An honor I'm humbled and honored to receive
To all my BC friends and sisters: Just got work yesterday that I was chosen by my local chapter of the American Heart Association to be this year's recipient of their annual "Lifestyle Achievement Award." This award is given to a heart-attack/heart illness survivor who highly exemplified excellent "lifestyle changes" and turnaround, to also inspire others. I was honored and cried, humbled at the honor, which I'll receive at the AHA Heart Walk I'll be participating in this Saturday. The next day marks my five-year anniversary of surviving a near-fatal heart attack on 05/08/2008. Now, 5 years later, I removed BC from my body on 04/25/2013 with a BMX. Thanks to WW and high levels of activity, have removed 90 lbs. since 1/12/2012. I told the AHA if I can save just ONE life, enable just ONE person to learn and act to enable a quicker DX and survival, then the honor will prove worthwhile. I also want to state that (in my heart) all my BC sisters will be there with me -- and I will accept this for all of you -- when they put the medal around my neck, because we are really ALL "lifeestyle achievement award winners" -- in every sense of the term!
BTW, this will be my 5th yearly AHA Heart Walk I've done, and I will be doing the 3 mile route with my SIL -- which I vowed to do even with my DX of BC in March!

Thank you ever so kindly, moderators and BC sisters and posters! After walking 3 miles with my SIL and a dear friend from WW (she's lost 137 lbs. herself & has placed 1st in her 63-years-old age category in a few 5Ks she's run in (both of whom were with DH entire pre- and post-BMX procedure time), I went to 2 WW meetings with my WW friend, and was happy to see I actually lost .20 lbs. post-walk!
And... the hugs & kisses & high-5's from so many, a few BC survivors themselves... with a lot of whispered "I was praying for you & my whole church was also," and so many other words & hugs of comfort... a truly emotional morning! But a very happy one! I had so many ladies (and men) come up to me after my medal was awarded, with tears in their eyes, but now a good deal of awareness of BC, and you CAN survive! DH taking me to dinner tonight to celebrate LIFE and our 12 years of marriage... also today is the 50th anniversary of my First Communion!
And the beautiful bouquet of flowers I was given I will now give to you, ALL! ....
Happy Mother's Day to ALL!

Congratulations on your accomplishments, and on using your experience to help others! Deanna
