Hello, I had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago - the surgeon removed 3 different areas of tissue - and i still am very very sore. Surgeon was unable to clear the margins and needs another mammogram to see where we're at. It is scheduled for tomorrow. I am terrified of passing out from the pain! anyone btdt? any advice? Many thanks.

    Hi Ealga,

Sorry you have to go through another surgery and more procedures.

I'm sure it's different for everybody, but I had to have a mammogram for a second opinion about three weeks out from a very large excisional biopsy. It wasn't that bad although I was very scared beforehand and made sure to tell the technician to be gentle.

Hopefully your procedure will also go smoothly. Have they talked about possibly doing an MRI to better gauge where the involved area might be?

    Sending good thoughts,

    Deb

thank you deb. yes, i have an MRI directly following the mammogram today. my surgeon told me to take one of the oxycodones she gave me post surgery before the mammo. i may do it, even though i really hate the way i feel on that drug. but i think i'll hate the pain more!

I'll be thinking of you & sending good thoughts. I know just how you feel about the pain meds. All the more reason, I guess, to drink lots of liquids to flush everything out of your system afterward. Just remember to slow breath (until you have to holdyour breath) during the mammogram and remember that it will be over quickly!

I also had a mammo about 3 weeks after surgery. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, even though I was extra sore because of a nasty post op infection.

Good Luck! Hope everything goes smoothly.

Hello all, thank you for your guidance and messages of support. The mammo was pretty painful but not excruciating. I thought i was done after 4 pictures but they called me back to get 3 more, and those hurt the most - my breast was purple! But after that the MRI was a piece of cake! Laughing

I should hear from my surgeon today or tomorrow on results of both tests. I'm very nervous about the MRI results because i hear with DCIS is can open pandora's box with a lot of red flags that may be something concerning, or not. So we will see.

I wish you all a happy and healthy week and thanks again.
