21 and second time having atypical ductal hyperplasia

So I'm just wondering what treatment options anyone else would do for this. It's the second time it's came back in the same spot. And I've had them both surgically removed both times.

The doctor is talking about tamoxifen but I'm scared to do that because I still want kids.

I do have a strong family history of cancer.

Would chemo and radiation be a better choice for me so I have a better outlook for kids in the future?

Have you spoken to a genetic counselor? Have you been tested for the BRCA mutation? I second proudtospin, I would go to the very best regional cancer center you can find, if only for a consult.

Alcleary,--chemo and radiation are not treatments for atypical ductal hyperplasia.  I "third" the recommendation for you to get genetic counseling and possibly BRCA testing at a high-risk clinic at an NCI designated cancer center if possible. You are likely to be presented with three choices:  1) intense surveillance (you are already getting that probably) 2) tamoxifen or raloxiphene 3) prophylactic mastectomy (which would still preserve reproductive options). Should you choose to have a pregnancy and be high risk, there are ob/gyn's who actually follow the pregnancies of brca positive women.  The is one in my ob/gyn practice.

    Thanks for responding.

The doctors have already discussed radiation and the tamoxifen. I just don't feel very comfortable taking that being so young.
