What can I do to sleep through the night?

I am just over the halfway mark in radiation:  20 down, 13 to go.  I have had chemo and a bilateral mastectomy with a left lymph node dissection.  I started this journey in August of 2012.  As I progress through each treatment my ability to fall and stay asleep worsens.  I have tried Tylenol PM, Melatonin, and Ambian. I saw a Magnesium supplement, Tranquility, by Vitacost, that was online.  Has anyone tried something like that with success?  Any suggestions for what I can do will be much appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Delco1, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

You may find some helpful information on the main Breastcancer.org site's Insomnia page. There's lots of good tips to help you manage your sleep troubles!

    Hope this helps!

I  bought some relaxation and hypnosis CDs. The hypnosis CDs actually helped (along with taking Ambien!).

I experience the same issue with Sleep.  At one point I thought I was going "nuts"  (the doc later called this Brain Fatigue due to lack of sleep) and then I spoke with the Doctor in the family center of our clinic and explained to her that I just could not sleep.  Her advice was this.

    1. Stay out of the bedroom If you are not fast asleep in 10 mins get out of the bed & out of the room

    2. Do not sleep during the day.  At all cost make the effort to stay awake and out of the bedroom

    3.  Try to be busy, for me that was not much more than flipping through TV channels.  It took me 8 days but on the 9th day I slept.  that first night I slept 7 hours
