I just got the results of my biopsy for suspected IBC, after presenting for 6 weeks now with redness and pain in my left breast that wouldn't respond to the many medications we tried. The report shows no malignancy BUT shows definite inflammation and thickening of the skin. I asked if maybe we should biopsy other areas of the breast incase we just missed the spot and they said they didn't think so, just to monitor it. What would you do? Should I trust that the doctor knows what she's doing (she's very good, head of surgical oncology in our city) or demand more biopsies? Are there other conditions that can cause thickening of the skin and inflammation in one breast? Unfortunately imaging is not helpful because I'm breastfeeding.

I would ask for another biopsy, but the good news is that had it been IBC, you would have noticed it by now after 6 weeks as being REALLY BAD. That type of breast cancer moves fast. The breast feeding suggests an infection, mastitis perhaps? and then if that is the case, stop breast feeding. (((hugs)))) hoping and believing all is well.....

Thank you for your reply and that's good to know that it would have progressed a lot more by now. i wasnt sure if more symptoms would present themselves or if they would stay the same while it spread. My OB and the BS ruled out mastitis after 3 rounds of antibiotics and a blood test.

I actually pump so it's just milk he gets, and I didn't stop because the BS said if it's not IBC or the infection/allergic reaction/yeast that we've already treated for, it could be a weird but harmless reaction to breastfeeding itself. Hate to dry up my supply when my child is only 8 weeks if it's completely benign. I just want to be 100% sure it's not IBC since two doctors now have said its suspicious for it. And I am not sure if one biopsy can truly rule it out completely or not

In your shoes I would ask for a second opinion and mention possibility of lobular cancer too
