How painful is an endometrial biopsy?

Options

Anyone have any experience with these?  I've got an abnormal U/S, so this is next.  Don't want to go in and get blindsided.

Tell me what to do to get through this as painlessly as possible.

Hugs,

Bobogirl

I had a little cramping when I had mine done. They just go in and scrape a little. The weird part was dilating the cervix. That was a little uncomfortable but not painful.

Hello Bobo girl - sorry you are facing a biopsy.  My experience was very similar to sewingnut's.  I wasn't too bad at all - just a little cramping - I thought it wasn't much worse than a Pap.  Good luck and hope you get good news.

Sorry to hear you have to go thru this...I've had 2 endometrial biopsies...unfortunately I had alot more cramping. I checked with my GYN and she told me to take Motrin 1 -2 hours before the procedure to help with the pain and cramping, your doctor might let you take something?

I had a few. I didn't think it was much worse than Pap smear, but for a few added seconds of Ouch. I have more pain getting an IV, I'd say. Your doc should walk you through it. I make sure I have a pad on, too.

i had motrin before the procedure and again just mild cramping, the procedure itself was a little uncomfortible just slightly worse than a pap(never been pregnant)

All good advice.  Just checking to see if a Valium was in order, since I don't have any.  I've never had one, in fact.  But I've had some biopsies during which I was totally sober, and that wasn't a good thing.

I've had a couple, found them very doable.  Yes, there's cramping, in my case, pretty strong, but the whole thing just lasts a minute and when it's over, it's over--no lingering cramps.  I imagine I took ibuprufin or tylenol or some such (but not aspirin) in preparation.  You could ask your gyn how many of his/her patients take something in advance, and what it might be.

When it's over, it's over?  That sounds good to me.  :)
