I'm sure many of you have read that AJ has the BRCA gene, and had a double mastectomy. I read her article in the NY Times, and I thought it was beautiful...

There are a couple of threads going already, with some disagreeing about how it has been presented.

I am with you, and believe it was a brave and amazing choice to make for herself and her family.

As someone BRCA2+ I think it is great that she is talking about it. Obviously it is an individual decision what to do before a dx. However, knowing what I know and after all I've been through, I wish I had known I was BRCA2+ before my dx. I certainly would have opted for the dbl. mastectomy and hysterectomy.

I am very proud of her o the procedure and make it public as well. It provides more awareness to people about BC as well preventive things you can do.

I read it today and I agree, if I had known I was BRCA1+ I would have done what I could have to prevent it.  I'm still not over the fact that I am + and that I'm the only one in my family with BC, it was a such shock to me and huge pill to swallow.  I'm glad my girls will be given the options to prevent it before the fact, maybe they won't have to go through what we did.
