Hello, I had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago - the surgeon removed 3 different areas of tissue - and i still am very very sore. Surgeon was unable to clear the margins and needs another mammogram to see where we're at. It is scheduled for tomorrow. I am terrified of passing out from the pain! anyone btdt? any advice? Many thanks.

Could you possibly have an ultrasound or mri instead?

I would not have a mammogram until the pain from surgery is gone.

    Good luck.

Good luck!  Can you maybe take some pain meds before?

I just had my 6 month post-lumpectomy one this morning and while for the most part it was ok, there was one particular view that had me shaking and sweating and praying for it to be over - fortunately as soon as they released the compression it stopped hurting.

Hopefully they'll be as gentle as possible for you.

I am so sorry that the nurse was so rude to you. Of course she says you will get through it because she isn't the one that just had a lumpectomy and is still very sore. Hopefully you had pain meds at home to take beforehand. I don't see the issue with you getting an MRI instead of a mammogram.MRI's can see things that mammograms can't. It would have been a much better choice.

Seeing that  you were unable to get clear margins, the surgeon should have ordered an MRI for you. I see  you are probably having it done today?

I hope that it wasn't painful and if it was, I hope you stopped them and told them NO more.

Let us know how things went.

They probably won't have to compress the breast as much as in a regular mammogram so may not hurt ---I hope not!   Thinking of you and mentally holding your hand--

Hello all, thank you for your guidance and messages of support. The mammo was pretty painful but not excruciating, and you were right, it was QUICK. I thought i was done after 4 pictures but they called me back to get 3 more, and those hurt the most - my breast was purple! But after that the MRI was a piece of cake! Laughing

Now the waiting begins. I didn't get an MRI before my first lumpectomy so this is my first one, and of course i'm going straight to worst-case scenario in my crazy little mind.

I wish you all a happy and healthy weekend and thanks again.

My MRI was the easiest of all the procedures. You lie on your stomach, which is much better than your back; the tech talks to you, there is music. You have to hold your arms out in front of you (think superman flying) but that was no problem as I do a lot of weight training.

Hope yours will be as easy as mine was!
