Sorry Nancy. She's a current blogger. Post from today. She's also googleable (is that a word?). Seriously she has pages of Nutella recipes. I don't bake much and that's a good thing right now. Maybe not what you need right now since you're preparing for you upcoming appointment but couldn't resist sending it to you. There's always Christmas baking, right?

Is anyone watching the American Baking Competition on CBS on Wednesdays? My fix for the week since Dancing with the Stars is done for now.

I really don't cook with nutella, (although I did make some rugelach with it at Christmas), I just always have it or some Belgian chocolate butter on hand for that insatiable chocolate crave that I get occasionally. A couple of teaspoons of that on a cracker (or almond cookie!) Is more than satisfying.

Trying to catch up as we've been without internet for a couple days, there's SO much to read! For now, just a quick question: does anyone have a good recipe for tomato soup using fresh tomatoes? Had a bunch of tomatoes, found a recipe, but either it or I was wrong because it turned out awful! Craving a good homemade tomato soup. Thanks! Hopefully will get a chance to catch up later tonight (the repair guy totally messed up my schedule for today, but at least I can access BCO now!)

It's a really good recipe. Unfortunately, I have the most tomatoes in summer when soup doesn't appeal so much so I tend to make it in the fall with the last of the tomatoes. I wonder if it would freeze well. Probably. I'll have to give it a try.

I still want soup sometimes in summer, its a comfort food, I guess. Especially with grilled cheese sandwich! Went to a friend's house last year and her husband made the BEST homemade tomato soup! Had asked for recipe (nicely) but so response, guessing he's choosing not to share. I would think it's a form of compliment to share the recipe...

    Squash souffle sounds delicious.

Soup is winter or fall dish for me too.

Saw a photo of a tomato pie today in a magazine. It looked so good.

Dinner out tonight for dh's bday.

Carol- Happy Birthday to your DH!

2nd time- I agree tomato soup and grilled cheese yum!  I ate dinner at a friends and had the best homemade sauce a few years ago.  When I asked for the recipe I was politely told they do not share it.  Huh?  I don't get that.  I thought they were kidding at first, but no- it's a family secret.  I made the joke that I wish they had a dog I could ask  (Bush's baked beans.)

Nancy- Pork cutlets here tonight too with egg noodles and pea pods.  Yours sounds better though!

My pain is a little better.  Had a massage this afternoon- strangest massage ever.  All stretching and pulling.  I was like- can you just massage?  She explained she was trying to help.  We will see when I wake up.  Wine worked well last night so I am going for that again tonight.  Bruins are on again- praying for no OT and a solid win by the B's.  I can't stay up for a double OT again!

DH has to work tomorrow so I am hoping I am more myself and functioning.

that tomato soup recipe looks amazing- can I admit ignorance and ask what a food mill is Nancy?  Can I do  blender?

    Hi everyone!

Deb- I am so very sorry about your Husband. I know this has been a rough year for you too with your losses. I am sending you big, big hugs and just know you are in my thoughts and prayers and  sending love your way!

Susan- Sorry about your MIL Hugs! I read the post about you mentioning your DB and it made me cry.

Michelle- I was so very happy to read about your TM going down, that is such great news I am so so happy for you!!

Laurie- Hope you get your back-back to normal again, Ouch! Sorry to read about your dear friend, in case I missed it how is she doing?  And thank-you so much for posting for me I really appreciate it a lot.

Minustwo-Sorry about your recurrance havn't read every page yet only read that part so hope you are doing well!!

    Moon-Sorry about your FIL.

Bedo- Someone mentioned somthing about your post so hope you are OK

Oh my gosh I know I have left so many people out, I just started reading from where I left off some time in March and went to some of april and that took me over an hour if not more, so then I started reading from the last one backwards to try to catch up read a few pages and realized I have about another 30-40 pages to catch up on. So Im very sorry if I missed anything or anyone, I will catch up though!  I had just read about Debs news and Michelles good news and had to come here to post. I think about you all, all the time but have just been so busy on the go in so many directions it was hard to keep up and with my grief I just thought if I stop and take a break, I would have a melt down. Not that I havn't already but you all know what I mean, you have all been there.I guess just too many things at once ,made me shut down or put a wall up not sure maybe both. I stayed strong in front of people but alone I was not good. Im rambling now I know!

Chuck Is doing somewhat better from surgery he is still recovering and not sure yet if it was worth it, he said it seems his dizzyness is better or didn't know if it was wishful thinking but when he went to PT he told him that he was a lot better that before surgery so thats a plus. We drive to Portland 2 times a week just for his PT so hoping that he will improve even more. When we drove to portland to get his staples out of his head I had mentioned that he had pain in his leg so they did a US on his leg and it came back showing he had a blood clot it was small but deep and they said those were the dangerous ones and could be deadly so they admitting him right away, started him on cumiden and also he had to have 2 shots a day in his stomach with something called lovenox, He was there for 8 days I had to stay in a hotel and was only prepared for 2 days because we always stay there when we have appointments because of the long drive. But it was actually nice to have that alone time to myself at night so I could really grieve the way I wanted to. Once home he had to give himself shots for 2 weeks and then they finally took him off of that. He will continue his cumiden for as long as needed, but all in all he is getting better (knock wood)

My dad was admitted to the hospital about the same time Chuck was released so we drove the 6 hours to Grants Pass where he lives and stayed there for a week. My dad was in there for 10 days he had to have 3 blood transfusions and didn't do well on the chemo so they had to stop it. He is home and on hospice now. I call him every day if we aren't there by his side.

Well, guess thats all for now except to say sorry I have nothing but dreary news to report. But I will start coming here more often to read and post updates and maybe even a good recipe. After all this is the dinner thread and I hate to turn it into any thing different. But I miss you all so much and reading some of the post made me realize how much I missed you and all the laughs I had here. You are like family to me, and I love you all.

OH and Seaside and Lacey, we have a birthday coming up girls shall we meet for drinks?? I wish! Isn't there someone else too whose BD is in June?

Chabba I will try to give you a call this week. I hope you are doing OK!

Debbie! So glad to hear from you and welcome back! I'm so sorry about your dad, but glad that Chuck is seeing some progress.

Laurie, a food mill is a giant sieve with a handle and blade that turns and mashes out all the pulp but leaves the skin. I don't use one because the motion hurts my arthritic hand. I use a food processor, a blender probably would work too. A stick blender would work as well I imagine. In fact since I got a new one for Christmas, that's probably what I will use.

Deb, great pic! Thanks for posting! Glad you went to his graduation.

And Debbie, welcome back .......for as often as you feel up to it. Your strength shines through your post, as you face so much. And yes, we might do food on this thread, but please remember it is a place for the good and the bad as well as the tasty.

Yes Gemini Girls unite! Next Wednesday I'll be at dinner with DH and local DS2 and will raise a glass to my bco "twins". Who else are the June sisters? I'm impressed that you remembered, Debbie. My Tamox brain was not as sharp!

Actually had take-out mushroom and onion pizza with Greek salad for dinner tonight before heading to a congressional candidate's appearance at a neighbor's home. OMG, it was raining cats and dogs and three hundred people crammed into this couple's house in all of their drenchedness. Now those are devoted constituents!

Came home, dried off and watched the Bruins close out their Eastern Conference series. I still can't believe I am getting into hockey! Resisted watching it my whole adult life. For this series I made a wager with a college friend in Pgh. So we won a dinner.....and will have to drive to Pgh this Fall to collect. ;)

    Sleep tight all......

Deb- That is a fantastic picture!

Lacey- I wish I was with you eating that pizza and salad! I would have ordered the same thing- maybe throw on some fresh tomato?   You are a late owl like me- I watched the game and am still trying to unwind- ready for bed soon.  You said it well, we do the good bad and the tasty on this thread.

Maybe my weird stretch massage worked, I am kind of pain free...of course it could be the wine ;)

OMG Debbie  it is sooo good to hear from you.  So sorry you are  going through this with your Dad...it is so nice that you are available to be with him.  So glad that your DH is on the mend.  In having a conversation with friends, we decided that this getting old sh*t was for the birds....and way too time consuming. Remember to take care of yourself. We miss you here.

Stayed home last night, and I was on the couch by 7...sooo tired, I think its this dreary, rainy weather. Had some leftover grilled chicken, so made sandwhiches and that was it.  DH made comment that it would have been so much better with soup...but of course I didnt see him jumping up to assist in the making of such soup.

Tonight I will make him take me out to dinner and maybe he will think twice about complaining about his dinner...ha ha doubt it!

Carrie, I like your DH management strategy. Enjoy your dinner out! :)

I'm making stuffed mushrooms with spinach and feta to bring to a friend's tonight where we are having dinner. I hope they don't mind my big red swollen flaky allergy eyes....and I hope this is not a permanent state! Looks like I gave been on a massive crying jag. Not sure if I need to get relief from the eye doc or skin doc!?

Laurie, I saw your post right before I fell asleep last night (and shortly after I was reviewing pizza crust recipes). I ended up dreaming that you and I were busy making pizza crust in your kitchen! LOL Lord knows what the boys were up to! ;)

Glad that torrential rain has moved on.....

Carberry, next time tell DH that there is 'jump-up' soup for dinner!  :)

Hey Lacey!  I am a Gemini girl too!  My birthday is tomorrow, in fact.  Where should we meet for our lunch?  Our metaphorical lunch?  I wish we could have Japanese.  :)

Debbie, so glad to hear from you!  So sorry about your troubles.  Thinking of you.

Laurie... would say so happy your back is better, but... is it better?  At least you can watch your beloved... hockey?  I know Bruins, but I don't know what that is (lol).  Good job getting a therapeutic massage.  It is terrible to hurt that way.

2nd, I agree with Nancy.  You can't go wrong with Barefoot Contessa.  But then I saw everyone not in the mood during summer, and I thought... gazpacho?  M Batali has one I want to try with the Vitamix.

    Big hugs to everybody!  XXXX

Debbie, I know what it's like to have a dad under hospice care.

Yum on the toasted ravioli.  And the mushrooms stuffed with spinach and feta.

I had a lot of food-related activity today.  Bought andouille sausage at Sam's and store-made Italian sausage at a local supermarket and divided both kinds of sausage into portions for the rv freezer.  Yesterday I bought fresh shrimp from the local shrimp man and bagged it up, also for the rv freezer.  We have a house-sized refrigerator/freezor in the rv and try to fill it with foods we won't be able to buy in the MN supermarkets.

Picked up dh's carrot cake birthday cake from the baker.  Bought Hebrew National hotdogs, ground beef, buns, chips, etc, etc. for the noon meal tomorrow at my mother's house.  Dessert will be dh's birthday cake and ice cream.  Tomorrow morning I'll make potato salad.  We don't like our potato salad chilled.

Tonight's dinner will be Smithfield's linguine with our favorite jarred red sauce and Italian sausage.  Also a salad.  I'm too tired to labor in the kitchen.

    Carole,

Smart move on stocking up on the regional ingredients! MN has lots of it's own foods but I found many of the foods I was used to having in the NE were simply not available there!

    Deb,

Nice pic of you and your nephew! One day at a time is right! And gardening has helped me through more than one rough patch... Something about it just takes me 'away' and allows me a brief respite from whatever is troubling me. You are in my prayers!

    Debbie!!!

So happy to see a post from you!! We have missed you here! Laurie has helped to keep us non-Facebooker's informed of what's been going on with you but, it just isn't the same as hearing from you!

Glad to hear that Chuck came through surgery well and is showing improvement! May that continue!! I wish the news on your Dad was better... Sending prayers for comfort for him and strength for you. I agree with all who have posted... Do not be afraid of posting bad news or venting here... True friends are there to celebrate the good times AND help you through the bad times!

Soooo June 12th!!! I knew you and I shared that date, which is so cool! Did not know that Lacey does as well! What the heck are the odds of that?!? Wish we could all get together for real to celebrate! Does this make us triplets?

Kaara and Bobo are our other June birthdays! Happy Birthday, tomorrow, Bobo!

    Michelle,

Was so happy to see that your TM's continue to decrease! Hoping that the 'good food' days continue!!

Nancy, it wasn't the Nordie's recipe (that used canned tomatoes, I had fresh tomatoes to use). It was the creamy fresh tomato soup recipe I got from Pinterest. If you make the Nordies one, please let me know how it turns out. How did you know I've been craving toasted ravioli? Have some spaghetti sauce leftover, also thinking baked fried cheese sounds great, I could make a meal from them, add the baked parm zucchini....hmmm, it must be the cheese.

Deb, you and your nephew together - great photo! So glad you're getting out with family, so important right now.

Yesterday, made a sandwich I don't have often: cucumber slices, alfalfa sprouts and sliced Swiss on a ciabatta roll with a touch of mayo. Had some leftover rice last night so turned that into fried rice with lots of carrots, corn, peas, and green onions; served with a chicken teriyaki kabob I picked up at the store.

Today, went with some friends to a yoga class for charity event. After, a couple of us went to Panera, got my yummy tomato soup (maybe there's a copy cat recipe on Pinterest?) with half a BBQ chicken salad. Yum! Should have only eaten half but didn't. Feel stuffed! No dinner for me! If DH wants dinner there's jump-ups (love that term!), I was planning on breaded, pan-fried cube steak sandwiches, he can make them if he wants.
