Bone Met's Question
Hello - Happy early mothers day!
I have been having lower pelvis pain for sometime...3+ months - it's a dull pain and i don't feel it all the time, mostly when I am bending down (picking up all the freaking kids toys). Does bone mets present itself only in certain situations (like bending over) or is it a dull/ongoing pain no matter what you are doing or both?
My MO has brushed it off and wanted to wait until I was a month out from chemo to schedule any scans (he's anti scan). I see him on Tuesday, then have to wait for the order to be approved. I had a bone scan in November that was clear.
Thanks!

Ok, just my experience but the mets in my right hip started as a dull ache and stayed no matter what. I had it for two months before I went for scans. I was going overseas in Oct 2010 and my hip started in Aug, not too bad and more like muscle strain. I didn't want to know if it was a problem before I went. My choice, and when I came back in Nov I had scans and there they were. Delay made no real difference to treatment and rads started Dec.
Ask your onc and ask him again if your not happy.
My mets in my left hip didn't hurt at all and my initial one in my spine didn't either. BTW mets were in the left hip at the same time as my mets in right. One side hurt one didn't.

Thanks for the response, hoping other add their experiences.

My experience is similar to Moira's. the mets in my spine started as a dull ache ( felt like I'd been gardening for a whole day) that didn't go away. My neck felt like I'd been in a draught. That ache didn't go away either. However at the same time I also had a met in my left hip that wasn't painful at all.
Hope this helps.

Just had very severe left hip pain so bad unable to stand or move, lasted almost a week. Now have pain under control and was diagnosed with bursitis but doesn't have answer about the lost of strength and movement in left leg so ordered a NCV testing. Per Dr doing nerve testing some nerve damage and was very concerned about my cancer in 2006, Scared and very worried. Family dr was to have called me back today and hasn't. Has anyone had similar expierence? I do have a history of arthritis and spine problems but this attack was totally different than any prior episode.

HI, I had a similar problem with my leg, weakness, pain. It actually felt like I broke my hip. It turned out to be a herniated l4/l5 indenting the spinal cord. I needed spinal cord decompression and discectomy. I'd encourage your docs to run an MRI of lumbar area. Good luck , hoping you are pain free soon.

My bone scan came back clear but I have a call into my MO to understand what we do about the pain, since it's possibly muscular.

Thank you for the reassurance, MRI to be next Tues or Wed.

MRI was clear of mets but did show 3 pinched nerves.
