Sherry - I tried carbo for two full cycles and my tumor markers went from 1000 to 1850! So I am really glad the Gemzar is working!!! Did they try cutting the doze of Gemzar? That was the magic for me.
-
I went to a wedding tonight and got totally shit faced...awesome!
-
Happy birthday Karen......happy happy joy joy!
Luv....I cannot say how happy I am for you. Gemzar was an easy (side effects) drug for me too but not as effective. So so very happy....just can't stop smiling for you.
Mity.......so sweet of you. I missed all of you wonderful ladies on the board and now feel so silly to have been away for so long. That won't happen again.
Lovely......This is a tremendous board for support. Losing a supportive friend and fellow fighter is always a heartbreaking reality check. Just remember we are here for you. Give us your best shot, good and bad. we can take it. Feel free to pm me ANY time.
Titan.....thanks mama bear.
Love to you all.......d

Ladies,
I had a friend (whom had "fallen" off the face of the earth for a time) call me the other day so apologetic about her absence. She admitted that she just didn't know what to say. I reminded her that there are a lot of other subjects we can talk about. I am still living and doing other things that have nothing to do with cancer. She can ask me about my garden, my jewelry, my family, so many other fun things to discuss. That broke the ice and we had a wonderful conversation.
I don't know why I had to share that but it seems so easy for me to lose sight of my life through all of this, but today was a good day and I know tomorrow will be too. Monday I have a brain scan. But I will make it a good day. That's what we ladies do so well. WE LIVE!
Love to you all again and always...........d

Hi Gilly..........:)
-
Lovely, I can the shakes from time to time and I find that small amounts of protein help. I also keep Luna bars (lemon zest) handy for a sweet energy boost. Give that a try and let me know if it works for you. Mostly all my food tastes buttery these days, even water. Very disappointing side effect of chemo.
Love you tons!
-
Last night I let loose! I went to a wedding (wore my stupid wig), drank too much and had a blast. Seriously the most fun I have had since I started this journey. The only bad part was that my thighs gave out in the middle of dancing and I fell...thanks chemo. My friend helped me up and i said please tell me no one saw my underware. I really needed a night of a lot of laughs
Now I have to get ready to take the kids to church....back to reality!
Let's make it a good day.
xoxo

Inmate: You rock, girl. Nice that your friend was honest about her discomfort and you guys had a good conversation. Fingers crossed for a good scan tomorrow.
Jen: I bet it felt fabulous to break loose of all the BC crap for an evening. Well done!
Luv: Best news about the gemzar! Very happy for you.

Inmate (Dawn): Thanks for the tip on protein, I am going to try making some great shakes with fruits and protein powder. I will say tons of mantras (prayers) tomorrow for a very positive outcome for your brain scan. My hats off to you for your strength and courage at this time. I know hearing the results takes a whole lot of courage, my friend. My very best wishes tomorrow. Love, love, love.

Jenjen....must be in the water or wine. Lol. I did the same thing nite.
Have a great day Ladies. The Pacific Northwest is having the most awesome weather now. Makes the mood brighten up a bit -
Thanks for my birthday wishes. I had a lovely weekend. Friends drove in, wore silly, flowery frocks and the flower crowns I made and attended a Wildflower Festival with me. We were all former child May pole dancers, so we hijacked the pole and laughed and laughed.
I rented a campsite, where I put up a kitchen tent and set a lavish picnic out, including Chpagne. A lovely memory. -

Jen,
Good for you. I am jealous.

I just realized that I have passed my final "one year ago today" milestone! One year ago I quit wearing my wig to work. My hair had only been growing in for about 6 weeks or so and was maybe 1/2" long and actually a beautiful white/silver (I had always dyed it a light brown/blondish color). I was scared as I work in a professional setting (not sure that makes a difference), but got lots of what seemed to be genuine compliments (the color is so pretty; it opens up your face, and my personal favorite "you look like a young Judi Dench," etc.)
So if any of you are at this stage and were like me, where you wanted to be conservative and look as "normal" as possible with a wig that closely matched your natural hair - be brave and go for it! It is very freeing.
One year out my hair is about the same thickness (thick, yay!) and soft natural wave as before BC, though still shorter than my preferred style.
Jen - how fun for you
OBXK - what a wonderful birthday
Inmate - anxious to hear about your scan results
I pray for you all daily, if not all by "name" as "the TN ladies".
-
An anxious day. Just had my first mammogram since diagnosis. It was clear. :-)
My surgeon actually said I should try and put 'it' behind me, and get on with my life.
That is so much easier said than done, isn't it? Especially, since I still see the MO for follow up and blood work every 3 mos, for tumor markers, that may--or may not--be accurate. She asked about lingering SE from chemo, and didn't seem surprised when I mentioned brain fog (she actually nodded, and said, yes, chemo brain). Said it will get better, but I am still concerned, when I can't seem to find the right words. Makes me go to a dark place.
But, I had a brain MRI for headaches a few months ago, and was good. So hard to know when to be concerned, and when to assume my symptoms might just be normal aging. I am 64 years old.
Hugs to all who are still in treatment. It really does get better. -
Joyce/luv - I go through the same thing; I am 60 now, 58++ at dx and wonder if various symptoms are residual chemo effects, mets, or normal aging aches and pains!
-
Karen - so glad you had a nice b-day. Best wishes.
-
To my good supportive online friends: My sister (with lung cancer) had a biopsy Friday. We were to meet with her MO next Tuesday to hear the plan of attack. However, she started coughing and coughing blood, so she is back in the hospital. They don't think the blood is from the biopsy, but don't know from where it comes. They've taken her off the Coumadin she was taking (because she has had a heart valve replaced) and I'm waiting to hear what they are finding. Please keep her in your thoughts. I have a DH and 2 adult children, but she's all that's left of my birth family.
Inmate - hoping your brain scan was clear. You are in MY thoughts. Nat
-
Thinking of you and your sister today, NatL.
Pretty sure that the waiting room is getting pretty full as we wait to hear how things went, Inmate. Sending good vibes your way, too.
-
natL...keeping good thoughts for your sister..
Grammy...our DXs are almost identical (forget the ER+ because it is only 2%) but I am 69 and wonder the same things. Are the aches and pains just normal old age but the memory lapses (can't remember familiar words) are scary. Was it the chemo?
-
natL - you are in my thoughts!
