Oncogene test

My partner was diagnosed with ER+, PR+, HER 2 neg, DCIS and ICS in Feb. She has strong family hx but BRAC was neg. She had lumpectomy about a month ago, margins were not big enough < 1mm so she requires another surgery, followed by radiation and Tamoxifen. However, tissue sample from lumpectomy was sent for Oncogene test but report says insufficient carcinoma! How can this be possible? Does she really have breast cancer? We are very confused and feeling a bit skeptical. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Did you mean IDC? My only guess would be that the doc didn't send a big enough piece. How large was the IDC (assuming that was what you meant)

I'm sorry yes IDC, I'm not sure of sample size, but it was tissue from lumpectomy so would have been larger than original biopsy specimen. Thank you.

Not familiar with Oncogene test...another name for Oncotype test? I agree probably the sample wasnt large enough.

This happen to me as well. It just means the piece of tumor was not big enough. They will need to send more tissue. Sorry this happened to you as well. Waiting is the worst..

Thank you for all your comments, I appreciate it. She only met Onc for initial multidisciplinary visit and has not see her since. We saw non-result on patient portal. It's all very scary and leaves you wondering whats going on. Good luck to everyone with their treatment.
