my up and down LE day

So yesterday I finally got some new sleeves and gloves. I had been putting it off due to insurance issues, but it could not wait. (I get new insurance in June)

So the good news is that the Barton Carey gloves came in fitting great, and in a new beige which looks more like my skin tone. With a long sleeve you could ALMOST overlook it while it is new and clean.

They are however a VERY different beige than my Juzo silver beige sleeve. Oh well.

I had a meltdown though, my fitter was not there, and the clerk said they could not help me fill out the insurance paperwork. I am paying a very high co-pay, about 60% to keep going there, because they get the garments right.

I started crying and another clerk got mad at me. I mean for 600$ they can fill out a few lines on a form.

I know I have reccomended Falk on here, but they can be a disorganized nightmare. The good fitter is now semi-retired and she was not there yesterday. (Still I must say the garments they offer me are so much better than when I went to the place upstate.)

Finally I calmed down and they agreed to find someone to help me (seriously they couldn't tell me their tax ID or insurance code?)

Then this nice lady around my age came in all wrapped and we got to talking and I was able to give her some LE coping  tips, and my card, so I felt like I did some good.

So I must say it is nice to have new clean garments that fit well. Especially at dance class.

I wish my gloves were not 150$ each. If I could have clean ones all the time it would help. No matter what I wash them in ...NYC grime vs beige glove=grime wins.

Cookie out!

Cookie, Hugs. The other day I could have LITERALLY stolen your title! Heres what I wrote the other day in our NZ forum...

Hi Kiwimum, ..Im going throguh the joys of the steep learning curve of wrapping and other associated dramas of all that LE brings to the table, like measuring.  UGGHH. I feel bad enough with all that hubby has to do already so I thought Id try measuring on my own. Well I must confess I had a MAJOR MELTDOWN. I got cranky with hubby because he was trying to help and wouldn't let him help, then I got angry with myself for getting cranky... then I got plain out determined and was prepared to sit up ALL NIGHT. RIDICULOUS FLIPPIN tape measure! It took me an HOUR to measure up grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Oh and I fully admit I cried too. Fortunately to save any semblance of sanity I had left, my wrapping didn't turn out so bad and my arm looked better.

Heres the place to vent your tears. We all know that. That clerk is SILLY.  I wish my glove wasn't 300$ (custom Jobst) UGGHH. I get one funded per year, same as sleeve and same price too. Nearly fell off my chair when I asked.

    Musical

There is a measure you can use on your own!  I have not tried it yet, but did order and it is actually here.  I really dont want to measure right now with this ' LE grabage' I currently have going on because if I have INCR+ even a smidge I know I will freak.

However, I did want to let you know, you can google search it at Peninsula Medical Solutions,.http://www.lymphedemaproducts.com/shop-bin/sc/productsearch.cgi?storeid=*18386090484fd470df70a50251ce&search_field=Peninsula%20Medical&ppc_ref=gw2&gclid=CMjWwMbKpLcCFUud4AodeGUAgg

Call their toll free number and ask about it. Thats what I did.

We all want to be independent !

    Hope this helps a bit.

Purple, thx for link but I Couldnt find anything by it or by a google search of that term. I don't think I'll be ringing them form NZ LOL.  I just punched into google tape measure arms and the link below looks pretty good for self measurements.

    http://www.amazon.com/Accu-Fitness-Body-Tape-Measure/dp/B0017OE4MI/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_6

I have the small (narrow) tape measure (in a plastic casing) already which was kindly supplied by my LEist but its still difficult to use by yourself.

What I got VERY angry about was measuring along the LENGTH of the arm 1st to mark out the places where you measure the circumference. Since Im pretty particular I like to get the exact right place and I didn't want to use cellotape (or something) to hold it in place, as thats more stuff on my sensitive skin I can do without. So for "SELF longitudinal measuring" any ideas are very welcome!

In the meantime.... heres a goer for circumference measurements...

My LEist kindly also supplied me with a real NIFTY little tape measure for measuring TOES!!! It easily has enough length to do arms! Well its actually made out of paper and obviously has a limited life span... in fact I think it's designed more for just one use, but with careful use it should last a while. I will try and describe it because it is BRILLIANT! It has a little slit on a widened end where 0cms starts... whereby you can poke one end of the tape measure through this slit making it into a circle. You can then pull the slack up (gently) and if you do it right you can get a very exact measurement. The design is simple and brilliant. I should see if I can photograph it and put it up here, but I still think photos must be loaded from a host like flicker or something.

Hope you are coming right Purple.

BTW some of the comments (reviews) on the above link I gave are less than ideal with this device giving "macro" measurements like locking into the nearest inch rather than subdivisions thereof, which is pretty useless if youre wanting accuracy, and who wouldnt be?
