levels of estrogen. I guess the benefit of a female oncologist... She explained that women are not meant to go thru meno before 50's, before that its worse for us ;-( fucking lovely eh? Something else this damn disease takes from us. I'm just so sick of it all. I want my life back, I want the old me!!
Funny story, I was in our local little grocery store (think old time country store, SMALL) which is owned and operated by a couple. Not that I'm prejudiced in anyway but it's key to the story, this couple is male gay. So, the one guy is bagging up my purchase and says, "I don't want to be rude, and don't get me wrong, you look very beautiful now. And I know the reason behind it but when your hair was short short you looked so sexy hot".
Lol, if a gay guy tells you that I guess it's time to cut your hair? Lmao.
Off to see my GP today, just to touch base. Haven't seen him since he gave me my dx a year ago.
In pockets where needed, and always have you lovelies on my mind and in my heart -
Congrats websister.x Momof3 thinking of you.x

So much to catch up on! In NYC getting MUGA after last herceptin then ct scan. Yea! Bright spot is DH is with and going for nice lunch at good Mediterranean place. Happy Tuesday all!
-
Websister I am SO happy for you-what a relief huh? If you do decide to do the prophalactic on the other side and you are going to get implants, that would probably be a great time to do it; one stop shopping plus you can get your fills on both sides at the same time. I also chose to have my ovaries out with my mx,pmx and recon so I had all 3 surgeons in there at the same time. They still joke with me about my wanting everything done at once. Now do you still have to get an MRI ?
-
websister: woo hoo - we're here for you whatever your decision.
Shianne: great story and yes if a gay guy calls you hot.... then definitely time to hit the hairdressers - ha ha !!
Hard to catch up - but in pockets if needed. Hugs and love to you all xxx

Hi all,
Like many of you its anniversary time and i am now sitting in waiting room after mammo and before seeing BS. Scanxiety at its finest. I had to move this appt up from july as my elderly dad in fla has decided to have knee replacement surgery He is 84. But mobility an issue. So i will go down for several months. Leave after a wedding of friend july 4 and surgery for him scheduled for july 17. Rehab all at home (to lessen chance of infection). I guess this is indeed the reason i am not/ cannot pursue a job. Hard part is son home for summer job and now i'll be leaving. But there is nowhere else i need to be but there with my dad!
Just let me have an all clear here now and all will be well. Thinking of you all.! -
Aruba you are a good daughter. I am kind of in the same boat with my Dad (89) living alone and having issues but atleast I live an hour away which is alot easier than states away. Since Dad doesn't know about my bc or dmx and he has had to have several heart procedures this last year, it has been pretty challenging sometimes . He probably thinks I've gotten real lazy over the last year as there were times where I couldn't lift etc so I let things go at his place that ordinarily I'd have done. I know what you mean about working, though. It would be impossible. Sorry your son gets home though and you have to leave. Maybe he'd want to take a trip to Florida? Atleast you get your scans over with sooner with your trip coming up. Hope all turns out well for you and your Dad.

Websister good to hear!
Juneau thanks for posting ur iet exercise regimen.. Makes me more confident that what I am doing.. I will soon see the scales change in my favor....I have been exercising and eating pretty good.. But since the exercise started scale has gone up a smudge ad it's discouraging to say the least but I am not going to stop.. I am motivated but sometimes do get obsessive anout it all.... Just gong to stick with it..
Luanne u r hot!
Mom of 3 good luck!
Karen u in my hoood! Too bad I out of manhattan and in the Bronx at work... Sometimes I wish I was retired haha -
"All clear..see you in a year". Now in car shedding tears. Love you guys
-

Hugs all xxx

Congrats Aruba & websister! I recently had my 6-month follow up mammogram on the remaining one, know the anxiety that brings! They always tell me the same thing, wait here, we might need more pictures, etc.
All was fine this time, "no changes, see you in 6 months" but I'm seriously considering getting it removed too. It's already had one biopsy (benign fibroadenoma) and I just always feel like I'm waiting for something bad to happen. Well, you all totally understand. Tough decision, though. -
Happy for you, Aruba! Leaving your son will be hard, but your dad needs you more. You guys who still have your dads, appreciate them every day. Mine passed away in 2006, and not a day goes by without me thinking of him, and missing him.
Shianne, I hope you will soon reach a place where you will begin to feel better. We long for the old me, but the new me will probably be a much wiser and better person . . . best wishes!
Shari, congrats on the exercise and eating. Something's gotta give! At the moment I'm walking an hour a day - that's the only exercise I'm allowed after DIEP surgery. Can't wait to get back to the gym.
A lovely day to everybody!
-
Shianne: I was in the EXACT same boat as you last November-January. Early meno, weight gain, mystery pain, and most of all depression (PTSD is more like it!). Just keep walking through it. It will pass. try to get your body moving as much as it hurts, it is the key to getting healthy again. My Onc (also a woman) said the same thing. That chemopause is nightmarish on someone who still gets a regular period. (((GENTLE BIG HUG)))
Aruba: YAY - so relieved for you. (sorry you'll miss the time with your son; you really are a great daughter!)
Liefie: I so admire you. I'd totally use DIEP surgery as an excuse not to exercise. ;-)
OK lovelies - back to work.
-
Juneau, in a way exercise is my psychiatrist, and it keeps my head straight . May get crazy without it, so can't stop - lol.
-
Thanks everyone for the support and strength. I don't know what I'd do without you!!
Aruba. HUGS!!!! You are a great daughter!! And yipppeeeeee!!!! Dancing on the table for the all clear!!
Juneau, I actually just bought a strong core and back DVD with an exercise "peanut" lol it's like one of those balls but shaped like a large peanut. The exercises are focused on the core and pretty strenuous but low impact. There is 2 10 min sessions one strengthening and the other stretching, started today and don't find the "beginner" sets too bad. I'll let you know tomorrow lmao, I could feel some burn in my tummy hamstrings and gluts. I may be a tad sore!!
You said from November to January, did you notice improvement after the first coupe months? I'm just coming up to the 2 months on it now.
Shari, you are so sweet!!! Glad to see youon here more!! You must be feeling better?
Liefie, good for you for walking an hour!! Holy crap, if I walked n hour I'd e in the next city and too tired to come home!! -
Shianne, I can't walk fast yet. My old Golden Retriever is my companion, and we motivate each other. I live in a hilly area. Going up those hills is hard work for us both, but it's a marathon, not a sprint. As long as we move for an hour, it's okay. Resting in between is also allowed - lol.
-
Also... On # 24 of 28 rads today woo hoo!
-
Aruba and Jennie - adding my congratulations on your mammos
-
Add my congrats too!
-
shianne; nov to january was where the motivation part was tough... I didn't see/feel a real change until around February I think. And by March I could tell I was stronger. I could balance on one foot for short periods of time, and I couldn't before that. My core was just gone. I go to a gym and take a mixture of classes.
Also - I signed up for the Livestrong program and my first class is in about an hour!! I'm really excited. I met another woman at my CFR (Casting for Recovery - are you all signing up!!!?!?!? even in Canada!?!?! DID I MENTION IT'S FREE!) who had completed that Livestrong program and said it was amazing... totally gave her back her body.
There are so many programs out there for us, we just have to look for them. Here are the details about CFR: (and a picture of me and Cheryl in our Weighters!)
What is a CFR retreat?
Our goal is helping one survivor at a time focus on the road to recovery.
Casting for Recovery offers free, 2½ day retreats for 14 participants, the maximum number recommended for small group dynamics as well as for educational and psycho-social benefits. Fly-fishing instruction is the means used to help women gain skills to cope with recovery from breast cancer.
We focus on quality of life issues.
The retreat program is designed to help women participate at their own pace, take time to care for themselves, engage in self-exploration, and acquire the mastery of new, fun skills—helpful tools when women return to the demands of their day-to-day lives.
-
Congrats Shari on being almost done rads!!!! We must have posted at the same time earlier.
Looking good, Juneau! -
Aruba, Websister, Momof3 - love all the great news! We are on a roll.
-
Huh! I looked at the Canadian site and last retreat schedule was for 2011 - so I emailed them. Looks like a blast.
-

-

-
