Proton Radiation??
Comments

Hi, I just went in for my last AC treatment this past Friday and needless to say I'm suffering from chemo brain. I now need to make a decision about radiation. I had a bilateral mastectomy with immediate implants (no tissue expanders) in June. At that time my PS mentioned that he wanted me to meet with a RO who specializes in proton radiation and is running a clinical trial, http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01340495. When I was first diagnosed I met with a regular RO. Now I am supposed to make appointments with both to try and determine what course to take. No one has really explained to me why I should choose one over the other and what the differences are. I am mostly worried about my implant failing during radiation and potential heart problems since it will be on my left side. Anyone else have experience with proton radiation and had to make this decision?

Here is the link to the clinical trial, http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01340495

Why do I feel like I am the only person involved in this trial?
-
I participated in it. Inbox me.

Hi Sisi
Can you tell us more about the proton therapy and benefits over radiation?
Do they take double mastectomy patients in the trial?
Thanks!

Hello,
Just wanted to check in and say hello! Did any of you girls decide on the proton radiation? If so, how are you holding up. Hope everyone is well :-) -
Can anyone who participated help clear out some qs for me?
I called and was told to make a regular apt first, is that how you did it?
A week later receptionist told me there is no reason for me to see an onco so I am back to square 1(
Is there any time constraint to participate, I finished chemo in Dec 2012? -
Winter flower are you being treated at the MGH in Boston, Ma? This is where the clinical trial is at. You would have to qualify and go through the radiation department.

Hello ladies,
Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. -
Like Sisi, I did protons as well. I just finished last week and the experience was really good--and hopefully able to save me from problems with my heart/lungs down the road. If someone has questions about this trial, I'm happy to chat--just send me a PM.
