Bon voyage for Boston. We'll be cheering on Monday!
-
Thank you all for your kind wishes- I have been crying all day- I cant believe I am doing this. A BIG highlight was: I got a very big hug from Katherine Switzer who told me to be fearless.
She was the first female running to ever Boston (1967). There is a very famous picture of her and a man trying to rip off her number and force her off course.
-
Groovygirls - OMG you met Kathrine Switzer!!! And a big hug to boot! I hope you have a blast on Monday. You too Roan and Firstcall (and anyone else reading this and Boston Bound). Go go go!
ps OMG Groovygirls you got a hug from Kathrine Switzer!

10K this morning was fantastic! 40,000 or so runners on a gorgeous spring morning. There is an old cathedral near the start of the race and those who wanted to could go to a blessing of the runners service before the race. The priest ended his (very short) homily by pointing out "it's not how fast you run, it's how well you finish." Amen.
With 40,000 runners there were runners of all ages, sizes, shapes and speeds. Many costumes - among the runners, a cow, a man and woman running as American Gothic, a man as a moose and a woman as a hunter, hippies, super-people and lots of tutus and sparkle. Bands and cheering squads lined the route so it was pretty much a morning of connect-the-dots of fun music and high-fives, funny posters and encouraging people. Many runners with signs & sayings on their shirts. My favorite was a guy who had this written on his back, "There will be a day when you cannot do this anymore. Today is not that day."
My week: 3 miles Monday, 2.5 miles Wednesday, 2.5miles pool running Friday, and one very fun 10K. More significantly, radiation sessions are now underway.
Hope things went well for you lawgirlJenn and Annette and again, good luck Boston people!
(ps.For those of you who like or dream of distance running, I highly recommend the movie "Spirit of the Marathon" - its about 6 years old and is on Netflix.)
-
Good luck to all our Bostoners! I'm in awe!
Loves, sounds like a great run. I love those runs where people wear costumes - the miles fly by because I'm so busy enjoying looking at my fellow runners.
Just got back from a week in San Diego. Since I was still on eastern time, I was up before dawn every morning and it was easy to get out and run. Here's a picture from one of my runs - you can see why I was inspired!
-
Hoq fun Love2 and really like the quote from the shirt!!
Beautiful Pic Nat.
I walked 3+ miles thurs and fri. No running since Wed. Will try to restart Mon. Off for a wonderful weekend of work.
Happy weekend and happy trails to all.

Lovestorun, what a wonderful story! I want to run a high-spirited 10K like that, maybe in a few months. NatsFan, thank you for the beautiful picture! Groovygirls, Kathrine Switzer, WOW! So great! My brush with running stars is that I met Jeff Galloway at the Disney Marathon Expo in 2012 and he couldn't have been nicer. He was packing up his stand of books and heading to give a lecture, and I wanted to ask him about my injury, so he said, "Let's walk and talk"--and he gave me great advice about it, as well as about how to dress for the 30-degree temperature change during the hours of the marathon. But I would love to meet Kathrine Switzer!
Good luck Boston runners! I'm in awe!

Happy and injury-free Running to all those running Boston!

Thanks for the well wishes for the Boston race! I am a charity runner too.....I would love to qualify one day, but I am doubtful that will happen! However, I am aiming for a PR.
One year ago I was here in Boston to cheer on my husband who was running the marathon.....just 5 weeks post BMX. I remember that this trip was sort of a bridge from my cancer/surgery/recovery time to my life getting back to normal time. I began running again when we got home. This year I am strong and I am running hard to celebrate life! -
Hi all-
NatsFan loved the picture of SD. I am blessed to live here and I have run quite a few races with that view!
Loves torun sounds like an awesome race! Congrats on your participation and happy for your great experience. I've heard that one of the craziest races is Bay to Breakers in SF and I have been trying to work it into my schedule for a few years. This was finally going to be the year and then got my diagnosis, so I will aim for 2014.
Had my surgery on 4/10 and all went well. The sentinel node came up negative! The tram flap went well and I am happy at home walking in circles and recovering! Thanks for your well wishes,
Go, go, go Boston runners!!! Enjoy every minute and take pride in your accomplishments!
Have an awesome Sunday,
Donna -
Just returned from vacation on Amelia Island near Jacksonville. Had a great time, weather sunny, 80's, now I'm back to clouds, 40's. BUT that's great running weather!
I got in a couple of runs on vacation. Nothing like shorts and tanks as opposed to layering up. Then I would reward myself w/a HUGE breakfast at the B&B we were staying at.
Coming home Saturday we had to get our connecting flight in Atlanta, and I said to my husband, "There will be lots of marathoners on this flight," and sure enough there were. Our flight made it into Boston about 1/2 hour early and MY theory is so many of the passengers were fit and trim runners who did NOT weigh the plane down!
Donnabelle, glad your surgery went well and you are recovering nicely.
Firstcall, thinking of you tomorrow! And everyone else running Boston, have a great time! Finish strong!! xoxox
-
Hi everyone! Donnabelle, I am so happy that your surgery went well!
There are so many great reports and so much energy on here. Everyone is doing amazing things and testing their limits. I love it! Good luck to all of the Boston runners. I anxiously await the race reports!
-
Donnabelle, that's wonderful news! So glad things went well for you.

Nowhere near as exciting as Boston, but thought I would report on my little local 5K I ran today. My goal going in was just to finish, but I actually posted a personal best (30:58) which was good enough for 4th female over all, and 1st in my age group. Not too shabby for only 6 weeks post-radiation!
My 9.5 year old daughter, who is a competive gymnast but not a runner did it too, and finished with a 33:30; but her 11 year old teammate (daughter of my running partner who came in 6th woman) who has also never ran finished in 30:25 putting us all to shame! Since she was good enough to place as an adult they excluded her from the 12 and under competition, which left my daughter in 1st for 12U girl. All in all a good day, even if the kids did show us up a bit!

OK....I think everything is ready. I'm catching the bus in the morning at 630 am, and off to Hopkinton. I've run a lot of marathons, but this is really my re entry into marathoning since being side railed byIchemo. I don't know how it will go, but I think I'm stubborn enough to finish. It wont be fast, I'm thinking I can do it in 5 1/2 hours. If you want to track me, my race number is on the calendar. You go to baa.org, and it will have a link to track runners. I think it will give splits every 5 k. I feel pretty confident about the first half, and I hope I have the endurance for the second half. Thank you everyone for your encouragement. I'm in the 9th corral of the 3rd wave. For those who are there, I'll have on a white compression top (thank you L.E.) under a yellow tank that says 'Marathon Maniacs', black compression socks, and bright red/orange shoes. What a site! Oh well, its not a fashion statement, its a marathon. Of course its cold, so I bought some sweats at Goodwill which I will wear until we start. I guess I look at it as renting them, as they will likely wind up back at goodwill after I drop them at the start. My sweatshirt is a gray zip up with pockets, and it says Arizona on the front. Pretty nice for $4.99.

GO, BOSTON RUNNERS!!! YES, i'M SCREAMING!! SCREAMING MYSELF HOARSE!!!
Been offline since Friday so just catching up...Donnabelle, best wishes for a continued strong recovery. Annette, big high-five on your 5k! What a rush! And lovestorun, what a fun 10k!
Happy running, all. -
Great news Donnabelle! Keep up the walking and you'll be running soon! Annette47, what a great 5K outcome! And Lovestorun that 10K sounds great. Love the costumed ones!
I'll definitely be "vicariously running" Boston. Good luck!

Hello Everyone. No running for this girl as I am still recovering from surgery last Monday. Everything went smoothly and I feel great! Been staying with my family for about week, helping my mom get her house ready for my brother's wedding. The wedding was yesterday and it was fabulous! Have f/u on Tuesday and then headed back home. I think I will be on a walking/stationary bike only plan for at least a month
-
Oh! And congrats, firstcall! What excellent news!
-
This is indeed the happiest thread on this site : ) MMTOMH so glad things went well and a joyous wedding to boot! Congrats Annette!

Question for all you runners.....since a bout with cellulitis in the winter, I've had some lymphedema of my affected side reconstruction (DIEP). Hasn't been a huge problem but I ran 10 miles on Saturday and it's pretty swollen and sore today. Does this make sense to you? I can make a plausible case for it.....so what to do? I'm wearing my compression sports bra and it is more comfortable. Open to other good ideas. I do MLD daily. Thanks!
