I am having breast pain, an unusual full sensation in my post-radiation breast and its been almost 6 yrs since I completed radiation for Stage 1 IDC. My last mammogram was ok. But I'm worried. This breast hurts and when I lie on my back, it feels like there is pressure. Has anyone else experienced this?

Jods - of course you are worried I think we will all be from now on but you posted your mammogram was okay so that is a good sign. Certainly get it checked but 6 years is a long time. I am wondering if it is yet another SE of radiation therapy. I am told symptoms dont show up for years. My sister has LDC and she has constant breast pain. She is only a year and a half out. She saw her BS and ONC and turned out to be nothing. Good luck. Diane

Jods, nothing we can say will really take away the concern. When was your last mammo? I was told I will have pain the rest of my life in the affected breast. Some times it is fine and other times it really bothers me. I totally understand your fear, I think we all have it. Sorry I cant be helpful really. :-)

My Radiologist felt the that the pain was unusual this far out from surgery and radiation. But it also feels like there is something there. No definite lump but an area for sure. Of course it could be scar tissue, etc. But I also have an asymmetrical spot on my other breast. She wants me back for mamms again in July. I wondered if anyone had a similar pain. Sometimes it is hard to know what to do. After I finished treatment, every little pain or bump was the cancer coming back --only it wasn't. Now this far out, it feels like its starting all over again. And I am a bit on the scared side.

    Hi Jods,

I really do not believe that we should have pain after our surgery.  We already went through the horrible sugery, and for most, also chemo and radiation.  Your pain could be one of a number of things or combination.  You said you were kind of scared.. that is normal..but don't let it prevent you from taking action. DO NOT listen to doctors who rationalize what your pain might be.  Be your own advocate.  If it were me, I would be having every test known to man to rule out more cancer.  Even a biopsy of the area.  MRI's and mamos don't pick up everything.  Don't worry about what others will think.  If you are wrong, then great!  If you dr. is not supportive, switch doctors.

With that said...have you always had some pain, or did it just start up again?I was not clear on that.  We have to support one another, that is what this disc. board is all about.  So, please let me know how you are doing, every day if you need to..and I will be there for you.  Maggi
