Lynda- I had the pain on the inside of my elbows elbows badly after surgery, too. It was actually my greatest pain the first few days! I was told it was from positioning during the 10 hours of surgery. It is much better now two weeks later but it is still uncomfortable if I extend all the way.

LyndaMarie, so good to hear you are doing so well! Did not have SIEA, but it sounds pretty interesting, and it's just amazing what the docs can do these days. Playing the violin and conducting with those TE's would have been very hard, especially in the beginning. Mine did not really bother me except that it was rock hard, but it was nice to get it removed with DIEP. Bet you felt like a mom with twins with those new girls covered in a warm blankie all the time - lol. I had the same. No heating of the room, but the new baby had to be kept warm and toasty. Happy healing!

Sherry: so sorry for all you are going through. divorce/separation is hell.  No two bits about it. I have no specific words of support except ((HUGS))

Brussel Sprouts:  hubby has always hated them.  Wont even make the kids eat them.  AWESOME recipe, they now all eat them, with glee:  1 lbs raw brussel sprouts, 1/2 lb of bacon, 1/2 medium onion, 4 TBS butter.  Cook the bacon to crispy, remove.  Cooked the chopped onion in the bacon grease, with the butter until golden brown, add the brussel sprouts (cut each in half). 8-10 minutes.  Salt and pepper to taste, add the bacon back in and serve warm.

I am not a fan of brussle sprouts-ever. But have found a new recipe to eat them as well. I actually take them apart and do them in a wok with olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper. I like them a little crunchy too.

PS update.  PS removed all bandages, checked all wounds and gave me the all clear to bathe, shower, etc...  Drains will remain until next wednesday as they are still flowing at a high rate, up to 100 ml per day! but, it is all tissue fluid, so good. He did tell me to slow down and be a couch potato, apparently I'm doing too much if I have that much fluid.  Hubby just shook his finger at me and said "see....." True.

So, I have resigned myself to the next 7 days of 'get me a glass of water, bring me a, bring me b, take away this/that, etc..'  I have chosen a TV show with 3 seasons in the bag to watch, Downton Abbey.  I have all seasons and will be watching back to back.

He also confirmed got a lot of good transplant tissue, showed me where he will do Stage II lift and push together (so the boobies will no longer be in my armpits), and some of the nip tuck stuff, too.  He sounded really optimistic.  The incisions look great.  Asked me to keep wearing the binder, go ahead and wash it, wear a tank top or something under it to protect my skin, and did I mention I can now bathe?  He said I can wear my own soft cotton sports bra, instead of the nasty mesh surgical bra that makes me itch.

So, tonight, warm/hot shower, shave legs, wash hair, scrub it all, fresh clean undies, cotton bra and loose PJ top.  I'm sleeping in my own bed and should finally get a good nights sleep.

Kiss I will feel like a girl.

Speaking of drains- had one freaky incident where I thought one of two things were inside the drain!

    1. Part of something from surgery that was left inside my body (and now telling about it - how the heck something the size of my pinky finger last digit made it through the tubing should have made me think not)(but pain meds play tricks with your mind )

    2. Someone's last digit of their pinky finger minus the nail and no blood.

Luckily PS gave me his cell and email address. It was a Sunday a.m. - of course. Can only imagine his reaction seeing the JP drain bulb with this foreign object in it with my inquiry as to what it was? Could it be from surgery???

His reply: Looks like the inner part of the drain that prevents back wash back into the drain. Somehow it got unconnected and truly crazy looking floating around in their with all the drain sludge!

I'm sure he thought twice about giving me a means to contact him on a Sunday a.m.

So after talking to my docs assistant, I will be headed to the lab to be sure I don't have Hep A. Fricken awesome. Apparently the vaccine is a deterrent not a guarantee. Sigh...please pray mom of us have Hep A!!

Oh, I also asked the PS if it could be part of my insides!!!!

I bet we all could write a pretty interesting book with dumb things we ask Drs!

Sbelizabeth I was thinking how cool that your son is a radiologist and will now have compassion plus for his patients with bc!

As a 20 year old mother to be of my first child - I called the Dr to find out if the baby would drown when I took a bath if I went into labor - they did not have home births in tubs back then - good thing we don't go to PS for the first visit with notes from previous Drs telling them what kind of goober I was!!!

I too had that pain on my elbows as soon as I woke up from surgery. It was the only part of my body that would hurt. I couldn't bent my arms and was told that it was from being on surgery for over ten hours with my arms at a 90 degree angle. The pain went away within a week or so.

Made some tilapia tonight for dinner and the kids got some spinach to go with it!

SheChirpie, enjoy that first shower and hairwashing tonight!

Dvygirl and others who have eaten Costco frozen berries, I hope you will all be fine. Just thanking my lucky stars that I did not buy some from Costco recently.

Catie, eeuw on that drain story! Must have been upsetting to say the least . . .

Goldie, good luck with your PS choice. Do what feels right for you.

Off to make sbelizabeth's farty-smelly Brussel sprout dish - lol.

Ditto on the elbows. Man that Hurts! Was the only thing I felt when I woke up. Why do my arms hurt like this??? Makes me wonder what they do while we're knocked out lol.

Dvygrl- we got your back (covered in prayer).

As far as drains go.....I grow weary of seeing my body fluids. Really getting to me today. Sigh. And I have until at least the 14th. They are necessary evil...they are necessary evil....the are necessary evil....repeat as needed.

I am all crampy in my midsection today.....too much sitting at the sewing table??

Heavenschild, Sherbab and Sweetpickle - how are you doing? Thinking of you!

Bailey, I'm holding my spoiled Siamese cat, Suki. Must get a better picture - this one is really not very clear.

Just popped a Costco chicken into the oven. Hope it's okay . . . lol.

SheChirple - you are gonna have so much fun tonight.  You will probably wear yourself out.  Even though you are planning 7 days of laying low, do walk a bit.  Maybe slowly around the block?  Just to keep all systems moving.

Goldie - are you okay?  Can we help you at all with your PS problem?

Made a quinoa salad tonight with strawberries, spinach and feta.  It was so delish I forgot there were veggies in there.

Catie- no I finished the last one (I did 2 t-shirts and 2 sleeveless blouses) around dinner time and could see that her mom was at her house so figured I would go over tomorrow while the kids are at school. I hope she likes them and they are helpful.

Liefie - very nice, love the name Suki. We have a mini-dachshund (Bella) and an elderly black lab / golden retriever mix (Moses).

Shechirple - best. shower. ever. I bet!

Comforting to hear that the arm thing is normal!

SheChirple - enjoy your evening!! I have been wanting to watch Downton Abbey. I have heard great things about it. Maybe that will be on my agenda over the weekend. My DH is taking all three kids to Cub Scout Family Camp and I am crashing at home by myself. Peace and Quiet.... Heaven... Maybe I will figure out getting DA for over the weekend...

Dyvgrl - prayers for no Hep! I have frozen strawberries and blueberries from costco [for my near daily smoothies] but no mixed berries.

Catie - that would totally freak me out!

This thread makes me crave brusselsprouts. I love them.

I think I am going to get my neighbor to take me for a walk. She is quite athletic and agrees to walk me like you would walk an old dog, slowly and not too far. She walked me through chemo last summer too!

MartyJ, that is sweet.  I think I've got it covered.  I just can't decide which one to go with.  I am going back to see the original PS on July 17th, and by then I should be able to make an educated decision.  It was my BS that really screwed me up, and there is no going back now.  I just have to find the right PS to get me through it.  Now, I have two...lol.  Which one to choose...I don't know yet...

I love hearing about your pets. We have a very old (almost 11!) English Bulldog named Boudreaux. He gives us so many smiles. Even on my worst day, I know I look better than him ;)

Lynda- what a nice neighbor to have.

Although I am going to be a couch potato for a week, understand that for me, that means spending at least 1/2 of my time on the couch.  If I could sit still through a hour episode of anything, I would not have any problems.  I just can't!

It's a good thing I love spending time with my hubby.  He has not left my side since I came home from the hospital. 24/7.

Wow, I just can't seem to keep up anymore. If you miss a day you have three pages to read. 😁

Sherry- I can't believe what you have been and are going through. Hopefully we are a great support to you. I agree with letting the judge know what you have been through and who hasn't been there for support. ((Hugs))

Bailey- I am so sorry about your friends. Your sewing project is very thoughtful and your friend will love it. I am watching two hummingbirds fighting over the feeder as we speak. I love them too!

Goldie- go with your 💜! If they are both skilled. Good bedside manners are a real plus. The you can relate. Good Luck with your decision.

    Question for you ladies:

For those that have had a DIEP and a previous MSX surgery, was it harder to recover from the longer diep surgery?  I'm going this friday and still freaking out about how long it takes to do the surgery.  Will I feel different than I did when I woke up from MSX?  Thanks!

Thanks for the shares. I'm getting frustrated. Have called the PS office two days in a row and no return call. Tomorrow is D Day. I will call often until the squeeky wheel gets heard. I do have some questions, and now a bit paranoid by the no response. Still dealing with my one drain. Hate it, but trying to focus on its function in helping me heal.

I made a mistake today. I was so house bound that I asked a friend to drop me by our business for a few minutes. That went well. Then the body shop returned my own car to my office. My husband said he thought I was strong enough to drive slowly home - 8 miles on a side country road. I asked another employee to follow me home, and good thing I did. My car didn't make it! Apparently, they didn't fix what was wrong when it went to the shop. So, there I sat on the side of the road, thinking how insane I was to act normal physically days after my MX. My drain was also right there with me. My friend took me home; my hubbie called a tow truck. So, I learned a lesson - move slowly and don't overdo it the first week after surgery. Whew, wish I could've just heard and believed someone tell me I couldn't be normal in less than a week. Now I know. So, just a word from my experience: be gentle with yourself post-op; feeling better does not mean jumping into routine. Not for me...it's a slow process, and I must really learn and respect that especially with the DIEP coming up Monday morning!

sweetpickle, I believe the diep flap done after mastectomy is no picnic, but nothing like having it with the mx at the same time.  I hear women go home with no pain meds.  I know you are going to be fine, and so happy when it's over.  You will be whole again.  Who could ask for more than that? All our thoughts are with you.  Hang in there.

Mx alone (uni) was easier for me than DIEP. I have had two c-sections, gall bladder removal, mx and hysterectomy/oopherectomy and DIEP. DIEP the hardest of those. But just for a few days.....and you can do anything for a few days!

I also suspect part of the difficulty for me was the amount of narcotics they were giving me....and antinausea drugs to fight the narcotic nausea....I was just strung out. I refused narcotics after 2nd c section and did great....kind of wished I would've tried going without this time....might've felt better sooner.

I am only two weeks out and I would do it again tomorrow! LOVE the results so far...feels so good to look down and see cleavage!!!!

You are going to do great!
