    Chisharona- I'm so sorry about your job. My motto is my friend Karma is a bitch. Fortunately, for your former boss has NEVER had to deal with cancer herself. This disease takes a toll on us mentally,physically and emotionally. Do not cancel your surgery because of this woman. Take care of yourself and don't give that POS woman a second thought. You will find something a lot better and someone that cares about your wellbeing more than another body in your position. Hope you have a better day. Smile

    I think you need to read up about ADA federal law:

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    This federal law states that an employer cannot refuse to hire or refuse to continue to employ a person with a disability (including cancer), as long as that person is able and qualified to do the job. The law applies to any private employer, including state and local governments, with 15 or more employees. The ADA requires employers to treat all employees the same. The law applies to all aspects of the employment process: the job application procedure, hiring, promotion, discharge, employee compensation, job training, leaves of absence, sick leave, other leave and fringe benefits.

    Your manager's action is not only despicable and cold-hearted, but almost certainly illegal.  If your company is so small that it isn't covered by ADA, it still might be worthwhile to consult an attorney.  If nothing else, this might qualify as harassment, since this clearly must feel like a hostile environment.  

    I hope everything goes perfectly with your exchange.  Mine is coming up in June and everyone I've talked to says her recovery was fast and easy.

    Hi ChiSharona... So sorry this happened to you, especially before Mother's Day (whether you're a mom or not) and even more so with your surgery almost here. I lost my job too, and as much as that sucks, I just have to believe there's a reason I don't know yet or it will affect my well-being in not so good ways. I need all the positive energy to nurture myself now so healing and the rest of my life turns out as its supposed to. Even my 2 cancers happened for reasons I wouldn't have imagined. Try to let this go, you need positive energy now. Focus on wellness and recovery as best you can. Sending healing hugs, prayers, and positive energy your way.

    2ndtime, yes I am! After 6 months of TE rocks I get my squishies tomorrow at 7:30. Just hoping I don't end up with drains. The PS said he didnt think I would need them but couldnt guarantee.

    ChiSharona, you definately need to put yourself first then figure out if your jerk of a boss has the legal right to treat you that way. (((((Hugs)))))

    Huge thanks to Chrisrenee77, carpe_diem, 2nd time around and iatigger for your kind words and support. I just knew the women here would understand that getting this news was for me a major slap in the face...I know it is my reality but I am still in a state of shock and disbelief.



    As far as ADA being applicable, I am hoping to speak with an attorney tomorrow. My employer is extremely large and very well known, so I would not think the are exempt from the policy. I would however also think that they are acting within the law, but even if that were to be the case, the communication to me was grossly mis-handled and have crossed legal boundaries.



    I have no idea how I will get through this...but I know that I must do so.



    Iatigger, where in IA are you having your surgery and who is you surgeon? I wish you all the best tomorrow...please keep us posted.

    I also work for a large company. Under the law...I'm no expert, they only have to hold your position for a set period of time. After which they can hire someone else based on business need. They must offer you another position within the company when you return. They cannot fire you.

    Hi gals, just a quick check in. I am officially a member of squishy girls. But dang it got drains again :(. He was fixing some ears that were a result of the first surgery. Fortunately my DH is good with the drains and it makes him feel needed so I guess I will deal with them for a little while. Well back to nap land. Ta ta for now.

    Congrats latigger!  I'm jealous.....now that I'm done with fills and know surgery will be sometime in August it's getting harder to be patient with my over-expanded rock-hard TEs!  My PS has already told me I'll have 2 drains for 5 days so at least I won't wake up surprised about that.

    iatigger... Congrats! Woo-hoo, welcome to the squishy size! Again, my thoughts on drains: my PS says she only uses drains if needed because fluid build-up is painful. So, trusting your PS did the best to prevent additional pain. Sleep well!



    Romey & Susan... What's your status again? If not listed above, I get confused. Probably should have been keeping notes about everyone here, but too much work (trying to keep up with what's going on with me is a full-time job. Lol)

    Sherry, I had radiation on one side 10 years ago (first BC). Got a lumpectomy and silicone implant shortly after treatment was complete. The radiated side did shrink and never quite matched my right side. My 2nd BC on the right was this past summer, no radiation. I opted for dbl MX with TE at same time. Now, 10 months and 6 fills later, my radiated side is harder and more projected. PS said all will be addressed at exchange. He expects the radiated side to likely have CC even ten years later but said it can always be addressed with more procedures down the road. My exchange surgery is May 23 (rescheduled from day of bombing as he had volunteered to work on the marathon victims).

    thirdgeneration: Your exchange is the day after mine!!!! Woot! I'm on a cleaning frenzy right now, trying to get all in order for NEXT WEEK!!!! I even bought new VS jammies for the occasion...Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Laughing

    Anyone have any input on how long the recovery is after the exchange?? I know its nothing like the mastectomy, but just wondered what to expect.......

    Tangles: I'm sure it depends on the extent of pocket work needed, the type and size of implant, location of incision, etc plus each person's healing and 'bounce-back' capabilities.  My PS told me to plan on two weeks off work with six weeks of gradually decreasing weight and activity restrictions.
