I started TCH on Thursday 5/30 and today I have been in excruciating pain from muscle and leg cramps from head to toe. My scalp is extremely sore and I'm having shooting pains down my legs and arms. Has anyone experienced this? I called dr who told me to take my pain pills, but it isn't helping. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi ProfMagic - Sorry you are having the pain. Did you get a nuelesta shot the day after TCH? This can cause bone and muscle pain in some people. Taking over the counter Claritan-24 the day of the shot and for a week or so after it helps with the pain. Not sure if that is whats going on but it may be. I had my 2nd TCH on 5/30 and have not experienced what you are going through.....hope the pain meds help! Let us know how your doing and ((((hugs)))) to you!

Take the Claritin (not Claritin D) an hour prior to your injection, and for several days afterward.  Some find that Aleve provides decent pain relief from both Taxotere and Neulasta bone pain.  The first injection of Neulasta expands the marrow caused by the stimulation to produce extra white cells.  The antihistamine in Claritin is thought to counteract the edema in the marrow caused by this stimulation, thus relieving at least some of the pain.  Also, subsequent injections of Neulasta may not cause as much discomfort as the first because the marrow is not expanding for the first time.  Kind of like a broken in pair of shoes or jeans.  Good Luck!

SpecialK thank you for the info! The dr called in Tramadol today because it is not getting any better. My joints and legs are still cramping/spasming like crazy and I'm in a lot of pain. I hope the 2nd one isn't as bad. I would like to know how much the shot actually works! If it is even worth all this pain!!

prof - your answer as to how well it works should come with the CBC that is done either a week after you receive it, or just before your next chemo.  If your WBC is in the normal range it means that you may not need the Neulasta - or that it is working great!
