OK did my chemo had my MX now one Dr opinion says he recommends radiation to right breast BC I have 15% reoccurence risk and radiation can lower that to less than 5%...... so if I do I can NOT have implant surgery has to be flap surgery! So have any of you decided NOT to do radiation?? This is only a guarantee for that spot not my entire body! I need help deciding!! Have anyone decided for and against this....... I have wrote pros and cons now need advice. I am only 33 mother of a 4 yr old and great husband!!!!!!

I'm so sorry you are facing this beast at such a young age and with a little one at home...There are no easy decisions...I decided not to do radiation. I consulted two radiation oncologists and both said it would reduce my risk of local recurrence but did nothing to prevent an occurrance in my opposite breast or to prevent a distant mets. They also said since my lumpectomy was on the left side there was risk of heart, lung, and rib damage with rads. My oncologist and BS both said they recommended BMX as the "best" method of prevention. So instead of rads I did chemo, had a BMX, and am now taking an aromatase inhibitor. Since I did not have rads I was able to have immediate reconstruction with implants and avoid any more surgery (for now at least:). I wish the answers were clear but they are not so I think we have to make the best choice we can with the information we have and, as others on these boards have said...don't look back and second guess our decisions...I wish you the best...(((Hugs))) Maureen
