    Hi riverhorse,

So I am assuming that you did not have chemo.  My score is 21 and in that gray area and my MO said it would only make a very small difference, if any in the survival rate, I think 1%.  this, she added very seriously, was not worth the risks of the chemo itself and I do agree.  I was very disappointed that the score was that high and it being in the so-called  gray area.  Of course I am relieved not to have the chemo but at the same time I hope this is the best way to go.  I can't believe how much they do know yet still don't know about breast cancer.  I am learning more each and every day.

    peace and contentment! (P&C)

    lllimama,

I am surprised that your MO wants ,especially without a score yet and your grade is only a 1. Perhaps the size of your tumor but I wouldn't think so.  I'll be curious to learn what your onco is and what determination is finally made for you and why.  It has been expressed to me that HR is more effective than chemo for ILC is most cases. Also I am curious as to why you had a MX?  My BO is hightly recommending rads and HR therapy only.

    P&C (peace and contentment)

    Hi Beachwalker54

I was given an option of a lumpectomy or mastectomy. My BS had no opinion as to what I should do. The choice was left upto me. There was concern about family history ( my sister passed away in her early 40's from BC), but I tested negative for BRCA 1 and 2 and also for another gene.

Ultimately after my BS told me that there was a higher risk of occurrence in my other breast given I had ILC, I opted to remove both breast now.

After the mastectomy, my path report on my good breast showed LC in situ. Chances are, given it had become Invasive in the right breast, it probably would have in the left.

I would highly recommend a double mastectomy.  I had a very small, Stage 1,  ILC tumor, no nodes, Oncotype 9.  I had a lumpectomy, 34 radiation treatments and 4 years of Tamoxifen before I found out I had a recurrence in the same location as before.  ILC is nothing to mess with and a double mastectomy in the beginning is much easier than having one after radiation when the skin can't heal.  I had immediate reconstruction and feel great now.  Good luck!!
