My father passed away Thursday May16th, the second day of Shavuot at 12:50pm.  My husband and I were with him at the time of his passing.  The funeral is Friday the 17th.  We will sit Shiva at my house. My grandfather passed away 25 years ago on the 2nd day of Shavuot....my mother will have the same yarztheit for her husband as she has for her father.   Karen

I'd like to share some good news from my family:  my son's bar mitzvah this past Shabbat and my graduation on Monday with an MSW (Masters in Social Work) from the Rutgers School of Social Work.

Last year at this time, I was 6 days PFC.  What a difference a year makes.  Wishing you all nachas and all good things now and forever.  Joan

Mazel Tov on your son's bar mitzva and on getting your MSW.  I have an MSW , too.  My nephew went to Rutgers (BA in psychology).

So true. Many boards are really negative or kinda downers. But on the other hand sometimes it hard not to be. When you consider all the stuff we've gone through, are going through, and face to face it becomes intense.

Doragirl, glad to have you here and mazel tov to you too. As many here know, I am from the Bronx. I grew up assuming that there were few, if any Jews, outside larger cities. I was surprised, when I lived in Texas, to find Jews there ( Shabbat Shalom, y'all). Even though I know better now, it still surprises me to find Jews outside of metropolitan areas. So my first thought when I saw your post was, Jews in Stockton? I laughed because my younger dd is getting married in two weeks to a nice Jewish boy from Dublin, CA. We are all over the place! I'm in San Jose, so we're practically neighbors. Take care.

Ptdreamers-you did? Wow! I was named and confirmed at Temple Israel. My babies were named there too and the bar mitzvah. We are very lucky to have such an amazing Rabbi and educator. Was the Rabbi who married you Rabbi Rosenberg?

Shava Tov.....today marks the end of the sheloshim for my father.....tonight, I'm having a really tough time with it....just want to have a good cry (but I can't cry)....not sure if tomorrow being Father's Day has anything to do with it, or what.....have a lot of thoughts running through my head... guilt,  sadness and lots of feelings that I can't explain....trying to figure out how to move on for the rest of the "yud bet chodesh.....his first yartzheit is June 5th....so the year is really more than a year on the secular calendar......this is harder than I could have ever imagined!!!!

Karen - I hope you're feeling a little better. I've never lost a parent, so I can't offer any real advice. But you're in our thoughts.

Joan, Rachel and Dora....thanks.....I've been doing better the past week or so. Father's day was extremely hard in the morning...I just cried...but as the day went on it got better. We had MOm over for a cook out and grilled steaks....she was thrilled!!!!    Last week, Mom and I met with an attorney regarding Dad's will (which I had read many times) and I thought it would be tough but it wasn't.  My parents have a contract on their condo in Florida and all the paper work is coming to me.  It seems, when I am doing "business" things its okay.  Its the other stuff that is hard.  I didn't go see Mom today (only the 2nd time since they moved here) but I talked to her on the phone twice.  In some ways, I think it is good for mom, but I don't want to slack off.  Tomorrow we have to get the papers for the condo notarized.

On the 4th we are going to visit my DD and SIL in Toronto for 4 days, then to Montreal to see my uncle and aunt (MOm's brother)...we will also see one of my cousin's (her mom was Dad's oldest sister and she passed away 3 1/2 weeks before Dad).  Mom doesn't really want to see her other cousins, so that is okay by me.  Mom hasn't really travelled the past couple years because of Dad.  I'm looking forward to it, yet I am also nervous about it.....I used to travel with mom but thats been more years than I can remember....maybe before kids and my oldest is27!!!
