Pain in surgical area--months later

I had three lumpectomies in late June-July and an additional one in Sept. before starting radiation.  (I am now on Tamoxifen and Effexor.)  I had Grade 2 DCIS.

All of a sudden, the surgical area is very sore.  At first I attributed it to the placement of my seat belt and the fact that with warmer weather I was no longer wearing coats that would pad the area.  I now realize it hurts much of the time, and I notice it stretches/hurts when I lift my arm up.

Is this likely scar tissue?  Is there something I should be doing about it?  (I have tried caling my surgeon's office today but thought I would ask here in the meantime.)

    Thank you, Julie

My surgery was in December, so I'm not as far out as you, but am noticing something very similar this week - the swelling which had gone down is back, along with some accompanying soreness.    My RO had said when I saw him about 6 weeks ago to expect this to happen (wax and wane as he put it) for the next 6 months at least, and mentioned that while they have no idea why it is, it seems to get much worse in hot humid weather (which we have had this past week here in NJ), so I am thinking it is pretty normal, but would be interested to hear what your surgeon says if you do get a call-back.

By the way, where on the North Shore are you?  We have family in Nahant and love it up there in the summer!

I have a seroma (and I only had ONE lumpectomy). It hurts sometimes and I think there is scar tissue too. It is visible on my regular mammogram and mri. the BS offered to drain it but I have heard that it can fill up again. I am leaving well enough alone. Have your BS check it out for you.

Thank you both for your responses. I did reach my BS's nurse practitioner today, and she was helpful. I see the BS in July but will go in earlier if it continues to bother me.

Annette--we are up near Newburyport, also a beautiful area!
