Hi. I just turned 37. Got diagnosed with IDC triple positive. Lymph node involvement. During my MRI and exam there is thickening of the skin showing up. Had a biopsy that was negative but I know that happens. Can thickening of the skin be anything else besides IBC? I am scared to death. I have two small children who need their mommy.

My wife has IBC at age 36.  IDC is the pathological description of the tumor, IBC is the clinical behavior of the tumor.  The skin thickening is suspicious for IBC but it all depends on how your MRI and clnical history fit together (discrete nodule, skin changes suggestive of skin lymphatic obstruction).  For IBC the consensus is to start aggressive chemotherapy up front before other intervention.  If you are node positive you are looking at chemo regardless, but having IBC may change the chemotherapy approach somewhat.

If you only have localized nodes that is actually good from an IBC standpoint, I wish we could have caught it earlier.  IBC is aggressive and almost always in the nodes when clinically diagnosed.
