ksm and LuvLuLu, thank you for the encouragement!  I am trying not to borrow trouble yet also not get ahead of myself with making firm plans.  That's kind of a hard balance.  I also expect to do ovarian suppression once I get rolling with Tamoxifen, which could be another batch of side effects.  One day at a time--not something I'm good at!  I really appreciate your positive words.

Thanks RunFree, ksm & LuvLuLu.  I'd been staring at my prescription and just decided to jump right in yesterday.  One pill down (1824 to go, but I think I'll stop counting). And I went for a brisk walk and have a plan to get back into running without getting injured.  It feels so good to be moving forward again!

LuLu and Groovgirls - run to remember half marathon this weekend right?  Good luck!

Dallas - hope you are healing well.

I have a confession to make.  I was supposed to just WALK this morning, but I just couldn't do it.  I'm only a week past surgery and I know I'm supposed to wait two weeks, but I just couldn't help it.  I went slow and tried not to bounce to much.  Wore two sports bras too.  I was really just going so I could start getting acclimated to the heat.  After not being out there for a week, it really felt GOOD!

OK, I feel better.  Now if I only had some chocolate.....

Of COURSE you had to do it, Dallas!!  Just be careful and listen to your body (not always easy for runners because we get that endorphin rush going that tells us everything's just great).

And now . . . go for the chocolate!!!

Groovygirls, Good Luck tomorrow!  I just picked up my race packet. Looking forward to it, who cares if it's dismal and dreary??  Have fun, that's what counts.

I was thinking of Roan and First Call today. One Run Boston arranged an event where nonfinishers were allowed to run the last mile and cross the finish line. Roads were closed to traffic, lots of crowd support. I ran holding hands with all my nieces and my daughter. DH was at the finish line with all the race signs family made for me. It was a remarkable morning- I wish I could post pictures

Roan and Firstcall- you were there

Good for you, groovygirls.  That must have been very emotional.  I just saw a news story about it:  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1651566-boston-marathon-victims-gather-to-finish-last-mile?hpt=hp_t2

Well, I finished well within my goal time, so I'm quite happy. It was such a fun run and I love the city of Boston. The crowds were great.  My son's goal was 2 hours - this being his first half-marathon - and he finished in 1:45, so he's pretty happy.

I did the Boston's Run To Rmember Sunday as well. I changed to the 5 mile run- I have not been running much since Boston- my heart has been broken. So glad I changed because it was so cold and rainy! I thought the best crowd support was from the people standing outside the homeless shelter! They were great cheering everyone on! I loved the special bib numbers to honor Sean Collier- everyone wore 179 on their back. The whole morning was quite amazing

Oh, groovy, I know.  It was an amazing day. And you're right about the people outside the shelter.  Also, all the police officers up on the bridges looking over and cheering us on.  And seeing Sean Collier's cruiser Cry it was so touching.  And all the cruisers outside of MIT. Wonderful experience.

Hi all -- I fought back the grumpy jetlagged voice in my head and put on my gear for a run this morning. I could feel the voice going away just putting the stuff on, although I really did have to badger myself to start dressing. I got out along the seawall at Tokyo Bay this morning (alongside Tokyo Disney Resort). Just 4k because I've been delinquent on my conditioning, but had a good-for-me <7:30/km pace and HR manageable (180, but quick recovery). It is humid here, and I was glowing red when I got into the shower, but felt great all morning. My Nike+ will have a nice map for a souvenir. I hope to run downtown Tokyo tomorrow or Friday, then Osaka over the weekend, Singapore next week, and Bergamo Italy the week after that. Collecting me some Nike+ souvenirs!

So great to read the Boston updates. Our hearts really are with everyone who can be there (and who was there.)

Goldlining, I'd somehow missed that your were on a trip . . . I hope you get in some amazing runs during your travels.  What a cool idea, to keep your Nike+ maps as souvenirs!

Luvlulu and groovygirls, what a moving run.  Thanks so much for sharing some of the details so that we could all picture it.

Still plugging away with miles and workouts here, contemplating my next big race.  I may jump into a 5K on Sunday (it's in the park close to me, the loop my feet know so well), but don't have any goal races on the horizon.

OK, back in the saddle.  I've been lax about running since the HM April 28 - had a nasty truncal LE flare that took 6 visits with the LE therapist over 3 weeks to start to get under control.  Then I got a nasty cough/sinus thing.  So, May was a waste, but I'm starting again for June.

I signed up for a 5K to get me going again.  Firstcall - put me down for the Nick Adenhart 5K on June 8 in Williamsport, MD.  For those of you who are baseball fans, Nick Adenhart was a promising young pitcher for the Anaheim Angels who was killed by a drunk driver in 2009.  He was from Williamsport, and his family set up a foundation in his name to benefit local youth baseball.  The 5K is one of the foundation's fundraisers. It's a wonderful small town run - the whole town gets into it.  The run starts at the HS baseball field where he played, runs through the town, and even runs through the cemetary past where he's buried.  It's a privilege to be a part of it.

Just had had my one year mammogram and it was clear.  To celebrate, decided to train for a half marathon.  Planning on doing the Baltimore Running Festival in October.  I am up to 6 miles and have a ways to go but am going to go for it!

The bad news is that the tamoxifen is causing weight gain and I am not happy about it!

Groovy - wow - very impressive!

Belinda - what a great way to celebrate 1 year.  I celebrated 5 years by training and running my first HM in DC last month.  The folks on this thread are great sources of information and encouragement - they were really helpful!

    Yes, congrats Belinda!

Goldlining, thanks for the travel updates - keep them coming.  We can see the world through your feet : )

Everyone else, love the updates and the reports and the goal races!  I'm happy to report that I'm getting re-acquainted with running and it feels great!  Taking it slow, a little bit a time, as I build my base back up.  Enjoyed a beautiful short outing this morning before work...birds were making their presence known and the cicadas were already sing- sing- singing away.   It was lovely.

What a beautiful description, lovestorun!  I'm headed out shortly, hope my run is half as lovely as yours.

Natsfan, I love races in memory of someone who was much loved.  There are a few that I do - but your Adenhart run (going past the ballfield and the cemetery both) sounds especialy moving.

Groovygirls, yay!  Sure, you're crazy to do both MCM and NYCM, but who cares?  I'll be out on 4th Ave in Brooklyn to cheer for you.  (Are you in for sure?  I wasn't sure what last year's cancellation was going to do to entries this year.)

Well, I just got accepted into the ING NYC Marathon! Firstcall if you could put me down for that on Nov.3rd, that would be great. I have been dealing with small injuries for the first half of this year, so I am really hoping I can do this! Is it possible to do 2 marathon's with-in 5 weeks? Call me crazy:)

Way to go, eulabt -- I'll be out cheering for you, too.  (Have you run NYC before?  It's such a great race, I look forward to it every year whether I'm running it or not.)

You'll love it, eulab.  Starting on the Verrazano Bridge is a total thrill.  (Depending on which color start you're assigned to, you may be on either the upper or lower level.  I've done both - I thought the lower level wouldn't be as exhilarating, but I was wrong.)  After you take in the view from the bridge, the crowd support when you hit the streets of Brooklyn is amazing.  (I find the Manhattan crowds in the second half of the race a little annoying, but that's just me.  They will definitely cheer you on.)  And Central Park is a beautiful place to finish.

Just came in from a 6am run around Chuo Park, Shinjuku Tokyo - adjacent to the Tokyo Municipal Government building and near the Hilton where I'm staying. Perfect weather - 19C and dry after a drizzly day yesterday. Able to wear my favourite sleeveless Lulu running dress over the compression capris. Most comfortable running outfit I have. There were T'ai chi herds, people who appear to live under tarps in the park, and dogwalkers out as well as some other runners so it was surprisingly populated at 6:00 am. Ran two rounds around and through the park for a total 4k. Still keeping a 7:30/km pace at the end and bursts of up to a blazing 6:30 (ha) but I'm going to walk 7km to Ginza later so that was enough. Again, had to fight the voice but it shut up when it saw the shoes.

Funny development, I hooked up my Nike+ and headed out for a brisk walk hoping to get to the big neon wall you see in the movies. Well, I must have been close but never managed to find it. However, I ended up walking a total of 18.2km before my iPhone battery was dead, and was wandering quite lost around the University of Tokyo for another 2km or so, before finding the subway back to the hotel. So an unintentional half-marathon walk for me :-D

Covered Bridges Half Marathon this morning. It was wicked hot and humid. I quit thinking about time after mile 4. Walked a lot. Had a nice chat with a woman in her 40s who said she does this every year as a check on her fitness. Finishing on her feet means she's fine. I'll take it:-)

Just thought I'd check in as it's been a while.

No races for me, but still running ... between 3-7 miles 3x a week.   Distance depends on who I'm with (longer runs when I'm by myself) and the weather ... it's been miserably hot and humid this week so haven't felt like pushing the distance.

I had thought about doing a 10K next weekend, but it turns out my daughter has a softball tournament that day so I can't.   I did run 7 miles for a new personal best last weekend (before it got so hot!) so I feel like at least I know I *could* have done the 10K if I was free!

I have my first post-treatment mammogram coming up on Friday and to be honest I'm a bit nervous about it!
