Spring Grinch!!!!!
Everyone loves freakin' spring.
I used to.
Now I hate it.
Winter I can wear lots of black clothes to hide my black sleeve and glove. I have to wear beige in the sun or my arm starts to burn, and it's hard to cover up.
That's the worst thing about LE, it totally warps my life view. I can remember being so happy when the flowers bloom. I was an April bride. I used to love heading out without a coat. Now I always need something to cover this damn sleeve.
BOOOO LE!!!!

I live in Florida - I feel ya! I went to the gym yesterday so I had bi-lat sleeves/gauntlets on. It is already too hot - yesterday was 86 F outside - can't wait for the humidity to start.
-
ugg! I am NOT looking forward to the warmer weather. I am worried about swelling as well. I live in California and we don't usually have humidity, but we can reach 110..... my work a/c is NOT the greatest, and I fear for the summer!
As for the burning... I am new to this... are you able to use sunscreen under the sleeves and gauntlets? From what I have read we have to be careful.

It's cold & rainy today in Wisconsin but I remember last year (my first spring with LE) and how unseasonably warm it was with daffodils blooming at the end of March, etc. The first really hot weather in mid-May also brought me an encounter with cellulitis.
So, warning to those of you still a little new at this: the normal bacteria that live on our skin can become infectious with our stagnant lymph flow. My myriad of red spots cleared up with an antibiotic and I've thankfully managed to avoid another bout.
Cookie, have you looked at the clothes made with SPF fabrics? Unless they're too casual for your lifestyle, they might provide light weight protection and many of the tops are long sleeved. I hope it's OK to wish you a Happy Anniversary this month...
Kimber, most sunscreens are going to have ingredients that do not agree with our compression garments. Even our own sweat/natural oils can wreak havoc with the elastic fibers which is why they need frequent laundering.

I wear a special sunblocking Juzo sleeve, but it only comes in one color, and it totally does not match my glove
-
Cookie
What sunblocking sleeve?
PLS give us a link if you can.THX
-
I thought that about the sleeves. I am going to have to be very proactive about sun! I am very pale, and could easily be a red head. I don't tan, I do red only. Would love info on the sunscreen sleeve
-
can't find a good link, we've posted it before, it seems to reflect or block some of the heat, I don't know if it's officialy SPF. It's a juzo silver. It comes in one tan shade with a sort of athletic looking white trim.
I definately get less hot red blotches with it

Thanks cookiegal! I will be looking into it!

I don't belong in this forum but the topic caught my eye. Here in Michigan we still have winter. I am still wearing my winter coat! Rained all week along with wind and cold. The warm, and even hot, weather sounds wonderful to me.

I hear ya Joy, I live in Minnesota and we just got dumped on with snow. I am looking forward to spring, tho. I always wear a long sleeve shirt in summer, most times you go from a air conditioned house to air conditioned car to an air conditioned store, church etc. We do camp, but I make sure to stay in shade. I'm eying a travel shirt in white on coolibar ( just google coolibar shirts ) I got a piece of material a couple of years ago from them that I put over my arm when we travel by car and that darn sun is shining in side window . I take no chances with my le arm. It may be hot but it's better than the alternative. I find that in minnesota anyway, most places feel good with long sleeves ( the air conditioning is set so low it is actually cold ). The true test is coming in June when the whole family is traveling to South Carolina for our 50th wedding anniversary. What was I thinking????? Sharon

Joy and Bing, Welcome to our threads(which are yours too!) and I hope you visit often. Considering myself a newbie of about 2 years I can always use tips such as the sun material on your arm in the car. I usually just drape my sunshirt over my arm but the material would be great too and it's easy to store in your car. Keep up the tips. I just bumped up Sun protection and bug bites thread. Maybe you have more Ideas for us that you could post there. Thanks
2 heads are better than one for sure in the LE game.

cookie - Today was the warmest we've had so far this year. It seems like days like this ... I remember it exactly last year too ... the first really warm days ... 85 or warmer when everyone first breaks out their shorts, flip flops and short sleeves ... I get more comments on my gloves and sleeves during that time that anytime in the heat of the summer. I'm not sure why.
Had an interesting experience today. I posted it over on the exercise thread but it fits here too. I've had three different people say something to me today. This guy was the first. And it was a first.
Sometimes people are stupid and say the dumbest things ... this encounter really encouraged me. We're not alone in this.
Here is what I wrote on the exercise thread:
_____
I had a meeting all day today.
And the issue of the gloves and sleeves came up.
It's the warmest day of the year so far ... and while out on a break I was walking and doing fist pumps (in short sleeves of course) in the air and a man asks me, "I hope I'm not breaking a boundary here, but why are you wearing those?" (as he pointed to my sleeves). I usually say, "Complications for surgery" and leave it there but today I didn't ... I said, "I've had breast cancer and now have LE from the side effects of treatment." He said, "Me too. I have Lymphedema too as a side effect of surgery."
I've never encountered that response before ... especially from a man. I didn't ask ...but I'm assuming he's had prostrate CA because he said he has it in his leg and he goes up to Mayo for treatment. Then ensued a 15 minute rant on both our parts of our frustration with getting care, with the ignorance of so many of our doctors ...etc,. It really was rather therapeutic. Unexpected. Was a bit of encouragement too and a reminder that we're not alone in this fight. As we press on, hand out sheets from SUSO and other sites, educate, ... eventually we're going to be heard. And we're going to be helped.

Aw, Dawne-Hope, that's a beautiful story! Bet he's feeling encouraged tonight too. No chance he has a bc.org sort of discussion board to help him deal. So glad you were in the right spot and the right frame of mind!
Hugs,

I have once or twice had that reaction, I met a woman who had leg LE following a vein operation
-
The weather is starting to get to me too! The sad thing is, we moved from Ireland to the south of France 10 years ago for the sun and outdoor lifestyle.....
My LE developed in November 2012 so this is going to be my first experience in the sun and heat. Not looking forward to it! I'm tall and slim, so have been lucky enough up until now that I've never had to deal with body issues until now. Because my LE affects the whole left side of my body there's no hiding it. Like there wasn't enough to cope with!

Oh Nicky, that kind of sucks. I am ready to move to Alaska!!!! But hey your tall and slim and live in France so you are still a rock star to me.
