I had unilateral mastectomy and SNB and immediate reconstruction for what was thought to be only DCIS (two areas of it). Pathology turned up 3.5 mm of invasive in the breast and 1 mm micrometastasis in the sentinel node. I will be put on Tamoxifen for a year or two starting in September "just so I can rest easy." MO said no chemo, no oncotype.

What are the basic things I should know about how to follow up and monitor my situation? My doctors have not told me anything about what my strategy should be. I am so afraid of recurrence, or some thing happening in the other breast.

Should I have more than annual mammos? On Both the real and the reconstructed breast? What about sonograms? What about a PET scan? I feel like I should have a plan!

    Hi "40",

Sorry you have this disturbing or at least unexpected finding.  Have you thought about getting a second opinion on the treatment plan?

40 - Since you had IDC you may get more responses if you post on the IDC board.   Most of the discussion on this DCIS board deals with non-invasive cancer diagnosis and treatment, followup, etc..    Good Luck.
