DIEP 2013

I wouldn't worry about loosing your fat from your stomach. When I went to my PS I thought I was going to be able to stop my diet. I have been trying to loose 20 pounds. He actually wanted me to loose between 5-10 pounds before surgery. I'm not extremely heavy, but I do have a round tummy. I thought the bigger the better, but he said he only needs the outer fat and when you diet the first thing you loose is the inner fat. I've been trying to loose weight, but all I've been able to loose is just 2 pounds!
>Marty, happy thoughts for you for tomorrow!!
Nihahi, good luck tomorrow. I will be praying for you to have a smooth surgery and a nice nap! -
Have a good nap tomorrow, nihahi, you deserve it.
Marty, I am sure it will be a breeze for you tomorrow.
sbelizabeth, my first reaction was the same as movie: "they are too big!" ps told me the swellings will go down and they have. Because the incisions are very near the fold, you can hardly see them even right after the surgery. ps did a great job shaping them, so under my own skin and nipples, they look great right away.
-
TOWANDA!!! I just love the ladies on this post. With working, the most I can do is speed read everyone's entries. I work, eat, watch a little Netflix, and go to bed, such is my life with the pain. I go see my new PS today, little bit of jitters, I hope he actually listens...
-
TOWANDA!!! I too, heavenschild, speed read to keep up. Hope you get your wish with your ps and he can do something for your pain.
-
Nihahi and MartyJ -- as others have posted earlier, you will need some big pockets for all of us that will be with you tomorrow!
-
I just came back from target and bought two sports bra. It was hard to get it because they go by small, medium, etc... I'm not used to that. I know my size is a 36 D and I've always bought underwire. I got home and went to try them on and they just don't fit right. Maybe after the surgery they'll fit different? This is going to be a challenge. It took me like 10 years to find bras that fit me just right and now I'm going to have to start all over! Urgggg! But I did buy me some comfy undies😄.
-
Thank you to whoever (Nihahi I think?) put my name up on the DIEP date board.
I find it ironic, that as one of the Canadians, my date is Fourth of July. Independence Day! Independence from my old breast tissue, and Independence from mammograms.
However, I camped out in the hospital yesterday until I could talk to my surgeon. I've been concerned about the long wait, and wanted to be more carefully monitored. He agreed that the date should be moved up, so I may not get my fireworks after all. I also had two mammos and an ultrasound. My first mammo was not quite clear, and turned out to be scar tissue. But ladies - I almost peed my pants when they said I had to undress, and come back in immediately for another mammo. And when I was taken for an ultrasound - so many bad memories came flooding back. But it was a clear.
Nihahi - Go girl go! Love your attitude. Jump up on the table tomorrow and get 'er done! Stay strong
MartyJ- Happy chillin'. Hurry back.
Janet
-
Janet-yay for holding camp at your doctors office. You absolutely should be moved up. I have found that you need to be forward with some doctor offices. You are your own best advocate.
Nihahi- thinking of you. You will do great as you have been so prepared with your research and know what to expect. Can't wait to hear from you on the other side.
Trying to keep up with people, but it seems to get harder. Like others I scan when I get the time and I retired this year. Go figure.
Hugs to all healing! -
Went to my PS this morning and got 3 out of 4 drains removed and the pain med tube also ! It feels amazing not to work with all those drains etc.
Also I got to meet Gini23 !! It was so funny to hear someone say faith ..faith as your walking away. Since my actual name is Trish it took me a secondbut boy what a nice surprise that was. Unfortunately I was feeling terribly dizzy so we could only chat for a short time. I came home had some lunch and took a long nap so Im feeling much better.
Nihahi and MartyJ Im thinking of you ladies your going to do great. -
I am not sure if I like the new girls....there i said it. I just had stage 2 diep last wed. My doc at prma says any other revisions wont be covered by insurance. And frankly I amnot sure I want to go through sx again. I hate wearing this comoression garmet. They did the lipo from my thighs. Not any more donar sites I am pretty sure.
I need to ease up on myself. And just get over it. The scars will fade. My new boobs are perky. Cant even hokd pencil under them.
Maybe its time to order a marena garmet. Went out and did some retail therapy today. -
Just got the best news ever!! My PS is out of network for us and he's been trying to negotiate a contract with my insurance company (united healthcare), but hasn't been able to come to an agreement. I was going to have to pay 40%!! I just got a call from his office saying that he will not charge me for out of network for this surgeries or any other surgery he has to do after this one concerning my reconstraction! Omg! This is such a lift from my shoulders! We already have to pay $9,000 out of pocket because our insurance is horrible, so I'm glad he's being so kind. There are still some nice people out in this world! I just thought I would share with you in case anyone is having problems with their insurance and surgery. Try to work things out with your surgeon. You just never know!
-
Fredntan....I'm sure we all will have those thoughts at times...hope things come around for you.
Cuetang and Kuka....awesome news....so glad for you both.
I am so grateful for all the thoughts and good wishes. It has such meaning and strength, coming from you all.
I went for my last (for awhile) really long walk this morning. Before it started to snow (yes.....snow) I looked up and realized there was a bald eagle circling overhead. This brought tears to my eyes, as eagles seem to touch me in a very special way. I wanted to share a photo I took last summer with you all.
TOWANDA!!!!!!!!
-
TOWANDA!!! Am dealing with unplanned family issues today, but HAD to jump on and say "Keep Calm and Carry On" to Nihahi and Marty.......here's to uneventful (and short) surgeries! Thinking of you both today, and in your pockets tomorrow......
You go, girls!
Namaste and God Bless - Jackie

Nihahi, (((((BIG HUGS!!))))) To the alien: be afraid, be very afraid . . . The eagle photo is beautiful. We have them here too, and it's always a happening when one flies by, or comes to sit in a tree near the house - so majestic! We whip out the binoculars, and watch till it flies away. You're right, there is something very special about these birds. Best wishes for tomorrow - will be in your pocket.
-
P.S.: Nihahi-that photo is a stunner! Beautiful!
(((Hugs)))
-
Oh, Fran...please be easy on yourself, and be patient. I know what a hard road it's been for you. Right now you're probably swollen, in pain, exhausted, and overwhelmed. Give it time. Take a nap and a pain pill.
-
sigh......can I claim anesthesia brain yet.....hi to Cuetang, but I really meant to say awesome news to Faith..Ok , over and out!!!!!
-
Nihahi...thanks for the photo! If eagles could talk, this one would be screeching TOWANDA!
By the way...#3 on the trail yesterday...he was only about nine inches long and very cute.
-
sbelizabeth.......PLEASE don't post photos of your "legless ones". My laptop would go flying off the balcony, and we live on the third floor. OK......really got to do some other stuff. (((((X)))))
-
Nihahi all the best to you!! The eagle is a good sign. big hugs. Janet good for you , let us know when your date is set.
-
I am scheduled for DIEP in June but I have been bad. I am sooooo damn stressed that I am smoking American Spirit cigs at night. Any smokers have DIEP?
-
twirlygirlmuse -
I know you are stressed out and read some of your other posts - but if you are serious about having the DIEP you need to stop smoking!
There is a thread on here about smoking cessation somewhere - someone will probably find a link and post it for you.
The smoking will work against you, your reconstruction, and your body's ability to heal properly. Depending on how much you've been smoking between your surgery last year and now - you may want to delay your reconstruction further so that your body will be able to be in better condition for the reconstruction.
So sorry you were hit with this.
-
That is awesome news Kuka21!
I am feeling better. I just have to get out of this recovery phase and get back to all that shit I do to make sure this shit doesnt return. Sx makes this warrior weak.
And compression garmets. Grrrrrr -
Nihahi, it's a deal. No reptile photos. But all baby animals are cute, including legless reptiles with a little bitty buzzy button on the end! This little guy headed for the hills as soon as he saw us.
Sleep well tonight, my friend. New girls tomorrow!
-
twirlygirlm I know , i know. those were my favourite cigs!! When I met my PS for the first time she said that if I was smoking she would not do the surgery. I quit that day, dec 20th and my surgery was feb 28 . Every once in a while I miss that cig but most of the time I don't . I still can't hang out with my smoking friends and will have to battle it for a while yet but even though I only gave myself 2 months before surgery I have healed very well. If I was smoking though I don't think it would have been such a easy recovery. If I could do it a long term smoker you can do it!!
-
Go, Martyj and Nihahi, go!! We will all be there with you every step of the way. You both sound great - ready, calm, wise and wonderful as ever. Float on through it! We are cheering you on.
-
So fun to meet "Faith" and her husband today! I was keeping an eye out for a 5 ft redhead....! And you were totally doing what I have come to lovingly call the "DIEP Shuffle" - a little bent over, shuffling along. You almost don't realize when you stop doing it, but soon enough, you will! I am glad you are feeling better tonight.
We got back so late from Boston between PS running late (really never experienced that with him), stopping for lunch, and traffic, that I missed my afternoon nap... can't believe I am still up, truthfully. But had to read a bit to see what was going on here today.
Janet - good for you for being adamant! Glad it was all clear, you gave me a flashback... not a pleasant one.... Fredntan - hang in there. Nihahi - stunning photo, sweet dreams tomorrow, and to Marty, too! Kuka - so happy for you!! There are wonderful people in the world.Jeannie
-
nihahi - i'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Best of luck.
My surgery date is finally approaching and becoming real. I sure hope recovery is fast. I'm still not sure how I'm going to tell my supervisor I'm taking off work, again, for surgery. (Hidden issues here) I also don't know what to tell them about how long.
Really, I work in an office. No lifting at all. Plenty of support. Can work as few or as many hours as I choose. I'm thinking 4 wks, then return limiting my hours depending on how I feel.
Thoughts?
-
Jeannie - You sound like you're doing well. Excellent.
Regarding what you said about wonderful people in the world, I wanted to share something. After camping out at my surgeon's office , he gave me a referral for a 'mammo' ASAP. I went down the hall to book the mammo and the 12-yr-old girl behind desk said she could get me in June 18th. I don't know what kind of expression was on my face, but the women behind me put her hand on my shoulder on said, 'My appointment is in ten minutes, you can have it. I'll come back another time'.
Women rock.

Great story JanetM! Women do rock!
