Anyone who found an open sore?

Hi ladies - I was diagnosed with DCIS last summer, had r mastectomy and reduction to left.  Been ticking along with no issues for a while now, and all of a sudden -  I developped this bizarre open sore at the bottom of my areola last week on my left breast (well, my only breast I guess!) pretty much where the stiches line is around the areola...  It literally came out of nowhere, just popped up and I only noticed it due to blood/pus (gross, I know) in my bra...  it's about pinkie nail size...

Went in to see my GP, and she's sending me to my oncologist/surgeon, plastics and for an ultrasound!  Kind of freaking out a little, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard of anything like this...

Did any of you that were diagnosed with IBC initially start out with an open sore?

Any info is appreciated.

I have heard of some people starting out with the "bug bite", something which I never had at all in my dx of IBC.  It is great that they are being so proactive with you to see if it could be a form of cancer, but you can have surgical complications for a very long list of reasons including infection, fat necrosis or even diabetes.  There are many, many stories here of similar complications and something that would cause a wound to ulcerate can do that underneath the skin, meaning that you always had the issue but couldn't see it until recently.  You certainly have an infection because of the pus - IBC is not an infection (although it can of course cause them in time but this would generally be pretty advanced).

I would not begin to make the leap to IBC, honestly, or any sort of cancer at this point.  I'm so sorry you're having this issue and I know it is upsetting and frightening, but chances are pretty high that it is a post-surgical compication that will be resolved soon.  They are ruling out cancer, which is excellent - you seem to have an "on the ball" team.

Thanks Sherlocked, I appreciate the quick response.  I do have a very on the ball team (all my docs are women, not making judgements, but sure does seem to make a difference Laughing)  - so I should know more later in the week.

I'll post what I find out - and hopefully it will be just some little annoyance!
