Terrible joint pain.. Side effect?
Does anyone have joint pain as a side effect from Tamoxifen? I have been taking Tamox for a week now. Last night I had an onset of pain in my right knee. When I went to bed it was worse. I am awaken by the pain now... 4:30am! It feels like someone is pulling my knee cap off from the top. It hurts to bend and tender to touch. I cannot believe how much it hurts! I do not recall doing anything lease to hurt it.
I will be calling the doctor as soon as possible. But for now, thought I would throw this out to you all. I do not know how bad a joint pain can get from this drug or if this is just some goofy unrelated pain! Frustrated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dea!
Definitely call your doctor for advice too, but the main Breastcancer.org site does list bone pain as a side effect of this drug on the Tamoxifen page. There are some tips to help manage this side effect, too, on the Bone and Joint Pain side effect page.
We hope this helps!

tamox hurt my joints and bones too. My thigh bones would throb with pain. I stopped taking it after 11 months and then it took about another year for the pain to go away. J9
PS: my doc insisted that the pain wasn't from tamox though.

Hi Dea- I have been looking for a thread that deals with the side effect from tamoxifen. Saw my onc on Tuesday and he said when I am done with rads he is going to put me on tamoxifen until I have my hysterectomy. I asked him what the SE's are and he told me bone pain is one of them. He knows I had a terrible time with taxol and almost quit chemo. He did say however not everyone gets the bone pain and I am really surprised he was soooo honest about it. I was a whiner.
When the pain in my legs and feet got really bad from taxol, I would soak in the bath tub with the hottest water that I could take.
Gentle hugs -
Thanks for the responses. I called my onc this morning. Had an ultrasound on my leg to rule out blood clots. Turns out I have water on the knee. So I have to see an orthopedic doctor next. No thoughts as to why this is today. Just another little bump in the road I guess.
