I'm back and Stage IV

I posted here last year, I believe and things have changed recently. I've been diagnosed with a distant recurrence in the hilar lymph nodes, the rest of my body is clear. However, I'm just depressed as can be with being shifted into the incurable category.

I changed doctors, because it seemed my original onc could never get ahold of it. I'm now on a 21 day cycle Carbo/Gemzar--day 1, both drugs. Day 8 Gemzar.

I want to know if anyone's experienced a similar recurrence. What can I expect? i understand that I could be doing this chemo cycle or some other cycle for the rest of my life. It is a bit overwhelming. Triple-Negative is scary enough, stage IV is terrifying. I guess I'm looking for some hope.

Sounds like your disease is pretty limited at this point, that's a good thing.

I'm starting Gemzar this week.  Will let you know how it goes.

LinnieB~ I'm sorry your having to deal with this again. Did you do chemo before surgery to see your responce? I just finished 3 treatments of Carboplatin/Gemzar. It was a breeze compared the Taxotere/cytoxan. I was never sick just a little tired.

    Thanks everyone.

Cpacino, no I didn't have chemo before surgery. I had Taxol/Cytoxane immediately after surgery, then Doxil after a local recurrence in the skin. It was on the Doxil that my tumor markers went up and test showed cancer in the hilar nodes.

I had the first infusion of Carbo/Gemzar yesterday. Aside from some mild waves of nausea, I feel okay.

I was dx with Stage IV right out of the gate @ 29 with over a dozen spots on my liver the biggest the size of a quarter and my entire left lung and my right lung was sprinked.  The doctors decided since I was young they where going to throw everything including the kitchen sink.  I had a drop of Taxol, and had the fastest reaction ever scene, so I was switched to Abraxane (u can see my treatment below).

The doctors where able to get me to NED in Jan 09, Oct 09 was my last Abraxane treatment, I get scaned every 3 months.  Everyone reacts differently so hopefully u will find a doctor and a treatment that will get everything under control and hopefully to NED.

hydeskate: Just want to say thanks for posting on behalf of the ladies here. I know there must be other stage IV TNs  who have gotten to NED and stayed there, but we don't hear from them much. So nice to know you're doing well and being lcosely watched.
